Looking for specific atmosphere music threads
Hi there folks! Whether you know my campaign log or not, I'd like your help with music tracks for 3 occurrences in the game, the first 2 the culmination of a chapter, the last one the start of another. If at all possible, the tracks should not have trouble if looping them (Since I haven't yet found a way to make lists without youtube commercials in between):
Though I ask for kind of very specific concepts, they are the ideal. I'm quite aware that it's unlikely I'll find exactly that, just aiming for it. Please feel free to post any track that you think might be good for the situation at hand.
1) The mentor's shadow:
The party is investigating a prison, in which they found the mentor of one of the characters, who some thought has "crossed over to the dark side", and others thought he was used. Currently he is possessed by a shadow demon- a creature of betrayal, torture, and mockery. there are also shadows in the place, flavored as sort of unresting spirits.
I seek to encompass several things in this battle- despair (A theme running through out this part of the campaign), betrayal, mockery, and if possible- quick twists or... "something unexpected". Would be best to say it. It should be fairly fast paced, but mostly it should feel heart wrenching if possible, a bit of cheap drama if you may...
2) The core of desperation:
In the very end of the chapter, the party faces the ghost of a dwarf, a betrayer, who accompanied them in spirit throughout this place. He has accepted nihilism, the lack of hope, he is utter desperation. Think of Agent Smith from the matrix, only if he was cold, immovable. Or the Borg, or anything that feels cold, emotionless, determined, and bent on it's task.
I seek to encompass here a feeling of "Doom and gloom"/ "Utter despair". If you know of a track that also has some hints of defiance or a fight in it (The PCs), but not as the major theme, ll the better. I think it could be quite hard to find something fast paced for this, but if you know of such a thing, please let me know!
3) From the ashes- victory, but at what price?
Suppose the party manages to survive this (Quite a big IF at the moment) They emerge back to a fort they have just conquered, but with potentially many casualties amongst the troops. They have won, but at a great cost. And they now start fortifying and rebuilding the city, till more will come.
This will be a time between activities, a fairly long time, in which the party may take part in more relaxed activities, and have time to reflect upon what they have gone, where will they go, and possible changes.
I am aiming at a fairly mellow background music, soothing if possible, evoking loss to some degree, evoking victory and rising to another. the overall tone however should be something of renewal, advancing, growing and such.

Re: Looking for specific atmosphere music threads
Considering the battle themes, I'll just throw my propositions together, since it's a bit hard to distinguish between the two specific flavors:
Vision of Escaflowne:
Black Escaflowne (this one is a bit uneven, when it comes to tension),
Dance of Curse,
Machine Soldiers,
Invasio of Torushina (a rather slow one, but it might be nice for an intro into the first fight)
Hellsing Ultimate:
Gradus Vita (not very fast, but the ambience is really solid),
Feuerkreuz
Berserk:
Murder (a bit of a slow starter, but it nicely builds up the tension),
Monster (a shame, it's so short),
Ghosts (a bit odd, but quite unsettling)
Ballade of Puppets (from GitS: Innocence; I couldn't find it, but it's worth checking)
As for the overpayed victory:
Hold your life (from Ragnarok Online 2),
Time (from Inception; a bit too well known probably, but really good),
The Leaving - The Search (from Conan the Barbarian; this one IMO hits the nail perfectly)In a war it doesn't matter who's right, only who's left.

Re: Looking for specific atmosphere music threads
Fire Emblem Awakening is really good for this; to boot, most of the tracks for it exist on Roll20, for anyone who uses that.

"Id" has multiple variations that are wider in mood, to boot.

Depending on the flavor of despair, Lament of the Highbourne comes to mind. http://youtu.be/HuInLSzY8rs

Re: Looking for specific atmosphere music threads
Both are good pieces, but not for what I have in mind Unfortunately. I may use them for other stuff. I think the Dance of Curse could be good to setting up the mood for the session, as we gather for example.
Machine Soldiers,
Invasio of Torushina (a rather slow one, but it might be nice for an intro into the first fight)
Berserk:
Murder (a bit of a slow starter, but it nicely builds up the tension),
Short is no problem, There's the infinite looper page. But it's a bit too monotone. THe second one just doesn't fit what I'm aiming at. Feels quite otherworldly all of a sudden.
As for the overpayed victory:
Hold your life (from Ragnarok Online 2),
Time (from Inception; a bit too well known probably, but really good),
The Leaving - The Search (from Conan the Barbarian; this one IMO hits the nail perfectly)
Time is the music I play while working on sessions or studying! Most of my group don't know it well. Hmmm... Might work.
It's interesting you bring the Conan soundtrack- the start of my group's chapter was with a track from there as well (Atlantean sword) So this might be a befitting ending as well. And with the same theme. Though now I'm thinking of using the Atlantean Sword as well... Hmmmm... Need to decide.
Thanks a lot! While I don't know all of these, and not all fit, some will do I believe, and the rest I could use on other occasions, I'm sure. So again- thanks!
I think we may have quite different tastes. These sound a bit... lacking in focus. Great as a background music, but I don't quite get an emotional response listening to them. But then again, different people have different tastes in music. THank you all the same for the suggestions!
Hmmm... this sounds more sad than desperate. (Well, at least to me). I prefer music without vocals, for otherwise it distracts my players too much. Thanks though!Check my extended signature
