Default GUNDAM Sol: Episode 1, Wall of Shadows [IC]

The Opening Theme song, to go along with the first paragraph.
The year... is After Colony 71...
It has been 45 years since the Sol War began and ripped it's way through the system, 45 years of relentless war that has claimed millions of lives on both sides. The war has ravaged worlds, decimated colonies and twisted minds towards eternal hatred, and yet, even in the void, one nation has prospered. The Arclight Union, united long before the war as a nation without the rules and restrictions of the UEF and Zeon. It is a nation that was built on free thought and the will to create, it is a nation that has survived and grown on the acts of arms trade and private mercenary corporations. For 45 years it has endured, and for 45 years it has earned the respect and hatred of both sides in equal measure. Now, as the tides of fate begin to move again, the war begins to move in a new direction...

You wake up in your warm bed, the artificial lights of Arclight station slowly warming up in a fairly decent representation of a sunrise, a few decades ago someone even had the idea of projecting a holographic landscape, complete with an orb of light onto the roof of the colony. If it actually moved you'd never know you were on an artificial station. It's been about a week since your last missions, and though Commander Korvanne has kept in contact with you, it's been a day or two since you last heard from him.
The sounds of the station waking up begin to filter into your room. It's a new day, just like any other, right? You can't shake the feeling today's important for some reason...

    Soundtrack

Red eyes snapped open as the first rays of artificial dawn hit Kasimir's face, painting the room in shades of crimson and orange through the blinds. The spiky-haired, whipcord thin, former Zeon pilot was propped nearly upright against the wall at the head of his bed, using a few pillows to make himself comfortable. He looked down at the half-empty bottle of whiskey in one hand and the pistol in his other hand, contemplating them for a moment before choosing the whiskey. He sloshed a mouthful of burning, amber liquid down his throat and tucked the pistol behind him and under his pillow. Then he grinned, wide and foxlike, and vaulted off of the bed fully dressed. He shrugged on a Zeon pilot's jacket with all the unit and rank patches ripped off, grabbed a few personal items, and slammed the door on his way out.

Outside, Kas perched a pair of circular shades high on his nose. Then he produced his personal comm device and checked the colony's network for news updates and his private inbox for any orders he might have received overnight. He roomed off base because he didn't like having MP's constantly watching his every move, but the military compound wasn't too far away if he had to get there.

A feminine sigh, a protest against the "dawning" of a new day comes from a messy jumble of clothing and covers on the comfortable bed. A pillow rockets out to slap ineffectually against the window, followed by a groan and finally a young woman's head peeking out from beneath the covers.

Niladaya reaches a hand up to her throat, fingers running over the ridges of the collar comfortably fitted to her neck. She lays there for a few moments, contemplating the overwhelming circumstances she finds herself in for the hundreth time. A bang on her door pulls her from her reverie, prompting her to hold a hand up towards the camera sitting high in one corner of the room, middle finger held up for several long moments. She then slips out from under the bedsheets, grabbing a jacket from the top of the clothing pile and throwing it over the camera on her way to the shower, blacking out the scene. The sound of running water is heard, followed by the door sliding open and a voice muttering, "Bitch".

    Inessa Salia
Inessa's HARO (Hazard Automatic Response Operator)
    Soundtrack

*Somewhere in a cloud of space debris orbiting Earth*
    - Cadet Salia reporting! Six bandits on an oversun course. ETA to your position - 4,3 minutes. Requesting order - The girl in the cockpit of the recon mobile suit have tried her best to make sure, that her voice wouldn't tremble, but that wasn't really successful - her first operation as a proud member of the Bronze Talons shouldn't involve Arc mercs showing out of nowhere and threating to pincer her entire squad. It was just...wrong.
"- Cadet Salia -" major Hudson's voice woke her from thinking "- Engage to distract. Hudson over."
What?! - that wasn't the order any sensible commander would do, but then again, she didn't have much choice. The girl made a deep breath and threw her MS into desperate combat "- Don't worry, Iness, you can hold them off for a couple of minutes" - she tried to comfort herself, relying on her unit's superiour maneuverability to keep the mercs busy until her squad regroups and comes to the rescue...
As the girl understood five minutes later, hope was a stupid feeling. No backup ever arrived, and the only thing she saw coming for her was a torrent of beam fire from all sides. All indicators inside the MS slowly crawled into red - one more hit and...

    HAR-O! HAR-O! Six o'clock, Six o'clock!
Inessa awakened in cold sweat - there was that damn nightmare again. Not even bothering to get of the bed, the young woman grabbed her electronic cigarette - her prayers was with the manufacturers of the synthetic nicotine - the only drug she could safely use. Two ampules and a healthy cloud of smoke later she at the very least got up. The rest of the base would probably not hear of her for at least an hour - the usuals - shower, breakfast (no coffee - that was another loss to the damn allergy) and more synthetic nicotine. The morning was anything but good for the Arc Union MS pilot Inessa Salia.

