The next ingredient as been chosen, and it's one that has been requested in multiple rounds.

Hope that narrows it down for y'all.

Congratulations to the winners :) another round in which the third place sneaks out of my grasp maybe I should rename myself thefourth.
Congrats to the judges too for their hard work. And now that this is over relydtan ignoring my second disputes made me an extremely sad panda.

Yes, newbies are allowed to enter. The new one will be posted up soon. I'd recommend reading all of the entry post, as well as making sure you don't miss any prerequisites. I entered, and did pretty well for my first try. (I consider 8th good.)

Anyone can enter; one round we even had a "Ghost in the Playground" (lurker with a post count of zero when the build was submitted via PM) enter.

I'm honored to win against that crop of builds, really.

I'm quite surprised that my builds came out as well as they did: i found the background more interesting than the actual crunch and struggled to get it to flow: Leilani doing better than the Damned, I was highly surprised at; I started formatting around 1h30 before competition close.

Big congrats to thethird for doing well; i knew it would beat my Crab entry when i saw it, well deserved.

And to our winnners and HM as well. Hard fought round indeed. Whambamsam, you're one to watch out for; after the Zinc Saucier and this round? Well done guys!

I'd also like to echo the Sentiments regarding judgings: turning up to play a football game having prepared for a Rugby game isn't much fun. While the competition and judging do thrive on being subjective and opinions differing, i really don't think a judge will do themselves a favour by being so out of the leftfield with regarding to their judging system. There is a reason that the system that has been in place for the majority of the competition has, well, been in place for the majority of the Competition, and that is because it works. Big changes such as arbitrary number attributing wothout an explanation simply increases your workload (or if you cannot be bothered) makes everyone feel annoyed.

It is a past time that we do for pleasure, and shouldn't be getting annoyed at. For the sake of a judge having an ego trip or whatever, I do not wish to stop entering, so for that, judges and competitors (especially regarding the issue in the last competition), for the sake of letting this bit of fun continue for all, please conform to its spirit, and unspoken 'rules' that have made it into the success that has let it run for the past 50+ competitions.

As much as I'd like to stick a fork in this round and be done with it, can someone double-check my math? My spreadsheet lists a total of 39 for Shane, while my earlier charts and the Chairman's chart lists 39.5. Can someone help me identify where I've missed .5? All the disputes and amended scores have my head spinning . Here's what I think I'm looking at:

    Shane:
    relytdan: 12.75
    • Originality: 3
    • Power: 3
    • Elegance: 3.25
    • UoSI: 3.5

    OMG: 14.5
    • Originality: 3
    • Power: 3.5
    • Elegance: 4.5
    • UoSI: 3.5
    Korahir: 11.75
    • Originality: 3.25
    • Power: 3
    • Elegance: 4
    • UoSI: 1.5

    What am I missing?

From what I can see, an earlier post had Relytdan giving shane a 13.25. I'm still looking to see if this is the same or if it got dropped.

    Edit: I see this:
Shane MacLaughlan: Total Elegance deductions show -1.75, but tally is -1.25. Total score seems to be based off -1.25 and thus remains unchanged.

And never a response to it. I am assuming it got missed. However, considering he was pulling rules interpretations alot, that's what I'd pull to clear up the chart and give him a 39.5

Hooray! I finally placed in an Iron Chef! There were some really good builds this round too.

    Thank you to the judges!

And as for the name, MDCCCLXXXVI is 1886 in Roman numerals which is the year that dysprosium was discovered.

Thanks! It was a very pleasant surprise to see Driscoll do so well. I honestly thought Baffling Defense/Sworn Foe and Fallen Paladins would both be a lot more common than they were. I was really happy with the Serenity trick though.

Congrats to all the other chefs as well, especially Amph, dysprosium, and Deadline.

I actually considered a Crusader 6 into Corrupt Avenger/Jade Phoenix Mage build myself, but kept wanting more and more JPM until I only had 5 levels of Corrupt Avenger. Then I started trying to stack more negative levels on top of the Quickened Empowered Enervations, and ended up with a Lightkeeper Dragonwrought Desert Kobold (so I could get a small Turn pool for Death Devotion). So yeah, cheesy, not using much of the SI, ultimately not that original, and probably not that powerful.

The fluff would have been a perpetually reincarnating champion of Kurtulmak who lives lifetime after lifetime in a sort of parallel to the story of his deity. (Leads tribe of kobolds. Gnomes cause destruction of said tribe. Kurtulmak descends to him and offers him the choice to leave the Material Plane forever to join his brethren in Kurtulmak's domain or rise again to suffer through another lifetime blessed and cursed by the power of taint in to seek vengeance upon the gnomes, and time and again, he chooses the latter).

I didn't have time for more than Driscoll though, and even had to leave his fluff a little sparse.

Not only did I love Driscoll's mechanical tricks, but the story of that kobold sounds like a goldmine of material!

Wait, Bug isn't last? Something must be off. It was last minute idea which sounded like fun, but I wasn't hoping to actualy to do so well. This was hard round for me, so congratulations to all who submited builds.

Also, I tip my hat to thethird. I really liked your build and already used it as NPC in my OA campaign. For me it was clear winner from the first start, the story and build was just great.

Good luck to all in next round.

My other entry idea involved Jaunter. As a 4 level PrC, it seemed a natural fit for finishing an Iron Chef ingredient that required BAB +6.

I'm amazed by how well Brooswayn did. At the reveal, when I saw 3 Hellreavers (which I counted on to boost my originality) and 3 Demoralizers, I kind of dropped any hopes. Then the scores came in.

To be honest, the Batman idea only came after the speculation, and I thought it made more and more sense. From then on, it wrote itself. I never thought it would be so popular. Thank you for the praise, I'll try to entertain you as much next time!

Congrats to Amphetryon, Whambamsam, and dysprosium! I also want to complement Vaz and thethird on their L5R themed entries. I'm a huge fan of the setting, and was happy to see some entries that used it.

Also, wow, I did way better than I was expecting! Thanks to the judges! I wanted to clarify why I argued what I did to you relytdan. This may surprise you, but I don't object to the overall score you gave Magralyx, just with where you placed the deductions. You essentially acknowledged that the build was legal, but then appeared to score it as illegal according to your table rules. If your heavy penalty had been placed in Elegance rather than UotSI, I would have had much fewer complaints about it. At any rate, I think you did a pretty good job for your first time judging, and am pleased to hear that when you choose to judge again, you are going to work on providing more commentary and explanation. Heck, even though I like the scoring rubric that PONIES uses, I always find myself a little disappointed that he doesn't include more commentary. That said, judging is hard and very time consuming, so I try not to push the issue as long as the basics are there, and I can work out how the score for each category came to be.

Thanks again for all the hard work on the part of the judges!

I am thoroughly pleased with how Angelique ranked, though she might have been a bit higher if I had triple checked my work. I had a blast and am looking forward to participating again in the future. Next time, even more fluff! Its one of my favorite parts.
