Ferrum, Cyborg Satyr WardenFerrum looks over the battlefield and seeing the Thin Man on its last leg, he decides on his next target. "Alright, my little passenger, lets go off some aliens. Hold On!" Ferrums brings his shield up in front of him, making sure to protect Waifera along the way. He moves through the battlefield and comes up right in front of the ugly thing. "Boy, you bastards sure are ugly.....let me help you with that!" Ferrum slices at the Thin Man with his sword hand, hoping to end the thing's life.

Re: X-COM: The Fourth Dimension IC (D&D 4E)
Ferrum's sword connects with the gaunt creature's neck, severing its head from the rest of its body. Before it can crumple to the ground, however, it instead explodes into a cloud of noxious vapors! The vapors roil over both the tiefling and warforged, and while she is not breathing currently the noxious fumes still sting her flesh, pushing Waifera to the edge of death. Ferrum, however, inhales a full dose of the floating toxins.
Spoiler: Thin Man 2's Death Attack
vs. Waifera
To-Hit: (1d20+7)[22]
Damage: (1d4+4)[6]
Hit: Target takes Ongoing 5 Poison (Save Ends, -2 Penalty) - Waifera's already has this, so she doesn't get it applied twice.
vs. Ferrum
To-Hit: (1d20+7)[22]
Damage: (1d4+4)[7]
Hit: Target takes Ongoing 5 Poison (Save Ends, -2 Penalty)
Effect: Create a 3x3 zone of poison vapors. The vapors block line of sight (but not line of effect), providing total concealment to anyone inside a square or behind it relative to people trying to look through it. Targets entering the zone or ending their turn inside of it gain Ongoing 5 Poison (auto-hits, Save Ends, -2 Penalty)
(Derp, it's an AoE. Ferrum and Waifera both takes 6 Poison damage, and now have Ongoing 5 Poison (Save Ends, -2 Penalty).Last edited by Inspectre; 2014-02-01 at 08:35 AM.

Cinder Ashborn, Pixie Harrier
Cinder watches Ferrum and Waifera get covered in the disgusting noxious cloud. She knows there is nothing she can do, and that does not make her happy. She aims a kick at the head of Akamenos, and says, "Hey, you, how'bout you earn your keep and get those two outa trouble?"
Without waiting for an answer, Cinder flies around the debris, spots a target at the far end of her range, likely outside everyone else's, and takes a potshot at it before moving behind cover.
In the distance, the crouching enemy manages a small shriek as the darts punch holes through its unprotected skin, before falling sideways and moving no more.

Re: X-COM: The Fourth Dimension IC (D&D 4E)
As the creature falls, a nearly invisible wave of force pulses out from it. This wave of energy rushes over to the other unarmored creature hiding around the side of the airship, and when the wave reaches it the creature falls to its knees. It clutches desperately at its head for a moment, and then its skull implodes, sending a geyser of black blood and gore shooting into the air around it before the creature collapses, twitching uncontrollably. It's uncertain what exactly just happened, but it seems that due to some sort of mental bond the two unarmored creatures both died together. That leaves just the one hiding all the way behind the Tailwind, which is already starting to shuffle back into the darkness, clearly intent on running the hell away.
(Note that even though all of the monsters will be dead soon, we will remain in combat until Waifera is out of danger or dead. Do note, however, that with the death of that last sectoid, you will all be out of combat despite still being in initiative order and thus can make DC 15 Heal checks as a Standard action to grant Waifera a healing surge.)Last edited by Inspectre; 2014-02-01 at 12:35 PM.

Groaning as his legs continue to torment him, Kaeravak scrabbles around the group's cover, fire gathering in his palms to preface another explosive charge hurtling towards the lone remaining foe.
With by now predictable lethality, the tiefling's projectile fully immolates its target, devouring flames scarcely giving the poor creature time to flail about before it collapses into an ashen, motionless heap.

