    Default Sharn Sandbox OOC

Oh look, a thread! This will be the combined OOC thread for both groups 1 and 2. Go ahead and post your character sheet/background and choose your text color!

I will be going with dark slate blue for Erika and navy for NPC dialogue.

    EDIT 1:
    Group 1 IC
    Group 2 IC

    EDIT 2:
    Erika ir'Altan
    Background:
    Spoiler
    Show
Erika was raised to understand one thing: her home was unlawfully occupied by agents of pure evil. The scion of a family raised to nobility not by blood but by generations of service to the Thranish Crown, Erika's family has plotted the overthrow of the Church of the Silver Flame for decades. Every clerical excess, every secretly-corrupt priest, every so-called-holy atrocity stokes the fire of hate just a little more.

She doesn't look dangerous at all, of course. All one would see at first glance is the designer glamerweave and parade armor. Then, she draws her katana (a family relic, supposedly) and lunges across the battlefield to eviscerate her target. When the blade returns to its sheath, an especially-observant individual might notice there's not a single drop of blade staining it.

Technically assigned to the Thrane Embassy in Sharn as a diplomatic bodyguard she rarely stays at her quarters there, preferring her rented luxury apartment in Platinate. She acts as a sellsword and mercenary duelist for various wealthy clients to hone her skills, always careful for an opportunity to strike at the Silver Flame.

Erika is flawlessly polite but rather impersonal, the product of a lifetime spent masking her true agenda. She's rather fond of Sharn and Morgrave University in particular, considering herself a bit of an amateur scholar. The looted relics don't hurt either; restoring the glory of Thrane is the most noble goal and she won't let petty things like laws stand in her way.

    Juldun Narathun
Male Dwarf Cleric of the Sovereign Host
    Speech Color: Blue

    Spoiler: Background, etc.
    Show
    Spoiler: Background
    Show
Juldun Narathun is perhaps one of the least zealous religious extremists you are likely to meet. This is not due to any lack of faith – the gods of the Sovereign Host are real, and Juldun has no doubt about it. Rather, Juldun recognizes that the world is a nuanced place, and that “as is the world, so are the gods.” His particular brand of religious radicalism is born of his observations of the world.

He watched the events of the Last War from the relative neutrality of the Mror Holds, and the War showed him that the Dark Six has no monopoly on the dangers of excess: Onatar's gift of inspiration was used to build engines of slaughter, Dol Dorn's protection of warriors was exploited and channeled into vicious nationalism, and the arcane magics ruled by Aureon came to be increasingly indistinguishable from those drawing upon his Shadow (exemplified in the Day of Mourning). Closest to home, the focus of the Mror dwarves upon Kol Korran's domain (wealth) overwhelmed their responsibilities to Boldrei (community) and Dol Arrah (honor) more than they ever had before.

None of the above, however, should be construed to mean that he does not honor those gods: nothing could be farther from the truth. Rather, Juldun's insights into the dangers of obsession with any one form of power have led him into the theological camp of the Sovereign Speakers, who make a deliberate effort to worship the pantheon as a whole.

After the Day of Mourning, Juldun took advantage of the decrease in warfare to travel to Breland, where he volunteered to help out his clan's debtors—the refugees of Cyre—without asking any recompense. He spent a good amount of time assisting with the planting of crops, and thus has a closer relationship to Arawai than do most dwarves of the Mror Holds.

After spending a couple of years in New Cyre, Juldun felt that the Cyran refugees were capable of taking care of themselves and decided to move on. He had already learned enough about Breland to conclude that Sharn was one of the greatest epicenters of societal imbalance in Khorvaire. Paradoxically, he decided to move there to observe its depravity for himself. He took up residence in the dwarven neighborhood of Highhold, in Upper Dura. He serves as a priest at the temple in Highhold, but has found that the pace of life in Sharn is very different from what he is used to, and has been looking for a way to more actively influence the world around him.

Spoiler: Juldun's History with the Aurum
    Show
In the early 990s, Juldun began to elaborate on his theories about what was wrong with Mror society to friend and acquaintance alike, focusing especially on the problem of excessive greed. Since all of his friends made their livings supporting Mror mercantilism in one way or another, his ideas were not very popular.

