I've been working on this off and on for about two weeks - haven't been feeling artsy lately, but wanted to make my favorite Pathfinder NPC.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
It's been a while since I've made an Oots avatar.... My GM commissioned me for our current gaming group, though, so that we can have some fun little buttons to stick on our dice bags. Eventually, we'll be going back through and nabbing old characters, but for now it's our current Seventh Sea campaign. I just finished the first character's design and thought I'd share.
Well, at least I was, until I saw the work above and thought what the point of even trying was, so I went home instead.
Spoiler: I kid, I kid
Edit: I forgot that exporting in Inkscape doesn't make a small image if your drawing is small when you export it at 400 dpi. WhoopsLast edited by bryn0528; 2015-09-30 at 02:38 AM.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Ah, that fresh new avatar smell. With me coming back to the forums I thought it might be fun to try my hand at making an OOTS avatar to replace my old ponytar. This is the first time I've tried to make an OOTS style avatar and I think it worked rather well (I'm happy with the end result at the very least)

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
You've done quite a good job for your first avatar. There are a few changes that might help, though. For example, always remember to give the legs a little bit of bend. That makes them look so much less static. Generally, OOTS male eyes are two thirds of the way up, whereas female eyes are halfway down. Here I'd raise the mask or so up a little, I think that might help it look more like the comic's style.
The other thing is mouths. They're really really annoying for me too. I quite often do mine while looking at a page of OOTS. I can't quite put my finger on what it is with yours.. Maybe that it's pointing one way vey obviously, but you drew the mask so it's looking like the fellow is staring at the camera? Not sure.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
The leg bend's a good idea, I'll do that with future avatars. The eyes of the mask seem to be at about 2/3'rds height to me, not too sure though. And well, mouths man, mouths. The character was supposed to be looking at the skull, but I realized this only after I finished the mask, after which I was like: boop it, finished it, I'm done.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Hi all! This is my first attempt at creating some OotS style avatar...I would have liked it to become my avatar but, when uploading it, it is just too small or too big...some help maybe?
EDIT - yoink, resolved, I just mistyped the pixels size - obviously! Fingers added during editing and also added a cape because "why not?"! :PLast edited by CinuzIta; 2015-11-04 at 05:52 AM.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Makeded myself an avatar with Inkscape. I've become somewhat rusty with it, bleh. I would've done it with traditional tools, but I haven't really had the inspiration to work with pens lately... Mostly due to lack of nice paper.
Here's the bigger version sans sparkles/snowfall (only added them to the 120x120 avvie).
Spoiler: here be picture
Originally I was supposed to make the circle white inside, but Inkscape went absolutely bonkers on me and I just simply couldn't be bothered anymore with its quirks...Originally Posted by LaZodiac

Direct conversion of existing D&D illustrations into OOTS style is one of the things that I've always wished I had the time to try experimenting with.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Geeze, it's been a while, huh? Well, I was doodling today and for the first time in a long time it wasn't in Steven Universe style, but OotS Style.
Oh, and I drew this a while ago.
I meant to draw Steven too... but I never got around to it.
I hate how Garnet turned out, but I just gave up after redrawing her like... 6-7 times.Last edited by asdflove; 2016-01-17 at 06:08 PM.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
There aren't any real glaring problems with it. At this size, the overlap of lines among her right arm, wings, right weapon, and tail is a bit noticeable, but I'm not sure how serious that is.
Any specific feedback you're looking for? Is it meant as an avatar, standalone art, for a game, for a comic? That can make a difference.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
I just made it to replace my avatar.
Does the overlap look too messy?
And also, I think the horns look a little awkward, do you know how I could make it look like they're coming out of the hair better?
And also do the wings look alright? I was thinking they look like they're pointing to the side too much, but I don't know how to fix that...Last edited by the_fennecfox; 2016-01-23 at 12:18 PM.

Re: OotS Style Art/Fanart Showcase VI
Try the following: thicken the lines, redraw a completely new wing and then replace the hind wing with it, that being at a different angle rather than two boring copies, thicken the lines around the eyes, make the arms longer, round all corners, round all ends, and put the second horn at a bit more of an angle and behind the rest of the head.
The general shape and body isn't bad at all, the main problem right now is just that the horns, wings, and weapons are obviously just copied and pasted right next to each other and don't look interesting.
to make the wings point less to the side? perspective is key
so take a sheet of paper. hold it up flat, so the big side is facing you. now slowly turn it so you can only see the edge. that's basically what you want your wings to do. don't be afraid to look up what those wings look like in real life (google bats), and draw them at the right point between when the paper is facing you (the wings are sideways) and when you can't really see most of it (the wings are pointing away from you)
