Reloading and moving to the side, you fire another bolt at one of the drow hunters. This one lands square into his thigh, though not deeply. The drow shouts something in his own language, probably a curse.

The drow leader barks orders in what you all believe is undercommon, the enemies that remain turn to retreat. But before they carry out the order...

    FWOOSH...FWOOSH....FWOOSH...FWOOSH...FWOOSH...

The sound of beating leathery wings drowns out all sound. No one turns away at what emerges... four winged beasts... obviously draconic in origin, similar to wyverns... but their demonic origins are all but obvious as their glaring red eyes pierce through the blackness like an evil flame...They perch at different spots in the cavern, but the beating does not stop. You see nothing at first... But you know it's close. Only the glow from the werelights reveal it's form... the form of a dragon unlke any that has ever been seen in the civilized world...
It's scales almost translucent and as deep as the void. Wisps of shadow trail after it's dark wings as they keep the dragon aloft... In fact, the only thing you clearly see of the dragon are it's eyes, a pale white that gazes down at you.
It speaks, in a deep echoing voice, yet loud enough for all to hear.
"You...You are the hirelings of the Vassal," it says, grinning. "Welcome to the Shrine of the Forgotten One."
It growls. "A part of me hopes you succeed in your venture. It would beehoove me to face the Saintly One at his worst, after hearing of his exploits...
"...Either way, it matters little. I know my task. The voice of my Lord has spoken, and I devoutly follow his will, even as he slumbers beneath the earth, dreaming of the day where all of eberron is cast in oblivion. I am Arawn. And before the end..."
The Veiled Beast rises higher, ascending for the opening. "Before the end, you shall know me... AS WYRMSLAYER'S BANE!!!!"
It shouts a command in draconic. Three of the demoic drakes roar and ascend with him, leaving one behind. "One of my disciples shall be more than enough to deal with you! Farewell, 'Mournland Watch!!!"

Very little is said about the existence of dragons beyond the material plane. However, you cannot help but remember an old text about the ancient myths of Xen'drik that vaguely describe this "Arawn": it speaks of a powerful winged beast born not from this world, but from a world of darkness, a dragon who's breath stole the life force of his foes and could not be seen without daylight. The drow called this beast barra tagnik'zur, which in the common tongue roughly translates to "shadow dragon."

    Draconic demons
Before the civilized world, primordial and powerful beings waged war against each other: among them were the demons and the dragons. There have been shreds of evidence that these demons often captured dragons, particularly red dragons, and bred them with the blood of demons and wyverns. The result was a terrifying "Abyssal Drake" which were meant to be used as steeds during their war with the dragons... but they proved too difficult to tame and they went their separate ways, never heard from again.

Knowledge: the Planes: You could make educated guesses, but you can't say for certain where either of them are from.

One by one, the drow begin an ordered retreat, leaving their leader behind. they made for the end of the bridge, a few of them panicked by the fearsome roar of the beast.
The leader, all and all unfazed by the dragon (in fact more angry than afraid) struggles with the rope. "UNTIE ME, HUMAN!!"

Malvin, more fascinated than afraid, prepares to weave another spell...
But in his focus, is oblivious to what goes on behind him as a strange glow forms... evolving into some dark portal...
    "Oh, Malvin..."
Malvin turns, now mixed with emotions: fear and anger, as a pale, clawed hand grabs the tiefling's arm, and he gazes into the creature's violet eyes. The one who was Cynric smiles and quickly casts his spell.
"Surely this is not your fate?"

Eyeing the rest of the party, he holds up his hand, a dark flame engulfs it. Shadows from within the portal begin to grab Malvin from where he sleeps, pulling him in. The pale one sneers. "Another chance to kill me, I take it?"

You surge forward at full speed, Endbringer raised high as you leap into the air mid way...
"Cynric" simply stares as you charge, remaining perfectly calm and still. The fact that he shows no reaction is unnerving to say the least.
Finally, at the last moment when you bring your blade down, the creature sidesteps the swing, letting it's claws lightly graze the side of Endbringer like a bitter kiss. Your blade lands into the bridge, embedding itself into the stone. With all of your might, you yank it free.

Seeing your leader miss, you take the opportunity to catch the creature while it's eyes are fixed on Halberd, sending a deadly volley with his supposed name on it. It's eyes move to Spiker, the creature grins as two spikes sail past it and the third glances off of some magical field of energy surrounding him.

