Problems in Privska

Mayor Ivan Nevidka was returning home to Privska from the nearby town of Lebskov when his carriage was attacked by goblins! They made off with all of his valuables, including his emerald signet ring, the symbol of his office as Mayor of Privska. The distraught mayor hasn’t left his bedroom since the theft, and the citizens are beginning to get annoyed.

The Town Wizard, an old Gnome named Torinth the Eighth, has offered a 1,000 gold piece reward to anybody who can return the Mayor’s ring. Torinth (affectionately known as Toad by the inhabitants of Privska), believes the goblins to be hiding in the ruins of the tower of his exiled predecessor, Torinth the Tenth.

Who can bring the mayor out of his bedroom?

Welcome! I'm GenPol, and I'm hoping to run a low-level Pathfinder game to reacquaint myself with Pathfinder, and to learn about how Play-by-Post games work. I've never GMed a PbP before, so bear with me!

The game will be set in the world of Golarion, largely in the Rostlands region of the Kingdom of Brevoy. Privska, the starting point, is a small town located on the banks of the East Stellen River, south of New Stetven. I'm going for something pretty vanilla, just so I can get a grip PbP games.

System: Pathfinder.
Player Count: 4, with 4 more standbys in the case of player inactivity or character death.
Style of Play: I hope to keep it varied, but my emphasis will probably be on roleplaying, then hack & slash and puzzle solving. Please roleplay amongst yourselves as possible, when traveling or resting.
Allowed Content: You can use anything by Paizo, but if you use anything outside of the Core Rulebook, please clearly indicate where it came from.
Character Creation:

• Backstory: At least 100 words, no more than 300. Try to work in how your character came to live in Privska, if they weren't born there.
• Experience: Starting at level 1, so 0.
• Wealth: Class average or roll here.
• Ability Scores: 20 point buy, or roll the standard 4d6 best 3, six times. If you choose to roll and the value of your ability scores according to the point buy system is less than 15, you can try again.
• Hitpoints/Health: Max at first level, roll or take average after that.
• Alignment: Whatever you want.
  

Other Notes: I'll take the best four submissions, and choose three or four more people to keep on standby, in case one of the chosen players falls inactive or there's a character death.

I'll be trying to post at least once every two days, but feel free to post and roleplay amongst yourselves in my absence. I'll be rolling your initiatives for you to speed up combat.

This is going to be a short game, probably not going past level 6. I'm looking for a well rounded party, so please don't feel bad if you get rejected.

For this adventure, I'd like to submit Brock ManThrow for the DM's approval.

He's a Dwarven Ranger, born above-ground and brought up with a strong love for Wrestling, competition and challenge. Mental and physical. Trained to hunt by his father, as well as how to make traps, he now travels on his own. Wanting to learn more about his Dwarven heritage, since his parents seemed oddly tight-lipped about it.

His first stop in this journey of self-discovery has brought him to Privska. Where they don't seem to have any kind of Hunter anything set up. No guild or large group of Hunters for gathering, since they seemed perfectly stable with farmland and domesticated animals. Brock offers his tracking ability and hunting talent to the locals, offering to do trade with them for any meat or animal hide he collects, to pay for his room, board and supplies.

Used the 20-point buy and went with average starting gold. Which, for Ranger, is 175 gp.

Originally from distant Andoran, Chase Freemark was lured north with tales of the River Kingdoms and the chance for anyone to make a name for themselves. Joining up with an expedition set to map the Stolen Lands they were beset upon by a wicked villain known only as the "Stag Lord" while traveling on the South Rostland Road. Trying to fight off the bandits was disastrous and most of the expedition was killed. Chase, struggling to free one of the horses from one of the wagons was rendered unconscious by a blow to the back of the head and fell into Shrike River, washing up downstream hours later bruised, bloodied and soaking wet but still breathing. Having lost all taste for the River Kingdoms Chase made his way north, traveling from tavern to tavern, doing oddjobs to put food in his stomach until he heard about this Mayor a few towns to the north who was robbed by goblins. Cleaning the grime off his gear and the mold off of his spellbook Chase strapped on his boots and set off for Privska.

Welcome! I'll be accepting character submissions until March, so feel free to submit one.

If you haven't read it already, the Guide to Play by Post Games should outline the basics of how this sort of game works, including dice rolling, character submission, etc. To submit a character, you could either make a statblock and post it here in this thread, or you could use a virtual character sheet such as Myth-Weavers.

For instructions for making a character in this specific campaign, check the spoiler in the top post labelled "16" questions. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

Will the adventure take place solely in Privska? I have a character concept that... implies she is prone to wanderlust/ seeking out new adventures, but if there's steady work in this town, I have a backup justification to keep her around....

Alright I have settled on a character concept, but it requires a very "interesting" interpretation of the rules. Specifically the rule for orcs and half-orcs that they may "treat any weapon with the word “orc” in its name as a martial weapon."

Does uh...... does "tORCh" have the word "orc" in its name? Because I'd like to make a character that wields a torch as a main weapon.

Well, as least in Pathfinder, it's described as a gauntlet of the appropriate size that deals an additional 1 point of fire damage. So perhaps it could be treated as a Simple weapon? If not, maybe you could lift the Pathfinder feat of 'Catch Off-Guard' so there's no penalty against you for improved weapons.

No, we'll end up traveling at the very least around the Rostlands and Brevoy more broadly, and maybe even into the River Kingdoms a bit. At least that's what I have planned, we'll see what actually happens, could be much more.

The alchemist Torch Bearer archetype, so she treats any torch she wields as an ever burning torch that still gives off heat. It also lets you use a standard action to add 2d6 to the next attack and set that target on fire. Basically, she's just going to be hellbent on setting anything dangerous on fire.

Probably after 4th level she will pick up levels of witch or oracle or something that gives other fiery-related goodness.

Basically, she's just going to be some knight's torchbearer servant who slowly learns she is fantastic with fire, and starts using it to the point of surpassing the knight in combat.