Juldun was a student of history, and the first people to shun his company were historians—especially those who belonged to an organization (known as the Aurum) that coordinated expensive research expeditions. Then, his advancement within Narathunhold's seminary of the Sovereign Host seemed to grind to a halt...no teacher would accept him as a student. Finally, his immediate family and remaining friends began being passed over for all sorts of business contracts. Juldun got the message, and left the Mror Holds at the first opportunity.

In the Mror Holds, most people "benefit" from commerce, even if they don't have the best job. In Sharn, Juldun sees entire neighborhoods condemned to misery for the sake of profit. He sees both the City Council and the Sharn Watch pander to the interests of the rich, and opponents of wealthy businessmen dealt with in ways similar to his own exclusion from the Mror Holds (though with considerably more violence involved, this being Sharn). In part, Juldun knows that this is just the way of the world, but there seem to be certain reoccurring details in some of the worst cases...
    Spoiler: Interfaith Relations
    Show
Juldun has watched the Church of the Silver Flame throw itself into one excess after another over the last several decades. He has heard the theories about the demon inside the Flame whispering its malicious counsel...whether it is true or not, both the corruption and narrow-mindedness of the Church are of great concern to Juldun.

Juldun is respectful of the druidic sects, and unlike some Vassal theologians, sees no need to force their beliefs into the framework of the Sovereign Host. To do so, after all, would be as misguided as certain Silver Flame adherents' claims that the Sovereign Host is irrelevant. As he learns more about the druids, he finds himself feeling more and more affinity with their philosophy.

Having seen the darker aspects intrinsic to the Host itself, Juldun understands why some people and cultures are drawn to the Dark Six: they honestly reflect real forces within the world. He fears, however, that the volatility of those deities actively encourages dangerous behavior among their followers. Juldun sees nothing but hubris in the Blood of Vol and utter corruption in the various cults devoted to aberrations or fiends.
    Spoiler: Personality
    Show
Juldun was raised to value aggression and martial pride, but he has tempered those Mror traits with a good deal of humility and open-mindedness. He still holds honor to be one of the most important virtues, however, and encourages personal integrity as an antidote to the poisons of the Last War. He dislikes preaching, but is always happy to engage in a conversation about theology.

Juldun sees that Sharn is as much of a snakepit as the Mror Holds (if not moreso), and that the ability of the City Watch to keep order is tenuous at best. Therefore, he is a strong advocate of communities being able to defend themselves, and always keeps his weapons and armor at the ready.

Juldun has not left his Clan's prejudices behind entirely. He still sees the Droranath as dishonorable barbarians, and he is incredulous of Toldorath and Tordannon's proposal to grant the Jhorash'tar orcs the status of a clan of the Mror Holds.
    Spoiler: Appearance
    Show
In contrast to the finery that the dwarves of the Mror Holds prefer, Juldun wears either a plain traveler's outfit or his blue-and-yellow ceremonial robes, though he actually prefers the traveler's outfit (Sovereign Speaker theology is not opposed to the trappings of faith, but certainly doesn't emphasize it).

Also in contrast to Mror fashion, he leaves his beard untrimmed and unbraided. His armor, shield and morningstar all bear the mark of the finest Narathunhold forges, but are otherwised unadorned. Juldun's choices with regards to his personal appearance lead to no small number of Mror dwarves looking at him contemptuously, but he shrugs off the disdain without any worry.

    Jepetta Rainyday
Female Elf Warblade, Unwilling Guest of the Silver Flame
    Speech Color: Dark Green

    Spoiler: Background and Fluff
    Show
    Spoiler: Background
    Show
Jepetta Rainyday was once a carefree elf, back before the first time she died. Back in the days of the Last War, Jepetta's home was razed by Karrnath, her people subjugated, and her own life taken to feed their war machine. She was quickly raised again as a foul Wight, but something, which to even this day she doesn't quite understand, let her keep her freedom. Perhaps her creators had displeased their gods, or perhaps it was a mere quirk of fate or freak accident of magic, but regardless of the cause, Jepetta was unbound by their attempts to control her. Filled with a cold sort of rage, she acted the moment she was able to stand, and in a moment of pure clarity she struck down the one who had recreated her and made her escape into the wilds.