Re: X-COM: The Fourth Dimension IC (D&D 4E)
Spoiler: Waifera's Saves
End of Turn Save: (1d20-2)[17]
Save Granted by Khitan (if Needed): (1d20-2)[15]
(We'll have Khitan's Heal check go towards letting Waifera spend a healing surge instead, since it's the same DC and we're out of combat. She does fail one saving throw since Khitan and everyone else had already gone, however. She's now at 6 HP and stable. Another DC 15 Heal check will let her use another healing surge, or you can use Healer's Mercy to get her up to 13 HP (her "maximum" value since 13 HP = Bloodied for her). Ferrum is still taking the Ongoing 5 Damage, however, so he should make some saves to determine how much damage he takes before the effect ends - saves, as mentioned before, are at -2).
Paradoxically, the noxious fumes left by the gaunt creature actually help Waifera, seeping into her nostrils and down her throat, and somehow dissolve the globule of spittle. She takes a deep, shuddering breath, and a moment later Khitan is there, rebandaging some of her wounds that started to bleed again due to the violence of her previous seizure. She still does not look altogether well, which is saying something given her current condition, but the operative is still alive. The noxious fumes from the Thin Man, however, continue to eat away at Ferrum's structure as he peers around for any hidden X-Ds. He doesn't see any, but he does notice a brightly-colored box lying on the floor just inside the doorway leading into the airship, half-in and half-out of the shadowy interior - the Tailwind's medicine chest.Last edited by Inspectre; 2014-02-03 at 07:18 PM.

At Ferrum's indication, Cinder swoops into the ship, skirts the cloud of poison, and lands gently next to the medicine chest. One look at the lock tells her it's not worth getting the tools out. Instead, she slips her tiny sword under the lid, and with a practiced flick disengages the clasp. She quickly pushes the lid open, and starts passing the contents to the group's healer.
"Can't dilly-dally, the battle won't wait for us," she says, giving Ferrum a significant look, "but do try not to get Waif into another of those clouds, will you?"

Kaeravak spends most of the brief downtime tending to his bruised legs and the shallow wound inflicted by Ferrum's intervention. Opening his side pouch, he produces cloth bandages and ointment, combining the two as a casual matter of rote before they are wrapped tightly about his cut. At the touch of antiseptic on exposed flesh, the pyromancer's mouth grits tightly, cheeks briefly distending with pain. When these unpleasant self-ministrations are done, he lurches slowly, hesitantly, atop unsteady legs, groaning at the uncomfortable pressure. Thrusting a finger towards the Archangel, he speaks:
"We've still got time, but between the fighting and that thing hounding us above, we've got to be quick. Patch up and salvage what you can; we're moving out ASAP."

Re: X-COM: The Fourth Dimension IC (D&D 4E)
Opening the chest reveals an orderly kit of first aid supplies, packed in tight enough that the crash did not disturb them. There are the usual clean bandages, strong thread with needles, tourniquets, and small bottle of cheap alcohol. But in addition, there is also something a little more valuable - a thin vial filled with a greenish liquid that is undoubtedly a healing potion. Evidentially the captain of the Tailwind valued being prepared in the event of an emergency, and this certainly qualified!
(The party gains miscellaneous injury treatment supplies, and 1 Healing Potion. Someone make a Heal check to bring Waifera to full, and Irish to stop taking that ongoing damage (which I *think* he gets a +2 to save against, so it balances out). Irish, you may just want to roll a bunch of saves at once, and then count how many you fail before saving to figure out how much damage you take. Moving on to the next fight this evening).I didn't actually intend to kill EVERYONE. It just sort of happened.

Cinder Ashborn, Pixie Harrier
"Big words for someone that 'asn't done a %#$@%$ thing for this team yet" says Cinder, not even bothering to look up. Carefully, she holds the potion in both hands, and flutters over to Kaeravak. "'ere. If you're gonna keep throwing yourself into danger, you might need this."
Cinder then follows Kaeravak towards the besieged airship. Unlike last time, she stays with the group - no need of a scout, she hopes, in this approach. She still, of course, kept mostly to the shadows.
SpoilerOf the two people without a second wind, Ferrum can't die, so I think Kaeravak is the more logical person to carry the potion until we can take a 5-min break. How much HP do these things recover, anyway?