The obnoxiously loud alarm found Asher already awake. Another of those nights, started out of a fitful sleep by some vision of the last mission, lying as still as he could and trying to get his pulse to slow until his morning wake-up call. At this rate, it wouldn't be long at all before he'd have to give in and start using sedatives if he wanted to get any decent rest.
He glanced up at the camera mounted high up on the opposite wall. They hadn't bothered to hide it--they wanted him to know he was being watched. Taking a deep breath and swallowing his frustration, Ash dragged himself off the mattress and stumbled over to the bathroom door. No cameras in there, at least, or so he fervently hoped. He went about his morning routine, scarcely paying any mind to his surroundings, praying that he wouldn't be called up again for another day...

Scrolling through your the colonies news network a few things catch your eye but nothing important. Yadin Manufacturing is unveiling a new template for increase building stability, Meryl Ichioda is returning from her latest tour in the UEF and performing at the DeSaille gardens in a week, the Lichtenstein house is holding a seminar on the continued use and viability of warships in void combat etc. etc. etc.
Thumbing through your personal inbox you find two messages. The first if from Commander Korvanne, requesting your presence in the Arc Blades Command Hall in about three hours. You assume this is for a briefing but you notice the message doesn't say why you're needed. The second message is from the Brightsword's Captain Hayate Tojiro, it reads simply
    "Brass Spoon, hungry?"
You discern the meaning quickly, the Brass Spoon is a small diner not far from your condo. You and Hayate used it as the hangover cure and eatery of choice after a night of heavy drinking.

    Niladiya
A few minutes into your shower you hear the click and sliding noise indicating that someone just entered your room, a moment later you hear the rustling that indicates that once again the clothes you threw over the camera have been pulled off, and like clockwork three seconds later there are three sharp raps on the bathroom door.
"Pilot, you know that tampering with Union-base recording equipment is against protocol"
The voice drones from the other side, the same goddamn administration clerk as always. It's quite a wonder how someone can sounds so completely bored and drawling.
"You've been reassigned, the Arc Hunters no longer need your... services", the voice says, the last part drawn out mockingly.
"You have been assigned to the Arc Blades under Commander Gerrard Korvanne. You will report to the Arc Blades command hall in exactly three hours from now, failure will result in severe repercussions"
A few moments later you hear footsteps and the sound of your door closing, signalling the clerks departure.

    Inessa
Thankfully your morning begins fairly normally, without any emergency alarms or panic or general mayhem. As your finishing breakfast HARO flutters over, eyes flashing.
HAR-O! HAR-O! INCOMING MESSAGE! INCOMING MESSAGE!
Without any prompt from you it lands near the room's vid-screen and plugs into it. A moment later the screen flashes to life and the image of the Brightsword's First Officer, Grace McKinner is staring at you, smiling warmly.
"Good morning Inessa, I hope you've been well. Sorry I've been out of touch for so long, but you know how the Union brass can be, and Carter keeps insisting that we need to respec the launch catapults to optimize with the weapon systems cooldown systems... Anyways, new orders came through this morning. All crew are to report to the Command Hall at 12 hundred hours, or about three hours from now, also just to remind you Captain Hayate will be giving the briefing, and be around in general so... just remember what he's like"

    Asher
You've just finished showering and about to begin finding something to eat when your commlink goes off. The automatic message scrawls across the screen and you're able to catch the following.
"Pilot Yadin (Asher). Your presence is required in the Arclight Blades command hall at 12:00 (3 hours standard from now). Report to Commander Gerrard Korvanne or Helsman Carter McKinner upon arrival. Failure to arrive within the required time frame will result in severe repercussions.
The message repeats itself twice before flashing off and storing itself in your inbox. As you're realizing what this means with a sense of dread there is a knock on your door.

The scrolling text passed across the screen; Ash stood stock-still, a cold sense of dread slowly creeping up to his brain. It scrolled by again. Oh God...no, please no, not yet.... His head threatened to start spinning--he swallowed, fighting down panic. The first time they'd called, he'd tried to get out of it, crying and pleading like a colossal child. All he'd accomplished was to embarrass himself. It may not have gotten any less horrible, but he'd learned soon that nothing he said or did would make any difference. He had a feeling the consequences for talking out of line the way he had should have been much more severe...maybe dad was making sure they went easy.
It took him a moment to realize someone was at the door. "Oh, uh...hang on!" Shaking his head clear, he hurried over to the door and jabbed the button...a second before he remembered that all he was currently wearing was a t-shirt and boxers. Goddammit....

Kas scanned the news articles, mumbling "Boring, boring, super boring..." before switching over to his personal inbox. Now there was something interesting! His crimson eyes flashed with interest. It looked like he was finally being reactivated after all this monotonous, horrible, grinding "personal time." Not much to do all by himself but to drink the past away and try to dock his spaceship, so to speak, at the local watering holes. If Kasimir didn't get back into open space soon he was going to go postal.

