Interesting Character Ideas

I noticed some players have a really tough time coming up with character backgrounds. I was hoping to start a thread to help inspire, and give example of good interesting backgrounds. Feel free to post, or steal anything that you have come across. Also comment on anything you like or dislike, and add suggestion on how to make the backgrounds better.

The first background I made was for a Lawful Good Paladin, I don't remember what his god was unfortunately. He was a powerful Paladin, that had become vein, and rash. He had forgotten the teaching of his god, and had fallen so far from grace, his god punished him. His powers were removed and his memory was erased except for what he had done to get punished. He had to re-learn the teaching of his church and live as close to them as possible, in order to get back into the good graces of his god.