Re: X-COM: The Fourth Dimension IC (D&D 4E)
Ferrum, Cyborg Satyr WardenAs soon as the Thin Man is slain, Ferrum sees his mistake. The cloud of poison shoots from its body, cloaking him and Waifera in a poisonous fume. As soon as the coast is clear and the other enemies are dead, Ferrum retreats from his cloud of death and get Waifera, the poor thing, out of it. Others come to revive her and once she is back in the world of the living, "Sorry dear. That alien packed a wallop! Maybe, from now on, I set you down if I am going to go charging into battle. I don't want you dying on me again, alright? And don't worry, I'll put you somewhere you can still shoot them from." Ferrum sympathizes with the woman, in the short time where he had most of his body gone, but was still alive somehow, he felt as if his life was at an end anyway. Retracting his blade and shield back into his body, Ferrum kneels for a moment, soaking up healing powers form the earth, trying to cleanse himself of the poison of the alien.

Dagrun does a quick inventory of the medical supplies. He grabs a few things and rushes back to Waifera to change her bandages. Satisfied that the group has what it needs, he hefts his shield and nods to Kaeravak and gives a simple, "Ready."

Kaeravak readily accepts the vial from Cinder, acknowledging the fairy with a nod and chuckle as he tucks her offering away:
"Little doubt about that I'm afraid. Thanks."
When the squad has signaled its readiness, he ventures forth, carefully stalking from cover to cover, body kept low to the ground in a hunched crouch as he does his best to remain inconspicuous on its approach towards the fallen Archangel.

Re: X-COM: The Fourth Dimension IC (D&D 4E)
(Okay, that takes care of business, I think. Yes, Ferrum takes only 5 damage, and 6 damage from the Death Burst - I forgot it's one damage roll for AoE there, so using the first one which was Waifera's gives you 6 on top of that 5 poison from the ongoing before you made your end of turn save. The healing potion allows you to spend a healing surge as a minor action - Standard if you pour it down someone else's throat - and regain 10 HP. Note that you will need to have the potion in hand in order to use it, which requires a free hand and a second minor action to pull out of your belt/backpack/wherever you keep them.)
Waifera takes several deep shuddering breaths, allowing her head to limply rest on Ferrum's shoulder. Finally, she perks up a bit after Dagrun finishes re-treating her injuries and steps back.
"I think *cough* that's probably wise. I've never been much of a fighter on the front lines myself, and now I'm half the person I used to be."
The dark joke was rather unexpected, but at least it suggests that Waifera has (for now) come to terms with the fact that she would never walk again.
Finished with hurriedly patching themselves up, the group presses on towards the site of the H.H.A. Archangel. Like the Tailwind's wreck was away from the Skyrangers, there is some open ground between the wrecks, barring the occasional piece of wreckage jutting up out of ground. As the group grows closer, the sounds of battle grow even louder. The group has not gone far (about 50' or one round of movement), before they weave around enough of the wreckage to get a good look.
The Archangel, being an aerial crusier is fairly large for an airship, well over 100' long and 40' wide. It appears that its crash was somewhat controlled, as a long trough has been dug into the earth behind it, rather than the crater that would have been created has it simply fallen out of the sky. Unfortunately, the ship had grazed against a large piece of wreckage that had already been there, and its back end is now wedged against it. It's hard to see as that side of the airship is currently facing away from the group, but the sounds of the heaviest fighting seem to be coming from over there. Above the din, the group can hear the sound of Tharrok roaring in defiance. "YOU BASTARDS SHALL NOT PASS!"
Which is not to say that the top deck of the airship is deserted, either. From its current distance, the group has difficulty making out details of the figures crouched down behind large wooden crates, but it's clear that there are people guarding the top deck of the ship as well. And for good reason - arrayed out between the group and the airship is a scattered battle line of X-Ds, their full attention currently on the airship.
Included amongst the X-Ds are the by-now familiar unarmored ones, but some new ones as well. The first is a tall figure in armor that looks similar to the unarmored aliens, but is a full head taller than its fellows. It carries what looks like a large harpoon in its hands, and a metal sphere dangles from a bandolier slung across its chest.
The second is an unarmored X-D that is farthest from the group, huddling behind the same sort of strange metal cylinder that the group found the X-Ds slaving over during their first mission. It seems to be dissembling parts of the cylinder, piecing them together into some sort of tube that it straps onto its left arm. Its preparations apparently complete, the creature takes a wire connected to the back of the tube and feeds the other end into the flesh of its upper arm. As the wire breaks into the thing's skin, an eerie green glow begins to shine from one end of the tube.
Of another concern to the group, another patrol of X-Ds is seen moving towards the Archangel, presumably from one of the other crashed airships. These reinforcements do not seem to have noticed the group yet, but it's only a matter of time.