Speaking of space cases..."Tojiro! Good timing!" Kas exclaimed and immediately adjusted his direction toward the Brass Spoon and a grease-filled breakfast with one of his few friends.

Hayate Tojiro was the captain of the Brightsword and one of the only mercs in the whole Arclight outfit that could keep up with him. It wasn't often that they hit the diner without a pair of massive hangovers from the night before. Maybe something was up?

"Hayate, you sorry sonivabitch! Where are you? Oy!" Kasimir shouted into the quiet diner as soon as he slammed open the door. It earned his entrance more than a couple glares, but he didn't seem to pay them any attention.

Sometimes, Inessa have wondered, if she was right to give a piloting co-processor a pseudo-AI for it to serve as a pet and organizer. Well, she hoped to live until the army of dread HARO-s would take over the world. Though with her current occupation, that could be difficult - for example, there would be a briefing in three hours. And of course, McKinner was overprotective again. Or was it jealous - Inessa wasn't sure. Anyway, she sent a note of confirmation to the First Officer - and returned to her bed - there was at least two hours suitable for sleep. And Pilot Salia was going to use them. Of course, she will come to the briefing room in time - that's what HARO-s for. Aside from being piloticng co-processor, that is.

The water is turned up almost painfully hot, right on the edge of the tolerable range. Steam swirling about her Nila leans up against the small shower wall and laughs, laughs loud enough that perhaps the clerk, the jailer can hear its mocking tone. "Now who's going to take all your suicide missions.". she mutters to herself. Finishing up in the shower she exits and heads into her room, drying off her hair before getting dressed.

Waiting till she is almost going to be late heading over, Nila grabs a tube of lipstick that generally goes without any use and the rooms sole seat aside from the bed, a wooden stool. She places the stool under the camera and stands on it, stretching and reaching, and draws a smiley face on the camera lens before exiting, presumably with an ever ready escort.

There were a few people you expected to see when the door opened. Maybe a Union guard to make sure you wouldn't try and run off, maybe Grace McKinner? The First Officer was the only person who seemed to genuinely care about your aversion to violence. The last person you were expecting to see as the door slid open was your father. Tall, and imposing to everyone save his family Aron Yadin looks at you with mild surprise, his stern expression turning to that of mild bemusement. To your surprise standing behind him is your brother, Marik Yadin. Taller than you, but inheriting your mother's sandy blonde hair and lighter skin he tilts his head and smirks a bit at your appearance.
"Well son... good to see you're starting to relax around the base..." Aron says after a few moments.
"I was informed about your deployment an hour ago. Since Marik is on leave for the moment I thought this might be a good chance to catch up over breakfast. What do you say?"

    Kasimir
A great many heads turn as you enter the diner, though the number of people who nod in your direction or raise a hand in greeting almost outnumber the number of glares. You've been here so often you're almost a regular at this point, you see Hayate at the back of the diner, raising a hand in greeting and gesturing for you to join him. He's got his usual, fried eggs on fried rice with heavily buttered toast. However he looks fairly normal, no disheveled hair or messed, stained clothes. On the contrary he's wearing his crisp officers uniform and the only sign he's been drinking are the slight bags under his eyes. Beside his food he's got multiple files open in front of him, one looks like a mission briefing and one looks like a personnel dossier. He's also got a small cylindrical device in his hand, it looks like an emergency distress beacon of some kind, a small pale white tube with a red button on top. Unlike other beacon's the button has a glass protective case covering it.
As you approach he stifles a yawn and holds out his hand in greeting.
"How've you been Kasimir? Enjoying the free time and plentiful booze?"

    Inessa
Sleep comes easily, though it does not come peacefully. Soon after you close your eyes come the flashes and jolts of panic, it's not the nightmare of before but something similar. Alarm signals blaring and a chorus of screaming bring you out of your slumber, though as you wake you realize the screaming is merging into the calls of HARO, who is bouncing next to the vid-screen again.
    HAR-O! HAR-O! INCOMING MESSAGE! INCOMING MESS-Ieal...iAIU...lua2..2
HARO's voice suddenly cuts and distorts, the vid-screen bursts to life, a mess of static and low white noise. Across the screen a red message is flashing, it simply reads.
    ACCEPT TRANSMISSION?

    Niladiya
As you leave your room you swear you can hear someone curse from farther down the hall. The trip down doesn't take too long, as usual a few people stare at you as you walk by, surprised by the sight of a woman walking around with a bomb collar around her neck. As you near the command hall you see a man waiting by the mess halls, looking directly at you. He's an older man, with white hair a creased, tan face and a battle-hardened demeanor. He's wearing Union-issue mobile suit fatigues and the insignia on his shoulders and his collar studs denote him as an Arc Commander. As you approach he nods in your direction.
    "Pilot Niladiya D'Evenant?"
You're mildly surprised how blunt yet calm his voice sounds.