For several weeks after her breakout, she would return to her village, where she would wait, patiently watching the occupying soldiers from the shadows, relying on the deathly silence her condition gave her to remain undetected until, finally, one or two of the living would leave the safety of the light, and she would give them the same swift death they had given her at the edge of her sword. Eventually, the occupying soldiers began to get a bit antsy, so they sent out a detachment to find and slay her. When they left, she snuck into the town hall and, bastard sword in hand, she slew the man in charge in single combat, the cold clarity that death gave her greatest weapon. From his personal effects, she looted a sturdy shield, and a bit more digging around the town hall led her to uncover the ancestral mythril armor of the village's founder, which she took for herself as she made her escape. When the soldiers returned from their fruitless search, they found their commander's corpse hanging from the front of the hall, his own blood used to spell out the name of his slayer. 'Dark Heroine Jepetta Rainyday'.

A short time after the Day of Mourning, Jepetta was discovered by a paladin of the Church of the Silver Flame, and he was quite surprised when, instead of attempting to hide away in the shadows, she stood to face him with her bastard sword in hand. They fought several times over the course of the ensuing weeks, the holy might of the paladin clashing with the martial prowess of the Warblade, and somehow, over the course of their battles, they picked up an unlikely rapport as nemeses. Again and again they clashed, and in time they learned each other's stories in between witty banter and murderous aggression. This might have continued for some time if not for a single moment when her concentration slipped. She failed to parry the paladin's blow, and as the silver flame burned bright, the unlife left her body, leaving a corpse once again. The Paladin was glad that he had ended a terror of the Last War, but he felt somehow dissatisfied by this resolution. That very night, he bought a ticket back to Flamekeep with her body in tow, and when he arrived he petitioned the Keeper of the Flame herself, Jaela Daran, for her resurrection in exchange for her skill at arms on behalf of the Silver Flame.

Unsurprisingly, his petition was not approved, at least not by the Keeper of the Flame. However, the Archeirophant of Sharn, Ythana Morr, heard about this and saw an opportunity, and so she sent a message to the paladin, offering to resurrect Jepetta instead in an act of 'piety' and 'redemption of a fallen heroic soul'. Jepetta's corpse was quickly brought to the Cathedral of the Cleansing Flame where, using the least of the magics of resurrection, Jepetta was brought back into the realm of the living once again, only to be shacked with a lifedebt to the church, the Archeirophant, and the paladin who had slain her in the first place. Though the sharp need for revenge was no longer filling her every thought, Jepetta still found herself wanting to follow the path of the Dark Heroine, as she had envisioned it when dead... with perhaps a few revisions to accompany the inevitable changes that occurred now that the energies of Dolurrh no longer poured through her. Since her resurrection, she has been living in an run of the mill apartment in the Sovereign Towers, acting as a off the books enforcer and assassin for the Archeirophant. She hates the work, finding it dishonorable and inglorious, but she can't find it in herself to forget the life-debt she owes the Silver Flame, and until she does enough to consider the debt repaid, with the Silver Flame she will stand.
    Spoiler: Personality
    Show
Jepetta Rainyday is a showboat, first and foremost. She is excellent with her weapons, and the cold clarity of the dead never quite left her, giving her the certain mental acuity needed to be an excellent practitioner of the Diamond Mind. But even more then that, she is a woman with a dream, and will gladly chase it to the ends of the earth if need be to achieve it. She imagines a future where her name is known throughout all of Eberron as a true Dark Heroine to be feared by all, her blade cutting apart monster and man alike, her name whispered only faintly lest you summon her when her prowess isn't needed. She's a long way away from that goal though, and who knows what sort of trials and temptations might lead her astray?
    Spoiler: Appearance
    Show
Jepetta Rainyday, though alive again for several months now, still is nearly as pale as death. Her hair looks roughly cut to be neck length, and her green eyes still have a little bit of sickly yellow to them.

She often wears a gleaming white chain shirt over a green vest and a brown shirt and explorer's heavy skirt and boots, but is also fond of the bright and conspicuous clothing of an entertainer when she is attempting to make a special impression, and though she wouldn't be caught dead in it most of the time, the Church of the Silver Flame provided her with a simple and flexible monk's outfit as well.

