    Default Backwards experience

wondering if anyone has developed or can link to existing rules about losing experience rather than gaining it after obtaining XP. Like perhaps RP wise you have some power that is killing you and you are on a quest to remove it. So as the game progresses you lose levels and power making your journey harder as you progress. Templates would actually add levels and you would gain positive level instead of negative levels when applicable.
Thank you Ceika for the custom avatar.

The easiest way I can think of is:

Just use the system's existing mechanic, but apply it negatively. For example in D&D 3.5 for each encounter: calculate the XP based on CR/EL and then subtract it from the character's total. When they reach below the amount of XP needed to rise to their current level, they loose a level and all powers/stats/spells/feats/skills/ect... with it.

The new Mummy game from Onyx Path does something like this. Mummies resurrect with their powerstat at 10, and as time passes and they regain memories and whatnot it lowers until they slumber again, waiting to be resurrected again.