Kasimir appropriated Hayate's coffee cup and refilled it about four-fifths of the way up out of the silver carafe. "I'm bored as hell. I haven't killed anything in so long I contemplated eating a bullet myself this morning just to break the monotony." He sloshed some half and half into it, swirling some cream color into the black swill the diner tried to pass off as French Roast. Kas finished making it halfway drinkable by emptying four or five sugar packets into it, stirring it with the spoon he found after he dumped the contents of his rolled up napkin onto the table.

"You're looking surprisingly pretty, today. You got a date?" Kasimir observed, ignoring the files on the table in favor of taking the piss out of his friend a bit. He took a big gulp of the coffee and then made a face like it didn't agree with him. "Are you bringing that little panic button along in case he gets a little handsy?" he snarked.

Niladaya stops and plants a hand on her hip, cocked out slightly as she responds, "Yeah, thats me Grandpa.", she squints her eyes at the collar as if she had not noticed the rank markings before "My apologies, Commander Grandpa, Sir." she corrects herself and gives an energetic salute that makes the gesture seem almost mocking.

Ash had been prepared to put on a cheerful face for whoever his caller was, but at the sight of dad's face, he found most of the fear of a moment ago draining away. His father was like that, somehow--he'd never managed to be scared or worried about anything while he was around.
"Oh--um, yeah, sure, that'd be fantastic. Just gimme a second to finish suiting up" he says with a chuckle, closing the door. A few seconds later he stepped outside, having foregone his normal work outfit in favor of more comfortable civilian wear. "Sorry, I didn't exactly expect a visit from you guys. You have anywhere in particular in mind?"

What the... - Inessa nearly fell from the bed when her companoin's synthesyzed voice have broken in-between words. She rushed to the terminal where weird message flashed annoyingly, disconnected the HARO from the data port - just for safety and clicked "Yes" on the vidscreen panel. She watched the transmission not really attentively, being more interested in the state of the piloting co-processor.

    Kasimir
Hayate shakes his head with a smirk.
"Unless you've forgotten it's protocol for an officer to be in uniform when he gives a mission briefing. Though I doubt you'd know anything about responsibility"
He paused for a moment, letting his own jab hand in the air for a bit as he wolfed down some of his food. Wiping his mouth he pushed the dossier towards Kasimir, the folder contains the mugshot of a woman in her mid-twenties with jet black hair, a heavily tatooed shoulder and hard brown eyes. Her expression is a mix of anger and annoyed and a small black bomb collar rests around her neck.
Hayate used his free hand to snatch a new coffee cup from a passing waitress and drains it before pointing to the picture.
"We have a new recruit assigned to the Brightsword. Niladaya D'Evenant, Ex-Wrought Iron Brigade who was essentially press-ganged by the lovely Arc Hunters. She's been bounced between the officers of the Hunters and Masters for a few years, and she's fallen into our hands now. Apparently she's quite a handful, this-"
He shook the hand holding the beacon-like cylinder
"Is apparently the detonator to her bomb-collar, which Commander Sajikaru apparently put on her to ensure loyalty. She's also the main reason I called you here. I don't assume you know Niladaya but I'm wondering what you know about the Wrought Iron Brigade. Any chance she's actually going to be a raging psycho or do you think Sajikaru's just off his rocker again?"

    Niladaya
    The man shakes his head.
"Well, at least they were right about your demeanor."
He walks towards Niladaya and extends his hand. "Gerrard Korvanne, Commander of the Arc Union and your new CO, as it would seem."
Regardless of whether or not she shakes his hand he gestures towards the Mess hall over his shoulder.
"Now I don't know how your old CO's handled things and quite frankly I don't give a rat's ass, but soldiers under my command are required to know their CO and remain healthy. In this case that means this old grandpa interviewing you over breakfast, so I suggest you head in there and grab a plate"
You can see into the mess hall over Gerrard's shoulder. The room is fairly empty, what with it being close to noon. The automated buffet area is currently stocked with what you'd usually find in a continental breakfast, though most of the food has less taste and more nutrition jammed into it.

    Asher
As you step out of your room you notice two Yadin Corp security guards standing on either side of your door, it does make sense that your father would travel here under guard. Aron Yadin gestures towards a hovercar waiting at the end of the hallway. "Your mother suggested a small little place near the merchant docks. I figured you and your brother might enjoy a break from the standard military food"
The journey up to the elevator complex doesn't take to long, the security guards flank the car in grav-bikes and your father sits up front with the driver, leaving you and Marik in the back of the car. Halfway up the main vehicle lift Marik turns to you, with the same smirk he had at your door.
"So a little bird told me all about how excited you were to go on your first mission, so full of energy and tears" he says with more than a hint of sarcasm. "Good to see you're out there upholding the family name..."