Varosh: Human Rogue; Assassin and thief for House Tarkanan. I shall use dark red for Varosh and associated npcs.
Edit: I have now decided that Varosh lives in the Grayflood district of Cliffside and have listed it on my sheet.
    Back-story
    Spoiler
    Show
Varosh was born and raised as a perfectly average street urchin in lower city streets of Sharn. He got by thieving and begging so that his parents could feed themselves on the meager salaries of dock workers. His life took an interesting change when, at the age of 18, he developed a Dragonmark on the back of his left hand. Varosh had heard of the Dragonmarks, but did not know much other than that they run Ebberon's economy. He decided that it would be a good idea to get it examined so that maybe he could get a job and bring his parents out of the slums. When he finally found an expert in Dragonmarks, he was in for a surprise. The expert studied the mark and found that it did not belong to any of the Dragonmarked houses. He promptly decided that Varosh needed to be killed, as to not spread the corrupted mark. Luckily Varosh was quick enough to escape as the expert reached for his dagger. Until then, Varosh had been moderately optimistic. This marked a change in him, and he began to see the world in a new light. His eyes were opened to reality.
After a week of trying to hide his mark, he was found. The Dragonmark expert had hired some thugs to find him. When they caught him they jumped on him and began beating him with clubs. Varosh was suddenly surrounded with an invisible field that repelled their blows. As this happened, someone else was watching. With this new force, Varosh was able to escape from the gripping hands of the thugs, and he began to push his way out of the group. As he escaped, he started hearing sounds of slicing, and the thugs began to scream. Varosh looked back over his shoulder long enough to see a shadowy figure standing over mutilated corpses.
The next day, as he was eating an apple for breakfast, Varosh heard a knock at the door. His mother answered the door and was surprised to find someone asking for Varosh. He went to see a woman in a billowing cloak and dark leather armor. The woman told him that she could bring him to a place that would help him develop his talents. She promised that he would be able to make enough gold to buy his family out of poverty. Varosh was ecstatic that someone actually wanted to help him. He graciously accepted the offer.
The woman introduced herself as Arana, and told him that she is a member of House Tarkanan. She then told him that House Tarkanan takes in those with Aberrant Dragonmarks and gives them a family that accepts them.
Varosh trained for several years before becoming a full member of House Tarkanan. Since then he has been completing theivery and assassination missions for them, and has become a valuable member. House Tarkanan is detailed on page 154 of Sharn:city of towers.

    Personality
    Spoiler
    Show
Varosh is pessimistic and cynical from his exposure to the corrupt nobility and guard-force of Sharn. He is usually apathetic toward his victims. He is surprised when he finds someone who would not sell their friends and beliefs for gold. On the flip side, Varosh is very loyal to his friends and family. He is prone to overreaction if someone threatens or insults those he cares about.

    Friends and Enemies
    Spoiler
    Show
Arana is the assassin who brought him in. She is getting old, and does not often go out on missions, but she has an extensive network of informants. Vera is an assassin that trained and advanced with Varosh. Varosh and Vera have developed a romantic relationship over the years of working together. Garren is an officer of the Sharn city watch that has stumbled onto Varosh's trail. Varosh does not know that Garren is after him. Jorad is a wizard that Varosh has stolen from. Jarod wants his wand back, and may attempt to use Vorash to lead him to whoever requested the wand.

    Goals for my Character
    Spoiler
    Show
I know the stereotype of the evil rogue that steals from and attacks other PCs, and I mean to avert it. I would like for Varosh to get to exact some good ole fashioned street justice on some of the corrupt nobility and business men who run Sharn. Also, if you see it fit, you could have an important target that changes the way Varosh views killing by showing him the consequences of his actions.

Leo, a Human Sorcerer/Warlock impersonating an elf ambassador from Aerenal, he's decided to call this character Lutharen Jonaelwel, or simply Luther, as most people decide to call him.

    Spoiler: Fluff
    Show
    Spoiler: Backstory
    Show
Growing up in the lower wards of Sharn, Leo didn't get much, not much love, not much food, not much at all, his parents, when they found out about his aberrant dragonmark when he was sixteen, being the law-abiding citizens that they strived to be, immedaitely reported him to the authorities, and left him for dead. Much good that did them. Along with his parents finding out that he had an aberrant dragonmark, Leo found out how to use it, and when someone came to investigate, Leo used it to charm the man in charge and used deceit to make them believe that his parents were the bad guys, and had them taken away. He does not know at this time where they were taken or what happened to them, and he does not care.

In the five years since this has happened, Leo found that not only did he have innate magical power combined with the durability one needs to survive in the lower wards of Sharn, he had innate power of a different kind as well. After going through several disguises, all as a human craftsmen of some kind or another, he found himself affluent enough to move up to the middle wards, and he tried a nonhuman disguise for the first time, going with a kalashtar first, then dwarf, elf, even shifter disguises he's done. But he hates it. As much as he hates authority without the power to back it up, he hates disguising himself as something he's not.

