Help developing 3.5 "Avenger" class

I really enjoy the fluff for the 4th edition Avenger class, but really can't stand 4e. Here I'm planning to sorta-convert, sorta-remake the class in 3.5/pathfinder. The only attempts to develop one have been half-assed prestige classes with a heavily defensive focus.

It's sort of a rogue/paladin hybrid with a focus on offense and a weakness in defense. 4e Avengers have a smite evil-like skill that lets them focus their attacks on a single enemy per encounter and gain buffs for it. I'd like to rework this for 3.5 to make the class a bit stronger. They wear light armor and can use all martial weapons (with a bonus for using two handed weapons).

So…any idea for a 3.5 Avenger conversion?

Have a look at the Pathfinder base class, the Inquisitor:

I already know about them. Nah, not what I'm looking for. Inquisitors are a ranged focused class (Avenger is melee focused) and they cast divine spells. I don't want Avenger to be a spellcasting class.

Oath of Enmity is probably the defining feature, so as long as you have that, you're pretty much set.

This has inspired me to write up a 3.5e version of the Avenger. Not sure when it'll be done, but features so far include Oaths, Censures, and "half casting" from Domains.