    Inessa
As you accept the transmission you here the distinct 'click' of the vid-screen switching to communications mode. The static dies down and you see the back-lit, blurred image of an unknown figure staring back at you. As the figure speaks his voice is distorted and warbling in a manner common for most vocal modulators.
"Pilot Salia, we've been attempting to make contact with you for quite some time."
The figure says, clasping his hands as he speaks
"I am aware that your... services with the UEF terminated under unfortunate circumstances, but we wish to extend an opportunity to aid your home-world in a matter we believe you would be interested in..."

    Kasimir Albrecht

Kasimir leaned back a little and gave an exaggerated shrug with his palms raised to the air and his eyes closed. "I'm a merc, Hayate. What do I care about protocol?" he asked rhetorically.

He laid his legs longways across the booth's bench seat and picked up the dossiers as the Captain slid them over to him. With one hand busy holding the coffee mug, he paged through the documents until he got to the photo and then seemed to perk up a bit. "My my my..." he gave the photo a little wolf-whistle as Tojiro continued to explain about the bomb collar. "Looks like my kind of woman."

Giving Hayate a small frown, Kasimir put down his coffee cup and put his legs back under the table. "Lord Admiral Darrius McTarrin," he began, rolling his eyes for emphasis, "is a fanatic to the Zeon cause, and his soldiers are guaranteed loyal. They're the Initiative's shock troops, all gung-ho and blazing glory. I'd have to talk to her to give you a straight answer, but if she's got a bomb around her neck and a history of being forced into service, she's probably not a happy camper."

"Any reason why you're telling me all this?" Kas raised an eyebrow. "...And can I keep this photo?" he added, breaking out into a grin. It seemed he couldn't keep an air of seriousness for very long.

"Hey man, I already got enough of that from just about every freaking person on the base. Let it drop, okay?" Ash laughed and kept his tone joking, but Marik's words stung. Much as he didn't like being in this situation, he hated how he'd acted back then, and was determined to be more mature next time. As soon as an opportunity came to get out of service, he planned to be on it like red on Mars, but until then, he might as well act like an adult.
"So you guys heard about my next deployment? Know anything about it?"

Niladaya looks down at the offered hand and then back up at the man, one eyebrow arching up as she folds her arms across her chest. "Well breakfast sounds good, and ask away, I'm an open goddamn book, besides, everything from my first pet's name to my favorite color is in your files already.", she laughs, the sound short, a smile crossing her face as if at some private joke.

Heading past the commander she strides into the mess hall, grabbing a tray and building a rather modest and healthy yet utterly tasteless meal. She plops down at the end of one of the tables, sliding into the seat and waiting for the commander.

"Err, what?" - Inessa's thoughts have dissapeared for a moment. Covert recruiting? In the middle of the ARC homebase? She felt flattered - she imagined the effort needed to infiltrate the network just for her. The pilot blinked for couple of times to get her thoughts in line, then she have sat at the terminal, ajusted the screen a bit and put HARO on her knees.
Cameras. No microphones - she warned her "contact" Inessa wan't sure, if there were actual cameras in her room but oh, well (She imagined one in her shower, though) - For the intellegence, I'm repairing a glitched robot - she added, while actually performing manipulations on both the HARO and the terminal - for extra credibility. - Please continue

    Bryce Ogata

Bryce was always a light sleeper to begin with, but his insomnia had been getting worse over the past week. By the time the "sun" was starting to rise over Arclight Station, he had already been up for several hours, though he had spent that time just sitting in bed, staring at a blank wall. While other mercenaries tended to decorate their rooms with pictures, medals, certificates of achievement, and various other war trophies, Bryce chose to keep his quarters completely spartan. Unlike his fellow mercenaries, he wasn't in it for honor or for glory or even for the steady paycheck. He just wanted it all to be over with. "Let the other guys celebrate their small victories," he thought. "The only one that matters hasn't been won yet."

The moment the artificial light struck his eyes, Bryce began to move, sluggishly at first but steadily picking up speed as he eased himself into his morning routine. It was becoming more and more of a chore for him to just get out of bed, much less shower regularly, put on clean clothes, or eat a decent meal, but he still persevered. "No rest for the wicked," he mused to himself as he finished changing into his uniform.

After going out to grab a light breakfast at the mess hall, where he caught a brief glimpse of Commander Korvanne interviewing what seemed to be a new recruit, Bryce decided to just report directly to the Arc Blades Command Hall and wait for the mission briefing to take place. He had nothing better to do anyway.

    Kasamir
Hayate's scowl is apparent as Kasamir filled him in on Darruis's brigade "Yeah, keep the picture, I don't need it if I'll be seeing her soon enough... bollocks. Here I was hoping for Sajikaru to be testing his sadist urge again and for the girl to be a swooning peach" he stopped for a moment, noting the strangeness of his words before polishing off the rest of his food and going for another coffee refill.
"In any case, hope you're ready and fueled for a fight, cause we're dropping into almost certain combat today. Can't talk too much about it or Gerrard would have my head but we're deploying alongside him today, and you know how unusual that is.
It was surprising that the leader of the Arc Blades would come alongside a group of fairly unknown pilots on a mission.
"I haven't seen his retinue's Gundam's near the Brightsword, which is even stranger. I don't know too much about what's going on, but keep on your toes Kasimir. I expect to have a drinking buddy after this mission..."

