Default The quickest way for Haley's arm to mend?

So now the Order has all the healing potions that they want. I suspect that even an unlimited number won't help heal Haley's broken arm. Besides keeping it in a cast and not using it (which is mundane and boring), is the quickest (and cheapest) way for her arm to mend via a Heal spell?

She'd need some variant of Restoration.

Its going to conveniently heal on its own by the time they get to the northlands. Like the Machine, wounds likely heal at the speed of plot.

Regenerate should do the job, but Durkon didn't see Tarquin breaking Haley's arm, so he probably didn't prepare the spell. So if nothing else happens during this trip, then he will be able to prepare spells again.

The quickest way is to make her a vampire.
Because Haley being able to turn into a bat would be awesome.

It's an eight-day (minimum) trip--if he *doesn't* get a chance to prepare spells again then something has gone very horribly wrong!

Which is why normally those 8 days would pass by in 1 strip, but now they will have an encounter within 1 day. Heck, perhaps even within the next 10 minutes...

Weird how you can be stabbed, set on fire, arrow'd through the neck, and partially disintegrated only to be completely healed in one round by a cleric fresh out of college, but should you break an arm, lose a finger, or sprain an ankle, you need to find a level-14 cleric.

I'd say it would give some purpose to the Heal skill, but said skill doesn't actually make any of that better.

My version: Cure Light Wounds is actually Delay Light Wounds. If you live through the encounter, great; you now have 1d8 hours to get to a healer with actual medical qualifications before your neck spontaneously detaches.

It would certainly make her match up better with her nemeses: Sabine has bat-wings, and Crystal is dead.

And Tsukiko got bitten by some undead (ie eaten by her wights), so it all fits. [/tinfoil]

I figured that Durkon just heard Tarquin ranting about hand-chopping and decided it might be a good idea to be able to grow anything back that needed growing. If he keeps it in his daily selection, maybe he can use it on Redcloak without his permission and trick Xykon into the earlier threatened ocular/rectal juxtaposition. . .]:-)

Why wouldn't regeneration be one of Durkon's regularly prepared spells?

I'm actually curious, what other spells would he have at that level? It seems like a useful spell to keep around at all times.

Why? It takes 3 full rounds to cast, so it's not something you can cast in the middle of a battle, and once the battle is over there's plenty of time to rest and recover spells. As for what other spells he could use from that level:

Control Weather--we know he's used this at least once, so chances are it's one he keeps handy
    Destruction--useful save-or-die
Holy Word--again, one we've actually seen him use, although using it now would obviously be a bit of a problem
Summon Monster VII--always handy to have some backup in a battle

Vampires get a +8 racial bonus to Listen checks, and Durkon has a very high Wisdom score. That adds up to overhearing Tarquin's insane rants through the deck of the the airship.

Or someone popped below decks and told him Haley needed her arm fixed and he better prepare Regenerate along with Restoration.

If Durkon can hear things so distant, what to say about Belkar asking Roy on when they should destroy him? The first time I saw that scene, I suspected that he could hear them talking. But, well, that's subject to another thread, like the several ones about vampire Durkon that were opened since the last strip was published.

According to SRD it takes a cleric an hour to pray for spells, and while I don't know of any rules regarding being interrupted partway through, I'd imagine the worst that could possibly happen is having to start over again. Probably someone popped below deck to tell him that Haley broke her arm when he'd just got started.

The more pressing problem for a RAW standpoint is the eight hour rule. The one that states:

    Recent Casting Limit

As with arcane spells, at the time of preparation any spells cast within the previous 8 hours count against the number of spells that can be prepared.
Depending on just how many spells Durkon cast in the last 8 hours (which in turn probably depends on just how long Team OotS was trapped in the dreamscape), he might not have had many 4th or 7th level slots open.

Or The Giant is ignoring that rule. If so, I can't really see him being too bothered by someone sticking their head below deck and yelling to please add a Regenerate to the work order.

I guess even he heard it, he would understand. If it indeed is the old Durkon. However, may very well see him assassinate Belkar in the dead of night, as Belkar is the only threat to him right now.
