Is it just me or is the comic getting slightly cut off on the right hand side?
And I wonder what Hinjo's sword is made out of...

Re: OOTS #409 - The Discussion Thread
Either I'm confused or she is..........does she think Shojo was a conspirator or not? If she thought Shojo was tricked by Roy into betraying the guard, why did she kill him and not Roy? This is the first time I've seen her hold two conflicting and wholly incompatible views at the same time. It looks like she might have gone from misguided to TFN...... I think I liked her better as self deluded than crazy.

It's just you, Amotis. Displays fine for me.
So, it would appear Roy enjoys the benefits of Power Attack very much.
Belkar's little kick at the end was a very nice touch.Gallery 1 ● Gallery 2 ● Gallery 3 ● Make Avatars With MS Paint

Re: OOTS #409 - The Discussion Thread
1) Miko makes Gaius Baltar look stable and unconflicted. I mean, DAMN girl. When one looks at where she started ("In the name of Lord Shojo and the Sapphire Guard, I demand to know: WHO REMOVED THE TAG FROM THIS MATTRESS???") and sees where she's come to... well, 'tragedy' just seems insufficient to describe it. She's going to overshadow everyone else as a villain. I can only imagine how hard Xykon's laughing as he scrys on her right now.
2) Hinjo. Is. Awesome. Seriously, his uncle is not five minutes dead and he's already stepping up to the position of leadership like a champ. It looks like he has all of the nobility and intelligence which guided the late, lamented Shojo's actions, but coupled with a heart as pure as Elan's and some serious combat skills. Love the black sword.
3) Belkar's non-last words were absolutely CLASSIC Belkar.

Re: OOTS #409 - The Discussion Thread
I would have prefered to see Belkar make a Hat out of Miko's ugly mug, but I'll settle for Roy slapping her so hard her ancestors felt it. I am pleased

Re: OOTS #409 - The Discussion Thread
Good comic. Hinjo has skyrocketted in my list of favourite characters, and I am glad to see both Roy redeemed a lot, and Hinjo dissing him for the unneeded rudeness. I've got to say, I am not a Miko fan but I find her reaction way too.... predictable, I guess, for OotS. Then again, I guess Miko has always been an example of how not to play a paladin, and now she is becoming an example of how not to play a Fallen paladin.
Way to go Roy: accurately predicting Miko's reaction, and kickin BUTT. However, Belkar's one line was better than your entire speech. You don't get combat bonuses for quips, dude, so do like Hinjo and just leave comments about Treasure Type O right out next time, okay? Your fans beg you.
Hinjo is going to rule the Sapphire Guard beautifully. I forsee wonderful things for Sapphire City now. You know, after they fight off the liche army and the hobgoblins and the now-inevitable Fallen Paladin intent on vengeance. /sigh/, I really hoped Rich wouldn't go that tired path with Miko, but I guess it suits the cliche she has been since day 1. I trust his ability to write it in a compelling and funny way.Last edited by Erk; 2007-02-02 at 08:30 PM.

Re: OOTS #409 - The Discussion Thread
Miko is confused, as Hinjo points out in Intercession. I don't think that she knows what she thinks any more. When she wakes up in prison, she'll probably create an extensive yet simplistic alternative universe in which she walked in on Roy killed Shojo and using mind control voodoo to trick Hinjo into blaming her for it. Makes as much sense as what she's already said so far.

Re: OOTS #409 - The Discussion Thread
After reading it about four more times, and savouring the goodness, here are some of my thoughts.
Seriously, Hinjo showed himself to be a truly brave, compassionate and level-headed individual here. I was really impressed by this words and actions. But it was Roy's streak of pragmatism that saved the day in the end.
As for Miko, she's still showing an amount of confusion and the need to seek guidance - but, whenever she tries to dispel any of her doubts, she leaps to illogical and wrong-headed conclusions. Poor, silly girl.
Belkar in the last frame completed the perfection that was this comic."Courage is not simply one of the virtues, but the form of every virtue at the testing point."

Seriously, what the hell could Roy have hit her with to put her down like that? Did he get a circumstantial bonus for keeping her from committing regicide twice?

Re: OOTS #409 - The Discussion Thread
I'd have to call that a modified bull rush, instead of just pushing them back, he sent her flying....
Also, I love how Belkar always tries to get the last bit in (such as the time when Durkon killed all the goblins, so he just stabbed an already dead one).
Also, Roy's smartassness is right on course "Big dumb fighter indeed."
But yeah, Miko is gone... Shojo is working with the OotS, and they tricked him into confessing to things, and the aliens told him to do it, because of the Group Overmind Daemon... Should have just blamed George Bush... everyone else does (Note: Just a slight bit of political humor please don't start any crazy side conversations on the leadership ability of one Mr. Bush).

Re: OOTS #409 - The Discussion Thread
And Miko proves to continually be emotionally unstable, and completely insane. Good job, Giant.
I noticed some new techniques. First is one that's been being used more in the last two comics, is the sounds - more "thuds, claangs," and that sort of thing. The little blue lines showing the direction of the movement is also good. Though it can sometimes get in the way, it's interesting to read them. You're doing it much more now than you used to, and I like it.
Another new technique: bringing back one-time gags. Obviously, there's things like V's gender, Blackwing, Explosive Runes (and that's just for V!) that are continuous. Then there are little things, that Rich never used to do much, but has started doing a bit more. One time gags brought back - "Roy has boobies," brought back later by Belkar, when asked for his comment on whether they should rescue Elan from the bandits. The "Rooster" thing from Azure City; first from Belkar (complaining), and next from Roy (sounding happy). The most recent two are Belkar bringing up the one-time gag "Treasure Type O" from only one comic ago, and also another one time gag from way back to #111 - the final two panels showing Belkar looking (with a passive face) at an unconscious/dead enemy, and then attacking them because he didn't get to during the fight.Yup.

The Hinjo versus Miko fight-scene was excellent. Of course, the whole comic was, but the fight-scene was that much cooler.

Re: OOTS #409 - The Discussion Thread
Wow, Belkar survived. I'm surprised.
This oughta take the edge off of the highly-devisive "Roy was justified in attacking Miko"/"Roy should not have attacked Miko" debate.
A fine quality strip.

Re: OOTS #409 - The Discussion Thread
Awwwwww man! So close again... Well, now she's not getting reasonable anytime soon.
Anyway, great comic. Hinjo just went high up in my top 10 (well, not 10 actually) of favorite characters for being the only really reasonable person in here. Belkar rocks as always, and Roy has got a + for listening to reason. The fight was awesome here.
Yeah, all in all great comic (even though things went different than i hoped)Last edited by Golt; 2007-02-02 at 08:36 PM.

Re: OOTS #409 - The Discussion Thread
Oh boy, I love when people have the gaps in their logic shoved in their faces. And villains getting punded into walls too. :D
...What, there are people who are sympathic with Miko? I don't get it. . .Not invisible anymore.
