Well, Gwynfrid's link and my own quick research suggests they're highly symbolic, at least....But let me see here.

Assuming the statistics division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN is accurate....The food supply quantity for bananas in Germany for 2011 was 10.30 kg/capita/year, whereas in the US for the same year it was 10.78 kg/capita/year.

So...maybe they're a little less popular in Germany than they are in the United States, or at least were a few years ago? o_o

I'm only aware of a single Bandana (as opposed to bandanas), so I don't think I can get you an appropriate answer to this question.

To the thread? Sure. We've got "banana jokes" as one of the tags, there's some leeway there.

Well here in Germany the very limited supply of bananas in socialist east germany is legendary. And subject of a lot of jokes.

I think it's a thing lots of people will think, but I also think it's only the newest form "Why is the Order dealing with anything other than rushing to the gates, argh!" is taking. Rich has refuted that entire concept before, and hopefully that refutation is still indexed.

I'm guessing this quote about set-up scenes and reader criticism (while 1016 was is the active comic) flew by and was overlooked. We've got a similar quote in the Index already, but I think this one conveys a lot more about how the Giant approaches narrative structure.

There is a certain pattern to many of the Giant's quotes:

Reader: The plot is not following the path required by my tiny imagination and/or the pace is too slow.
Giant: stop complaining or stop reading. I ain't for turning.

I think this new quote can essentially just be rendered down to "...the point of the scene was to get the heroes on board with the conflict that would form the main body of the book." Otherwise, I think it's redundant. Maybe worth including as a see also on the original, but not otherwise particularly useful.

There's a distinct feeling of redundancy between the two quotes. However, the new one does have something extra: it reveals a lot of the Giant's intentions for the present book, more so than anything I can recall from his past comments. Maybe this revelation is more of a confirmation, since it was fairly clear already that this book was going to be about the Durkon vs "Durkon" conflict. Still, to me, that's where the value of the quote lies. When the book is over, then we can consider it for removal.

Agreed. I don't think it reveals any new insight on The Giant's general thinking, but it says enough about the current story line and where it's going that it should be included.

    Merry New Year!

OK, it looks like there's general agreement to include it if we're using it specifically in reference to the current arc, so that brings us up to....

    Redcloak Getting Footwear
In the new art style, doing three toes with the skin tone "looked weak and unthreatening....So starting now, armored goblin-types get nice heavy boots instead. "
#1013 11/24/2015 Tentative, appears will be included without vote.
On the Title "Blood Runs in the Family"
It's a composite of two synonymous expressions, "'[Trait] runs in the family' and '[trait] runs in the blood'".
#991 06/27/2015 Tentative, appears will be included without vote.
About Roy Fighting HPoH ( ) at the Godsmoot
It's the beginning of the arc, not the climax of it.
#1016 12/19/2015 Tentative, appears will be included without vote.

It's been almost two months since the last update, so we'll be going through another update cycle in three days. If anyone wants to make their position on inclusion/wording/titling known, now's probably a good time to do it.

Personally, I don't see any need to include it. It will be pretty much self-evident in a few strips, and become more obvious with every strip.

Not that I object particularly if people want to include it.

If that's the only new takeaway from the quote, I say leave it out. We can say with 100% certainty that it will become redundant in time.

The fact that we are early in the arc can be estimated now by comparing the number of strips/pages so far to the length of previous books. A few years from now, the fact that this wasn't the climax will be obvious.

The same as the second one quoted by Jasdoif here:

I argued above that the two are mostly the same, save for the projection of the story arc, ie. this book is going to be all about Durkon and the HPoH. This is new information: Even though it was guessable, it wasn't certain. This is why I recommend inclusion, not as a "see also" but as its own quote, in the Story / General Information section.

Yes, it will. But the time in question will be when the book is finished, likely well over one or even two years from now. That's plenty of time for the quote to be useful.

More likely, the time in question will be within 10-15 strips. That's more than the space from #691 to #697, a similar situation from the last book. (it appeared that the Order was at Girard's Gate, and the book would be preoccupied with the defense thereof, but within 5-6 strips it became clear that there was a great deal more to go).

In fact, I'd bet the next one or two strips will be something comparable to #695-7.

I don't think this analogy works; it would, if #697 told us more than just what the plot line is not. Per the Giant's own analogy, #1016 is equivalent to #763. #763 made it clear what BRitF was going to be about (in retrospect... There may have been speculation about other possibilities back then), and #1016 is intended to do the same for the present book. Except, obviously, the Giant had to lay it out in plain words, with the quote in question.

I think "had to" is a stretch. People have been complaining about "the pace" and "Durkon stuff" since the book began, and every time numerous other posters have responded essentially as the Giant has.

Also, some of my reluctance about this quote comes about because I think the Giant is right about "veiled criticisms of the update schedule", which in turn means that this quote is straying towards the moderation/single reader rebukes that we specifically avoid including.