    Ash
Aron Yadin's gaze snaps to Marik and the stern look creeps across his face again.
"That's enough Marik. You're brother didn't ask for this duty, it was thrust upon him"
After a moment he turns back to Asher with a softer expression.
"I'm sorry son, but I haven't heard anything yet about your new deployment. I asked them to reconsider pulling you from service but it's still the same. As long as the Messiah has no other compatible pilots commander Korvanne insists you aid the Arc Blades"

You feel the car begin to slow down, and past Marik you can see a fairly quaint little cafe in front of you. Bright awning, bustling patio area and the smell of non-military food hit you as the outrider opens the door for you. You also notice that the cafe posts a small sign proudly stating that all their ingredients are imported fresh from the UEF and Arc farmlands. As the second outrider moves to get you all a table Marik steps out, then turns back to you, the smirk gone from his face.
"In all seriousness bro I don't know much either. All I've heard is that the mission got passed to Commander Sajikaru and he rejected it. Said he didn't want to have anything to do with it. He shipped some psycho bitch over to your squad though, so word of warning: keep an eye out when you're flying today"

    Niladaya
The corner of Gerrard's mouth twitches as Niladaya mentions her favorite colour. Taking nothing but a coffee for himself he seats himself opposite to Niladaya and sips his drink thoughtfully.
"Ah yes, favorite colour. I enjoyed reading through that tirade of different options. I was also slightly shocked when I stumbled across Corporal Reiner's completely non-extreme and perfectly sane attempts to get that truth from you" The latter part of his sentence is dripping with sarcasm, almost heavy enough to match your own, clearly he's seen the "interrogation" video's.

"Those kinds of things are what I wanted to talk to you about. You were very open when the Union, erm... 'recruited' you, which surprised some of our officers as you'd imagine. What has surprised me in your record is the sarcasm, the scathing wit and retorts. You almost seem to be begging your CO's to use that bomb collar on you"
He gestured to the collar with his free hand, though his eyes linger on it for a while as he continues.
"I'm mostly interested in why you persist in that kind of behavior. I like to think I have a thick hide but some of the things you've said to the Arc Hunters make me surprised you're still breathing. So tell me, is there any particular reason you enjoy toying with them? Is it hatred, annoyance, or do you just like prodding people?"

    Inessa
The figure pauses for a few moments, and your not sure if he's simply taking in what you've said or trying to figure out if you're lying. In any case the figure eventually nods and continues.
"Of course, we understand. Do not fear, our goals would not have you betraying or feeding information about the Arc Union, our objectives directly lie within the UEF. We are aware that you are about to embark upon a mission, though you do not know the missions parameters yet you should know it is, in best terms a search and retrieve mission."
The image crackles for a second, and you've started to make a breakthrough in the tracking. On HARO's secondary monitor you can see a small GPS area of station appear and expand. With slight alarm you notice that the general radius is well within Arc Station's North Western hemisphere, meaning the signal is coming from somewhere on the station.

"The mission objective in question is what we take interest in, and though we are not yet at liberty to discuss the object until you have pledged to work alongside us. However it may aid your decision if we note that the reason we are interested in your objective is related to your former CO, now General Hudson."
The image crackles again before continuing.
"If you wish to aid us, all we require for now is your pledge that you will assist us and in doing so, aid the UEF. If you accept we can go into more detail. If you don't you will never see us again, and this conversation will never have any affect on you"

    Bryce
As you walk the halls various personnel nod in greeting, raise a hand or yell some sort of encouraging words. Reaching the Command Hall you note that you've still got a bit over an hour to go before the meeting starts, though there are some people already in the hall. Sitting behind the command dias is the Brightswords Helmsmen, Carter McKinner, he has his head down and is pouring over a mission briefing. Natalie Andres is also in the room, walking around and placing small vid-pads in front of each desk, she's also sipping coffee from a small styrofoam cup and yawning occasionally. There is a third man in the room you don't recognize, tall, grizzled and in his 50's the man has brown hair, streaked with grey and hard green eyes, like Carter he is pouring over a mission briefing.
As you enter the Hall Natalie looks up and waves to you, stifling a yawn but smiling brightly.
    "Morning Bryce!"
Putting down the last vid-pad she jogs over to the front of the room where someone has set up a coffee machine. A few moments later she's jogged back over to you, offering a similar styrofoam cup of coffee.
"Want some? You've still got some time before the briefing so you'd better be alert and ready!"

