    I'm not sure if you're going with the heat thing for specific reasons, but might I refer you to the Entombed - a monster from Frostburn - that has an ability called Ice Glide. Its an (Ex) ability that lets it "swim" through ice and snow without leaving a tunnel or displacing the snow around it.