Dagrun nods to the pixie at the mention of breaking through the lines and leans over to Ferrum, "I'll draw their fire, ye move as fast as ye can to the Archangel. If ye can find a shady spot once yer there, that'd be a great place to drop Waifera off. I'll cover her from there."
With that, the dwarf puts on some serious speed and sprints across much of the distance between his allies and the downed airship. He holds his holy symbol aloft as he runs, blasting radiant energy at the Sectoid Centurion.

Re: X-COM: The Fourth Dimension IC (D&D 4E)
Its weapon complete, the unarmored X-D pops out from behind its pod and snaps a shot off at the people aboard the Archangel, aiming for the man working on the ballista near the nose of the airship.

To-Hit: (1d20+8)[9]

As the group races forward, they launch a barrage of attacks against the armored X-D who appears to be in charge of the assault on the downed Archangel. The creature is battered but remains standing long enough for one of its followers to make eye contact. As the by-now familiar mental shield bolsters the commander, the X-D responsible for it dives for cover, huddling flat on the ground behind a large pile of debris nearby.
The rest of the unarmored aliens dash forward, snapping out shots as they run towards the airship, heedless of the danger. Their recklessness pays off, as two of the men on top of the airship fall to the attack.

Re: X-COM: The Fourth Dimension IC (D&D 4E)
As the sounds of battle carry on, Kaeravak listens closely, careful to pick out any cues that might be of use from his position behind the rubble. Peeking out from cover, he notices his companions signalling a target near where he first noticed one of the hostiles.
Wasting no time, the tiefling's hands rupture into flame as he dashes out into the open, into the no man's land, hurtling one of his volatile orbs towards the indicated direction. His flame crashes violently amidst the wreckage about it, bursting like an awry flare before it douses the area with burning incandescence.
SpoilerRound 1:
Move: 6 squares. Stealth (1d20-1)[13](12) (largely pointless, but hey, why not?)
Standard: Ignition Origin square 1 square to the north of the Sectoid
Attack vs Sectoid Grunt 5's Fortitude: (1d20+8)[11](19) (+2 due to CA as S5 can't see Kaeravak)
Hit Effect: (1d10+9)[6](15) fire damage.
Effect: The burst creates a zone until the start of Kaeravak's next turn. A creature that enters the zone or ends its turn there takes 2 fire damage. A creature can only take this damage once per turn.
Contingencies:
None.

Re: X-COM: The Fourth Dimension IC (D&D 4E)
Cinder Ashborn, Pixie Harrier
Cinder watches as her companions rush forwards towards safety, and feels a dread when she realises she will have to be the caboose of the approach - Waifera and Ferrum can't make it on their own. Cinder flutters her wings quickly, little red sparks floating down. With a practised movement, she collects a few handfuls and blows them at Ferrum. "Think murderous thoughts!" she orders him, in the kind of tone generations of sergeants have used to get soldiers to obey without overthinking.
Then, out of time for her own rush to safety, she turns to the enemy commanding officer. Whatever power was boosting him is clearly gone in the conflagration caused by Kaeravak, leaving the tall creature open to another attack. Unfortunately, her aim is off, and her darts go wide.
"Damn!" she says, an eye in the sky for the silver machine.
Spoiler: Actions
Move: Pixie Dust on Ferrum. He can fly up to 6 squares as a free action.
Standard: Sly Flourish @ Centurion
To Hit - (1d20+10)[15] (inc. CA from Centurion not having acted yet)
Damage - (3d6+7)[13] (inc. Sneak Attack)