The pale wizard stares at Halberd dead in the eyes as the warforged pulls Endbringer free. "Such hypocrisy" it says, with a hint of bitterness in it's voice, "to feel such hatred for something you don't fully understand."

Upon hearing the dragon's roar, he just simply shook his head. Now is not the time for you, unholy- He stopped his thoughts as heard a familiar voice. The very sound of it makes his blood boil, but he controlled his rage for later. He turned his body towards the source and saw his former friend for what he truly is. He said nothing to the dark elf, commanding it to tighten it's hold on the drow so that the pressure will cut the air that he breathe, rendering either extreme discomfort or unconscious if the drow has a weak fortitude. The dragon is impossible for a lowly rogue to take down so he will leave it to others who are capable of doing so. Taking out his wand, he aims at the wand at Cynric, expression neutral.

So then, you admitted that you're something else. Your justification of "that which cannot truly understand" would be nonsensical. You spent time with the abjurant. You did not flinch when I bespoke to you about the dangers as you're one all along hiding beneath the skin of "Sir Cynric" which was a fabrication as you are filtering unpleasant nightmares and are one of the dangers all along as you did me a favour by disposing Mr Gallows. You have an innate connection to Malvin whose fate and dreams are tied to you, the source. You have bad acting skills, "Cynric." What is there to understand? You outfit has the tellings of a magician. You could be an undead or a distant relative to him due to similar skin coloration. You might be a resident of a dreamscape since you relish in plaguing the tiefling. Or perhaps even a parasite. But in all consideration, it is the person known as "Malvin" that brings out most joy as if it is your current source of entertainment. But since this is not your "true form" due to your proclamation of your status as being "beyond our understanding," I'd like to test that theory.

The fire of your rays seem to engulf the deceiver, Halberd backs away a little. You flick your wand, ceasing the fire, satisfied that it dealt with the creature promptly...
However the inferno dissipates, revealing that the trickster is unharmed, save for a few tatters at his robe. Your best guess: spell resistance.
"I'm sorry," it said, brushing off a few fires, "was there a point you were trying to make? I seem to have missed it."

Indeed, I am merely confirming my theory, it seems that there are none. Feel free to continue on your script. After all, we are far too beneath to spark your contempt. Kalim comments, trying to buy time so that he could blast the ceiling to create a rock fall to disrupt mage's concentration on the portal or to make the portal vanish so that the wizard will need to waste his magical pool to conjure up another.

i'm hoping that the giant eagle counts as "other animals of the same general grouping" to my new form?

anyway, ask the giant eagle to stay near the group, and attack any drow that come near them
and command my hawk to assist the giant eagle

do i need to make checks (probably diplomacy, and handle animal) to achieve this?

Nah, you're in eagle form. You speak their language.

Accepting commands flawlessly for a change, the hawk and the Giant Eagle make their way towards the group, not wasting time, while you and your eagle continue on the archer. You manage to slash the drow across the stomach, causing him to growl and lean forward. You then fly to the left and allow your eagle to slam into the drow's back, sending him over the edge.

All of the drow continue to descend the bridge, seeking to regroup with the drow on the other side. The only one that remains is the one entangled by the whip, who is cursing loudly in undercommon.
"DAMN IT ALL, OUTSIDER! My warriors can help, but you need to release me!!!"

"Cynric" steps back into the portal. "We'll keep in touch. And fear not. Malvin is safe..."
He grins as the portal begins to close. "...Safer than you are now, at the very least..."
    The portal closes. He's gone.

The drake opens it's maw... flames flicker from within it's mouth...
The drow looks at Kalim. "I hate you."

Kalim quickly rolls off of the side of the bridge and clings to it... But others caught in the blast do not react in time.
The blast of infernal fire ceases, the bridge is blackened. Spiker, your plating is severely damaged, but you are at least conciouse. The same can't be said for Oren and Laucian, fleshed burned and clothed flickering with flames. You cannot tell if they live.

Boreas' form flickers... he begins to fade....

"The... The sun... I see it..."

    Then his voice fades...

    "...it's... beautiful..."

    He's gone.

Both Oren and Laucian are dropped below 0 HP and are unconscious.