Eventually, he meets more and more people, in different disguises, and gets to know these people and finds out that the system of the dragonmarked house is innately flawed, it is hereditary. Even within a House, it is random who gets a dragonmark and who doesn't. It is then that he decides to try and start his own dragonmarked house, which he'll need a lot of influence, power, and wealth for. So, with a new disguise in tow, he sets out to do just that, disguised as an Elf Ambassador from Aerenal, with a larger large snake as his companion and familiar.

    Spoiler: Personality
    Show
Leo is a very pragmatic man, looking for anything that works to make it better himself, and himself alone. He has his goals and wants, but attempts to do those as inconspicuously as possible. As such, he seems very personable to anyone who doesn't know him, and he makes sure nobody really knows him.

In his current disguise as an Aerenal Elf, ambassador from his country, Leo proudly displays his proficiency with both the bow and the sword as trades learned from being an elf, not by obscure means. He also pretends not to know Common, so as to be able to spy on what anyone around him says thinking he's not listening. He employs a gnome of House Sivis with a dragonmark (comprehend languages) to act as translator.

    Spoiler: Contacts
    Show
The only two contacts that Leo has that are in any way longer-lasting than only a few days, are his familiar, the medium viper he calls 'Q', and the translator from house Sivis, who thinks he really is an elf from Aerenal and doesn't speak Common. Has been in Lutharen Jonaelwel's employ for almost a week.

The medium viper 'Q', full name Executioner, acts as Leo's eyes, ears, and secret weapon, and is either hidden among his robes, or out and about, hiding and never further than 30ft away from him.

    Spoiler: Appearance
    Show
Leo's normal appearance is inconspicuous and almost nondescript, save for his eyes. He has dark brown hair, bordering on black, and cuts it as his disguise requests, he has a normal physique, not especially muscular or weak, simply toned. But his eyes are bright, almost seem to shed light, and to anyone who closely inspects them look like glowing red orbs of eldritch energy, ranging from blood red to magenta, depending on his mood.

The current disguise he employs is of a lean, nonmuscular and almost weak-looking elf, thin like the deathless of the undying court he claims to hail from. His hair is lighter now, a regular brown, long past his shoulder, but completely straight, and completely cleanshaven, as all elves. In this persona, he walks slowly with a grace matched only by elves, but a determination to them that seems more like a dwarven trait. He carries himself with an air that befits Lutharen Jonaelwel; noble, haughty, but intrisically good and selfless in all that he does.

The dragonmark that Leo carries is visible reaching from the middle of his spine to the small of his back, and seems to glow in the exact same color as his eyes, shifting along with it. This mark is not visible if Leo is wearing any kind of non-white clothing (or white clothing with more than one layer).

    Spoiler: Goals
    Show
As this has recently changed several times, I'm posting the definite one here; He means to start his own dragonmarked house, which requires one of two things: The transformation of his aberrant dragonmark into a true one in any way probably not possible, though preferred by him. Or his dragonmark being dominantly hereditary, passing to a large amount of his offspring so that a family of dragonmarked people is created.
Either way, it will be extremely hard, and he means to glean all the information he can about dragonmarks, and despises the furtive nature of the quasi-dragonmarked house Tarkanan.

I've decided to go with the Medium Viper familiar, and have his goal be an almost impossible one, so that he'll be busy for quite a while attempting to complete it. I'll claim Indigo for Leo, though you'll never see this as the persona of Lutharen Jonaelwel has the color Dark Orange, and Q the snake has the color Bright Red, annotating <Telepathic Communication> like so.

Edit: changed Leo's speech color from dark red to indigo after I saw that dark red was taken.

Taren isn't quite what one would expect from a promising scion of House Orien. Adventurous and relatively laid-back, he's always good for a round or three at the local tavern. His childhood was spent in the Last War, but beneath the sheltering arms of Orien, so he sometimes finds it hard to believe the atrocities that people claimed happened during the war.

It was not long after his fifteenth nameday that he met his future mentor, Lady Tam d'Orien, already a Blade of Orien of same fame after singlehandedly warding off a raiding force from hobgoblins attacking an Orien Caravan bound for Argonth on a resupply run. She was the one who told him stories of the war, of various battles and all of the places that she'd seen, sparking a wanderlust in him. He spent the next several years on and off under her supervision, and his greatest moment was when his dragonmark manifested; the same mark as Lady Tam.