    Kasimir Albrecht

"Hey, hey, hey! You should know by now that I'm going to live forever." Kasimir said dismissively as he tucked the picture into one of his pockets. Hayate probably wouldn't have given it to him if he'd realized what Kas was going to do with it. "You want me coming with you on this one? Tch..." he refilled his own coffee cup and whistled at the waitress to let her know it was empty. (She didn't seem too happy about it.) "Now I know you're expecting trouble."

Kasimir made a pistol shape with his thumb and forefinger, pointing it at the Captain as he closed one eye, like he was lining up a shot. "Hope you're ready for my usual amount of collateral damage..." he smirked, "...and you better tell those bean-counters at HQ to have my pay ready when we're done. When we get back, I just might have a date!" he added, patting the picture in his pocket and miming firing his pistol-fingers while making the appropriate sound effect.

"Got it. Psycho bitch, tread carefully." Ash gives Marik a thumbs-up and a rueful grimace. Well, this one ought to be interesting, if nothing else. "Thanks for the heads-up, bro. Now do me another favour and help me forget I'm in the army for the next two hours." He seats himself in the booth across from dad. "So how are mom and sis? I haven't really been in touch with them much...."
As the morning slips by, Ash really does manage to feel a little better about the deployment orders. Come on, it could be worse. You get to pilot one of the coolest mobile suits ever built, and it's a support role, anyway, so they'll keep you away from the really intense combat. You'll be saving lives by keeping your teammates afloat. By the time he forces down his second bowl of imitation cornflakes, he almost believes it. All the same, in what seems like no time at all, 12:00 draws far too close. "Well, uh...I should probably get going. Thanks for breakfast, dad." It takes Ash all the willpower he can muster to rise from his seat.
He turns to leave, then stops. "Hey, and, um...thanks for looking out for me."
He doesn't let himself look back as he heads for the base.

Inessa continued to "repair damaged HARO", while listening to the UEF recruiter. The offer was tempting, and Inessa did give a jerk, hearing the "general Hudson" part, yet... they reaaly took her for a fool, and she hated that.
    - Bad attempt, mr No-Idea-Who-You-Are. I'm not a dumb naive girle, you know, I'm a accomplised specialist. You don't buy a specialist by making a look across her background and throwing a name from it. Hell, you just threw a hint about the man and allready expecting a pledge? No-no-no, please provide me with the briefing and most importantly, guarantees and then we'll have a talk. Otherwise - there's plenty dumb blondes in the Accounting office for you
Throwing a speach towards the recruiter, Inessa hoped to buy time for pinpointing the location of the signal - after all, the more time the contact is online - the harder it is to obfuscate the electronic trace.

Nila eats as the commander talks, when he finally asks a question she spears something that resembles a sausage on the tines of the plastic spork and leans back in her seat, she balances it on the edges of the back legs almost casually and puts her feet up on the table, as she speaks she gesticulates with the sausage/spork combo.

"Of the expendable assets that are all your precious boys and girl's in whatever sad outfit you are running, I'm by far the most expendable eh? Especially given my...particular fighting style. " she says, mock thrusting the sausage at the commander.

"People like me are already dead, its just a matter of time before whatever luck we have been bestowed with runs out, and we run into some people smarter, or faster then we are. So you ask about this pretty necklace you people have given me?", she laughs, spinning the sausage laden spork back and forth. "That's exactly what it is to me, if I really wanted to jump across this table and make you choke to death on this hunk of garbage meat, the collar wouldn't stop me.", she smirks.

"You should try to get your hands on the wrought iron's records on me sometime, you might be surprised.", she considers the sausage for a moment before popping it in her mouth. "I cooperate on missions though, because hell, its not fair to punish whoever you have that is stupid, unlucky, or greedy enough to be running missions with me. Unless they deserve it."

    Kasimir
Hayate smirked as Kasimir pointed the pistol-gun at him "You're damn right I know what I'm getting into. I need result, and damn the guff I'll get from statistics". He raises as eyebrow in mock surprise as Kasimir talks about his pay "Oh? Look at you, moving up in the world, and here I thought we'd be able to just pay you in booze again"
Hayate signals the waitress over, pays the bill and spectacularly fails to pick up her number. Though he does receive a slap for his troubles. Sighing he gets up and gestures to leave.
"We should probably head out, Gerrard will have my head if we're not on time"

    Asher
As Asher gets up to leave his father gives him a warm smile that calms his nerves somewhat "Alright son. Be careful out there, you're mother and I know you can get this job done".
Marik watches you rise from your seat, and flashes a cocky grin to his brother."Knock 'em dead out there bro. I expect to see you on the active roster when I get back"
The two outriders are waiting for you by the car, and though it should have been a long ride to the Arc Blades base it seems like you've barely settled into the car when you're pulling up to the Command Hall.

