Re: One Piece III: Cups!
To continue the discussion from the second thread.
Almost all the character design in One Piece is fairly exaggerated, Females have insane measurements, several male characters are insanely tall. Whitebeard stands out, as does Kumo and Magellan, Moria apparently had his Chin Surgically removed.

Re: One Piece III: Cups!
It would probably be shorter and easier to list significant characters that wouldn't stick out IRL for their appearances.
Even say Rayleigh aside from his serious muscle tone for his age has that strange beard thing going on.

Re: One Piece III: Cups!
Yeah, that's kinda a jerk move...
Lolth is so scary that even in TO, "having to be touched by Lolth" is recognized as a serious drawback for Lolth-touched.

Re: One Piece III: Cups!
Spoiler: Yes.Given that it happens in what... 574, and is the culmination of a story arc? Yes, yes it is.
Even though it's been gone for a while, I'd imagine that it's a big enough one to not want to ruin for any potential new readers who wanted to see what this "One Piece" thing is all about and stumbled across the thread.Last edited by Forrestfire; 2013-12-22 at 11:01 PM.

Eh, I knew about it before I started reading One Piece and it never bothered me much. Don't worry about it, jhunter.

In other news Snape killed Dumbledore, Aizen is the villain, Vader is Luke's father, and Rosebud was the sled.
Spoilers spoil, particularly round here. Ace isn't even one, its been years.Last edited by Soras Teva Gee; 2013-12-22 at 11:07 PM.

Re: One Piece III: Cups!
Trust me, when it's at the point where even people who aren't fans know about it it's no longer a secret to anybody. (I say this from personal experience)
Plus Ace's Big Brother role in the story almost invariably leads to tragedy for him in anime, it's practically a trope of the shonen sub-genre.

Re: One Piece III: Cups!
Someone I know who does a manga podcast got into major **** for putting "Tobi is Obito" as the title of the episode where it happened. Despite the fact that it was the single most obvious plot point in existence.
If he can get **** on by thousands for saying such an obvious thing is true, then bringing up the fact that Ace dies without putting up spoiler tags or the like would be like committing suicide. So a pretty bad idea.

Re: One Piece III: Cups!
While I agree we do handle spoilers very openly putting this as the second post is a bit of a... unnecessary risk? Nothing I would get angry about since it is pretty well known and stuff but... unnecessary, yeah.
That said, we should probably in the title or first post note the fact we will spoil EVERYTHING except the latest chapter when it just got out. Just for people who only read the English published manga or anything...

Re: One Piece III: Cups!
Viz's translation of Oda's ToC comment for issue #4/5:
"The shogayaki (ginger pork) boom is here! Let's have it with cabbage and mayonnaise! Happy New Year!"
That's.... that's not really a boom I can get behind. I haven't exactly been a fan of ginger, ever since I've accidentally bitten into solid chunks.
At least the google image search of shogayaki looks appealing.

Cross-posting this across the One Piece/Naruto/Bleach/General anime threads:
The 6 finalists for the Shounen Jump Manga Competition are up.
(Going to the English version link directly is buggy; so go to that link and just click on English in the upper right corner)
To recap, this was a competition held as part of WSJ's 45th anniversary, allowing entry from the whole world. More notably, the accepted languages for submission were Japanese, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), and English. Interesting to see what the editors thought were the best among the world's amateurs interested in shounen manga. Thanks to Meirnon for the avatar

Re: One Piece III: Cups!
I believe the Big Mam is a giant theory. Frankly I didn't even think it was a question when I saw how big she is, but this is One Piece.....
Still we have seen Jinbe as a Fishman in the Shichibukai so it only makes sense that there should be at least one giant in the big leagues. (No pun intended.)

Re: One Piece III: Cups!
Big Mum probably has a Devil Fruit similar to Sengoku's, one that allows her to grow in size dramatically.
"Don't think of it as dying," said Death,
"Just think of it as leaving early to avoid the rush."