Eventually, he managed to escape Journey's End by pulling in a favor from one of the lightning rail operators, and hitched a ride to Sharn. Currently living in Terminus Station, the House Orien enclave, while he's in town. Looking for a more permanent housing for a few years as he explores the nooks and crannies of Sharn.

Looking to make a name for himself, he's liable to band together with any other like-minded character with a Zen for exploration and an urge to brighten someone's day/life.

    Spoiler: Basic Appearance
    Show
Tall and slim, much like the glaive he carries, Taren wears a long cloak over one shoulder, leaving his arms free for complex spear drills. If you look closely, you can see a few tendrils of blue-green creeping their way up past his collar - his dragonmark manifested near his left collarbone and extends from his neck to a few inches below his collarbone (at its present strength). He's got a tattoo of a unicorn racing on the inside of his right forearm, with three deep scars on the outside of the same arm.

Other than that, he tends to wear simple, but finely made, clothing in neutral tones, mainly greys, browns and deep greens. His weapon was purchased from an elven carpenter in the Eldeen Reaches, and is subtly carved with scenes of unicorns running through forest glades.
*Note: I envision his glaive as one of the spears from the elves in LotR - the curved blades atop a long shaft. Technically, they're naginata, but mechanically, that's identical to glaives.

    Spoiler: Basic Personality
    Show
Being raised by the House has made him think like a merchant at all times - Part of that is knowing that information is a universal currency, and to always pay attention to rumors. Laid-back and easy-going, he's always got a smile handy when needed. He tends to look at the positive side of things, but when battle closes in, he gets serious.

    Spoiler: Relationship with House Orien
    Show
Although Taren grew up in Journey's Home (the Main House Orien enclave in Passage), he's always considered himself to be of Orien rather than Aundairan. He worked closely with his mentor, Lady Tam d'Orien, for the past half dozen years after he manifested his dragonmark, and she's the main reason that he wants to become a Blade of Orien. They've settled into a comfortable aunt/nephew relationship over the years, despite the fact that only the House name relates them.

Since Lady Tam is a well-respected member of the elite forces of Orien, he's able to pull upon the recognition of her name to call in various favors as needed from House members (represented by his Favored in House feat). He works hard to fulfill the tasks that filter down to him from his superiors, in the hope that they'll give him the magical and martial training needed to become a Blade of Orien.

Being raised in Journey's Home, Taren's got a suprising amount of contacts among the who's who of House Orien. His most notable one, however, is the Lady Tam (a mid-level Blade of Orien) who is the niece (once removed) of the House Patriarch himself.

He's always respectful of members of the other 11 dragonmarked houses, and expects that courtesy to be extended to him as well. In general, he believes in treating others as he wishes to be treated. He hasn't had much exposure to the more... monstrous races, but he's always willing to give people a chance, regardless of their appearance.

Of course, being raised there also has it's disadvantages - he's prejudiced against anyone bearing an aberrant mark, especially members of House Tarkanan. He also tends to view political figures as less powerful than they are, believing that it's the economic powerhouses (eg. the Dragonmarked Houses) that are the movers and shakers of the world.

Spoiler: Character Goals/Out of Game Hopes
    Show
Taren really, really hopes to join the Blades of Orien. He finds that their worldview (itinerant wanderers) fits his lifestyle, and they're dedicated members of the House.

As for the crunch, I'm looking at entering Dragonmark Heir next level, then going straight into Blade of Orien. Also, permission to take Shorten Grip and/or Haft Strike from the Dragon Compendium as feats?

Ajar, the Grippli Fey Bard's sheet is here, sheet.

I'd have loved Sienna for Ajar as that's what I've managed to use for my other two characters but I guess I'll use Sienna and not be exactly as lazy as I'd prefer.

Green's more appropriate for a frog man anyway right?

You're in different groups, so it doesn't matter if you use the same color .

Yeah, I kind of figured I was free to take the bonus feat when I wrote the background, so I went with improved familiar, to get Q as my pal.

Likewise, I assumed I'd have one too for my backstory, and grabbed Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Bastard Sword, technically, but as a Warblade it can work with any weapon under the sun)

I'll have my post in the thread in about an hour or so, so you all can look forward to that.

