I have a curved scar running across my right index finger resulting from an attempt to cut a baguette whilst drunk. Ten years on, it still hurts when I play the double bass.

That sounds sad. You sound like you like teaching in Scotland. Is there anything you can tell us, or is it something you want to remain private? We're willing to listen if you feel like talking.

So I've been trying to trick myself into drinking coffee by doing half and half with vanilla creamer. Am I doing it wrong?

Good black coffee is alright. Bitter, but good. But then again, I'm somewhat of a purist even when it's unnecessary, so...

A 1:1 ratio is way more creamer than even I use, and I use a lot of creamer. Still, whatever works for you...

    Wat.

    Allow me to instruct you.

    Spoiler: How to do this
    Show
    Method 1 (easy way):
    1. Acquire hot chocolate mix. This is often sold in stores where one can find food items.
    2. Prepare hot water. This can be done in several ways, including but not limited to using a stovetop or microwave on cold water.
    3. Pour hot chocolate mix into hot water and stir until it is dissolved

Method 2 (slightly less easy way):
    1. Acquire cocoa powder, sugar, and milk/cream. These are often sold in stores where food items can be found.
    2. Measure out and mix an appropriate amount of cocoa powder and sugar. A few tablespoons is probably about right, for a small cup of hot chocolate.
    3. Heat milk/cream/water/whathaveyou (to personal taste. Some people like a milk base, some people heat up water and add milk/cream when mixing. Experiment and see what you like). See Method 1 for details on heating liquids.
    4. Thoroughly mix the hot liquid base (milk, water, cream, whathaveyou) with the cocoa powder and sugar.

I would advocate Method 1, as it's far more difficult to mess up, and honestly probably costs around the same, unless you have all the ingredients just lying around already.

    Method 3:
    • Acquire drinking chocolate powder (Nesquik works well)
    • Mix with milk
    • Microwave

Caveat: Too long in the microwave and the milk will gain a "skin" and taste terrible. You'll have to experiment, but the time needed is usually about 2:00 or less.

Actually, now that I think about it, back when I used to volunteer for a place that acted like a food bank, I've seen my colleagues put chocolate milk in the microwave, and drink it when its done.

Although probably not the best way to get hot chocolate, but that is just my opinion.

You shouldn't've told him/her the truth. Shark attack is way cooler than operation (though I suppose that sometimes an operation can be cool).

Technically, it's not correct English grammar. If you were writing out someone saying it that way, there should be a space.

    Shouldn't 've
    Couldn't 've
    Wouldn't 've
    Mightn't 've

Even then, it's still not strictly correct English grammar, it's a colloquialism. The "have" shouldn't be shortened like that.

I keep reading this as "Operation Shark Attack", making it sound like a really b action agent movie.

    ION:
Autumn has finally hit us with full force. Up until yesterday, it remained dry and moderately warm, albeit with very foggy mornings. This night, though, we were hit by our first autumn storm and proper downpour, and today the roads were covered in a fine layer of almost snow-like yellow as all dead pine needles had blown off at once. It's a bit surreal how much the leaves and needles on the ground matter for the autumn feeling.

We're still expecting the great firework of nature as the forests shift colours in full force, but it's undeniable that apart from that, we've entered the time of the great darkening.