Re: X-COM: The Fourth Dimension IC (D&D 4E)
As the explosion summoned by Kaeravak rips through the cover that the unarmored creature was hiding behind, vaporizing both, the armored leader clutches its forehead. Black blood oozes out from the corners of the creature's bulbous eyes, but then its armor flares with a bright glow and it seems to right itself - somewhat. Still clearly off-balance, the creature fumbles with its weapon before leveling it at Dagrun. There is a bright flare from the point where the head of the oversized spear meets the shaft, and a flash of fire, and then suddenly the head is shooting towards the dwarven cleric!
Spoiler: Centurion's Action
Standard: Rocket Propelled Harpoon vs Dagrun (vs Reflex, +2 CA from him Running)
To-Hit: (1d20+12)[24]
Damage: (2d4+6)[9]
Hit: Target is Marked (Save Ends or Marker Dies). Target is also Impaled (Until Escape, DC 17)
Impaled - You cannot move farther away from the Centurion. The Centurion, however, can drag you along with it whenever it moves. If you use Athletics/Acrobatics as a Move Action to Escape, you get a +5 bonus to the check, but inflict 2d4 damage to yourself from pulling the harpoon out (if you succeed - failure does nothing). You can instead use Heal (also as a Move Action) to remove the Harpoon which will inflict no damage (but it's against the full DC of 17). Escaping using forced movement inflicts 2d4+6 damage instead. Note that if the Centurion dies or is somehow disarmed, you may move freely, dragging the harpoon behind you - note that there is a small risk of it getting caught on terrain or someone else grabbing hold of it as you run past them, however.
End of Turn Save vs Daze: (1d20)[3]
With an eerie, keening howl, the monstrous canine thing that seems to be a pet of the X-Ds charges forward, towards the group. It passes over a section of rubble as if it were not even there, moving as fast as a horse (Speed 8, that is). It vanishes out of sight behind some wreckage, but Ferrum can still here the beast angrily wheezing from the other side of it.
Meanwhile, the crew of the Archangel finally respond to the threat to their lives. The man up by the ballista works several levers, swinging it around and down to point at the unarmored X-D equipped with a weapon similar to that of the aerial predator, albeit on a smaller scale. Another man also appears from the far side of the airship, snapping off a shot at one of the unarmored creatures running towards the airship.
Finally, there is proof that the people up on the top deck are not alone. From one of the gun ports along the side of the airship, one of the ballistas fires, shooting a massive bolt at the unarmored creature and the metal pod that it was hiding behind. As the bolt impacts, there is a massive explosion!

Secondary Attack, Close Burst 1

Re: X-COM: The Fourth Dimension IC (D&D 4E)
Ferrum, Cyborg Satyr WardenFerrum sneezed at the dust that Cinder blew in his face, "Oh man, that stuff is potent....lets try it out!" Jumping as much as he can, Ferrum find himself and Waifera sailing through the air and then landing on the ground. He lands, fairly softly despite his weight, and takes a look around him, smiling at the flight and weightlessness he encountered. He sees the alien closest to him and eyes it with a grin. Ferrum unfold his weapons and shield from his arms and moves forward. "Hold on, lady. Making a stop before we head to the ship!" He then charges the alien, hoping to end its life on the way to the ship, and to cover for Waifera.

Re: X-COM: The Fourth Dimension IC (D&D 4E)
Waifera also takes this opportunity to kick the wounded X-D, or at least she would if she still had legs. Instead, she merely insults the creature.
"Ugh, you're still alive!? What are you, Super Whaler?"
Spoiler: Waifera's Attack
Vicious Mockery vs Centurion (+2 due to CA) vs Will
To-Hit: (1d20+7)[23]
Damage: (1d6+4)[6]
Being called Super Whaler is apparently too much for the injured creature, and it collapses, releasing its grip on its weapon as it goes and allowing Dagrun to move free (albeit still with a Harpoon sticking out of his side).Last edited by Inspectre; 2014-02-07 at 05:59 AM.

Re: X-COM: The Fourth Dimension IC (D&D 4E)
Dagrun's surprise at being caught by the strange weapon is short lived, as Ferrum and Waifera bring down the alien creature. "Ha, ow!", he winces, "Thank ye kindly! Now get into cover quickly!"
The old dwarf hurries toward the Archangel, the harpoon sticking in his side still trailing the weapon behind it. He does his best to try and gather up some of the rope as he hurries along.