Caritas! A pleasure to me you!

    Spoiler: Background
    Show
A young man from Adar. As a child he was in a terrible foundry accident, which destroyed his arms. His parents felt they could not meet the challenge of raising a crippled child, and left him at the from steps of a monastery of the Tashalatora monks. There he was given a new pairs of arms forged of steel. These new arms were strong, but clumsy. He trained patiently with the monks in order to acquire the grace and discipline required to handle them.

The life at the monastery eventually bored Caritas. There was not anything there he had left undone. Each new day became more repetitive than the last, and he decided he wished to break his routine. He left Adar, and traveled the world to find new joys.

Caritas is a serviceable melee. He'll get better as he levels. Flurry is like that.

I would like a chance to play this the mantles later, either through retraining or Reformation. I ended up with a bunch of boring, long term power. My staring feats are the same way.

Sorry if you had someone else in mind, Lowtide, but I couldn't pass up an opening like that. Especially not when I have Quick Draw and Combat Reflexes-equivalent abilities and your poor warblade is prone.

Oh, no don't worry about it, that was an open invitation for anyone. Jepetta would likely not do too well with a start like this, but I wasn't particularly looking to actually start a fight 1 post in anyways.

Still, I wouldn't completely count poor Jepetta out just yet. She's got good armor, and with Emerald Razor she can poke right through your own armor to even the playing field if it gets to that point. It'd be a bad start, but I'm not sure about the conclusion.

It was more of an opportunity for both of them to develop character than an actual invitation to fight . My last Shadowrun character (a SURGEd assassin with 12 Agility) ended-up getting in a fist fight with another PC (a blatant Dio Brando ripoff) that ended with them both getting choked into unconsciousness by a Force 12 Spirit of Air .

    Besides, you'd lose. I can auto-crit 4 times a day .

In case it wasn't clear, yes you can actually do shopping here. Everbright has a GP limit of 100,000 for magic items. Assume you can get anything that doesn't require custom ordering immediately, so basic +1 weapons and such are in but not +5 vorpal swordchucks or something .

The plot won't actually start until you finish-up any shopping you want to do.

No point in rolling Spot, no way Juldun will beat Ject's Sleight of Hand check.

Question: how closely do you want us to keep track of cost of living expenses such as meals and rent?

I assume the Temple that Juldun has started working at collects donations, and that some of those go to support the priesthood. I'm happy to have Juldun spend time helping at the Temple for some portion of every week. Would he receive any money for living expenses from the Temple?

Also, since the Temple is in Highhold, the donations are probably decent, perhaps even more than needed for the priesthood's cost of living. If there's any corruption going on, Juldun probably doesn't know about it yet (he's only been in Sharn for a month), but he'll definitely want to find out.

This is why you buy instead of rent. I included an apartment in the Cogs in my gear.

I'm just hanging out at the House Orien compound - figure that I ought to put my Favored in House feat to good use.

Only if you want it to be significant or unusual to or for your character. For instance, Erika spends a substantial amount of gold on luxuries. Her outfit alone costs over 500 gp, because she considers dressing and living in a way that reflects her nobility important. You also might want to keep track of only certain things, like if you're trying to impress someone by going to a restaurant well above your usual standards.

That reminds me! I forgot to roll the monthly cost of her Platinate apartment. It's an upscale residence so that comes to (2d8)[5] x 10 = 50 gp per month.

Juldun hasn't been in Sharn long enough to buy a place, I don't think. Where are the rules on buying/renting apartments?

I guess we could say that Juldun receives just enough from the Temple to cover average meals and clothes? He's definitely not one for luxury.

I'm pretty sure Ajar just sleeps in the saddle.

That and I picture him curled up in a hollow spot up under an eave or statuary in the Sharn-esque equivalent of a dark alley (basically an aerial dark alley) where only a creepy white frog would chillax.
And it's wet. Not aquatic but perpetually moist and dank. Which would be a bit of a feat for an elavated statuary-filled alleyway. Hmmm.

They're on p. 23 of Sharn: City of Towers. Basically, you choose category (poor, average, upscale) based on the district and roll for variance in the individual pricing. I would assume you could keep shopping around if you don't like the price .

    Average residence: (1d4)[2] x 10 = 20gp

That's doable. What's the in-game date? And when is rent due?
