Default The Academic Sorcerer (3.5, Sorcerer ACF)

    Spoiler
    Show
A fairly simple Alternative Class feature, something that's meant to make it easier for Sorcerers to get into some of the more knowledge focused prestige classes.

The basic balance here was bluff for decipher script, and weapon proficiencies in exchange for knowledges. Intelligence then replaces Charisma as a casting ability to prevent the need for multiple attribute focuses.

If this has been done before, uh, sorry!

    Academic Sorcerer

The Academic Sorcerer takes a page from the tendencies of wizards, giving up their martial and interpersonal experiences in exchange for a greater understanding of the world.

    Proficiencies

The Academic Sorcerer is only proficient with a club, dagger, heavy crossbow, light crossbow, and quarterstaff, instead of all simple weapons.

    Bonus Languages

An Academic Sorcerer may substitute Draconic for one of the bonus languages available to him because of his race.

    Skills

Remove Bluff from the Class skill list, and add Decipher Script.

In addition, add all Knowledge skills to their class skill list. The Academic Sorcerer gains 8 skill points at 1st level and 2 at each additional level that must be used towards Knowledge skills.

I would let the casting stat alone. Casting with Charisma is part of what makes a sorcerer a sorcerer. Basically what you are doing right now is more of a wizard ACF "Replace your spellbook and spellcasting progression for the Sorcerer spellcasting progression and spells known."

I kind of went back and forth on that. The thing is, if it's kept as Charisma, you have a marked disadvantage in Intelligence suddenly being important (For use with the Knowledges, and for the extra skill points needed to fill said knowledges) while needing Charisma for your magic and pretty much nothing else.

The point of it basically WAS to make a sorcerer that's more like a Wizard in everything but casting progression.

Just hand out a few extra skill points if that is the case, a sorcerer who casts using Int isn't a true sorcerer, but an spontaneous wizard and that doens't truly feel right. Or have the DC based on Int but keep minimums and bonus slots with Cha.

I have to agree with leaving the casting stat alone. If you want more skill points for Knowledge skills, do something like the following.

Academic (Ex): At 1st level, the Academic Sorcerer gains 8 additional skill points. At each level after first, he gains 2 additional skill points. Skill points earned from this ability can only be spent on ranks in Knowledge skills