    Inessa
There is silence on the other side for a minute or so, and the image flickers once or twice as if about to cut out. During this time you're able to pinpoint the location to somewhere near the market's and housing area's of the DeSalle's territory. As you start to delve into the the figure responds.
"Very well, though with this briefing we are assuming you have accepted the mission. The object you will be sent to retrieve is a UEF storage device containing many records on UEF personnel including General Hudson. We believe several of these files contain information that UEF intelligence could find invaluable. Your mission is to retrieve a copy of the files and place them in a dead drop location once you have returned. You will have two assets, one military and one intelligence that you can call upon during your mission. Once your Arc briefing is complete we will have a contact deliver the a drive core. Place the drive core into the storage device to download a copy of the data. Do not let any UEF or Arc members discover your mission. If you choose to decline the mission simply tell the contact when you meet them. If you leak any of this information the consequences will be dire..."
The image flickers again, almost as if wondering if you'll comply with the mission. Then it shuts off, killing the signal... The information you have from the trace points to a block-wide area in the DeSalle Residential district... and as you wonder what this means your HARO blinks once, alerting you that it's time to head to the Command Hall.

    Niladaya
Gerrard smiles as he heard Niladaya's story, it almost seems like a sad smile. "That's just about what I expected, but you're wrong on one count. You're not expendable, no one in my outfit it. I couldn't give a rat's ass if you think my unit is a sad operation, but as long as you're here you're a part of it, and you're just as important as every other pilot under my command". He seems to ignore her other insults, and stands up, finishing his coffee.
"You've got a bit of time left, I'll see you in the Command Hall in a bit", and with that he walks out.

    Command Hall
As you arrive in the Command Hall you take in the area before you. The Command Hall is a large, circular room about 40 meters in diameter, and consists of two raised stages. The first, the lecture ring is situated on the outer 20 meters of the room and consists of rows of fine mahogany chairs and tables. The set up is similar to a classroom, and each person has a single desk (with room for a drink, pencils, vid-pads etc.) that curves around the chair. The desks are also bolted in place to keep the layout in order. At the far end of the room the desks end and the Command Dias rises from the floor. A large, retractable podium the Dias serves as an area where the Commander can control the room and dispense the mission parameters with ease.
In the center of the room is the vid-projector. A large, circular computer/ projector the device is almost 5 meters across and resembles a large, squad cylinder. From here battleplans, maps, force dispositions and more can be accessed and displayed to allow the pilots greater detail for their mission.

As you enter the command crew of the Brightsword are sitting at desks near the dias. Carter, Grace and Natalie are grouped together and speaking in low voices and Aaron is near the back of the room, engrossed in his Vis-Con console.
The only other members here are a tall, grizzled and in his 50's with brown hair, streaked with grey and hard green eyes. He is accompanied by three other men, all in ship uniform, and aren't speaking much, just occasionally glancing at those who walk in.
As Kasamir and Hayate enter the Captain hurries off to join the rest of the crew of the Brightsword. You can hear his usual compliments and flirts with the female members of the crew, which they respond to with the almost knee-jerk reaction insults and threats of bodily harm.
Gerrard enters a minute or so later, and walks towards the Command Dias, patiently waiting for the others to arrive.

    Kasimir Albrecht

Kasimir broke out into raucous laughter, knocking over everything on the table, when Hayate was shot down by the waitress. As usual, he didn't pay for anything, but the Captain tended to leave a generous tip to cover his ill-mannered friend. They left with Kasimir serenading Hayate with an talentless rendition of "Woman in Love" by Barbara Streisand.

    ---

By the time they reached HQ, Kasimir had (mostly) gotten it out of his system. He still wasn't dressed in any sort of Arc uniform, but he'd at least lapsed into silence and shown his I.D. to the appropriate security guards. Entering the huge briefing room, he chuckled to himself when Hayate went over to his crew and got more or less a repeat of the waitress. He waited for the Captain to catch his eye and shot the finger-pistol sign at him one more time with a smirk. Then Kas sat down at one of the desks, putting his feet up on it and leaning the chair back probably farther than it was meant to go. With Hayate's rush, it seemed that they'd actually been the first ones here, which was fine for him but now Kas was bored.

He took Niladaya's picture out of his shirt pocket and grinned at it. Now that was what he called a woman! He was looking forward to meeting the real thing.

Glancing around, he notices the other man sitting nearby--presumably one of his new squadmates. "Oh, hey. We haven't flown together before, have we?"

"Eh?" Kasimir pulled his legs off of his desk and looked around. "What's that?" He spotted the younger pilot in the other desk and tucked the photo back in his shirt pocket as he seemed to study him for a moment. And by "seemed", that meant Kas narrowed his eyes at the other pilot and stood there motionless for a good thirty seconds. Time seemed to stretch out...

    SLAM!

"Hey, I like you, pipsqueak!" he decided suddenly, slapping the desk for emphasis. "Hell yeah, you've never flown with me or else you'd know it! Here, thirsty?" With a casual shrug, he pulled a flask of rotgut booze out of his patchless Zeon uniform jacket and tossed it to Asher.
