The Aboleth Elder Evils are a specific group of god-like entities. The Elder Evils in the books are a subtype of creatures. So they're more implicitly different things than explicitly but they're defined quite differently. It might be theoretically possible to stat out the former as the latter, but they aren't really the same thing. It's just a case of them using the same term for two things. I think the LoM Elder Evils date back to the TSR days but can't really be sure LoM did a good job of drawing from the older editions with modification.

Eh. The LoM Elder Evils are basically deities, but the WotC writers didn't want to call them gods because they're spooky alien gods so they must be inferior to our good and pure human and human-like gods.

they are many times older than human deities, don't need worshipers, and by mearly being present in the material plane they effect it forever. Yeah, probably just demigods or something.

Then again one is Nyarlathotep or Hastur (neither a full fledged god) and another is Cthulhu (poser) or Shub-Niggurath (who fits the elder god motif).

The real thing is they gave enough hints to make them interesting but didn't define them well enough that you can use them in various ways. Similar to how in 2e they didn't stat out gods, they statted out their avatars which were small fractions of them and 20th level in multiple classes and knew all arcane spells and were 90% immune to magic.

Ooh... Regulars as Aspects. Or just as Monsters in General.

Eh, Elder Evils aren't complete if they aren't statted as monsters, so monsters are still less work.

Sandbox Goliath (Strike) [Mind-affecting]
Level: 8th.
Prerequisites: 3 Sandbox Goliath maneuvers.
Initiation Action: Standard action.
Range: Melee attack.
Target: 1 creature.
Saving Throw: Will partial.
Duration: 1 round and permanent.

Weaving your blade in an eldritch pattern you strike into the heart of your foe, using your blade as an astral conduit to the dread demiplane wherein dwells Lord_Gareth's true form, causing your target to glimpse it for but the briefest of moments. When you initiate this maneuver make a melee attack. If you hit your target must make a Will save (DC 18 + Cha in 3.5 Initiation modifier in PF*). If they fail they take 1d6 Charisma and Wisdom damage, +6d6 damage from the sheer mental trauma, and are stunned for 1 round and left permanently afraid of you suffering a -2 to attack rolls and opposed checks made towards/against and CMD/CMA against you; they are allowed to re-make this saving throw whenever they encounter you in the future up to 1/day to end this penalty, otherwise it can only be removed by erasing their memory of the event. Even if they succeed on their save they take 1d6 Wisdom and Charisma damage and +6d6 damage from mental trauma.

On a more serious note, the skill-ranks modifier aspect of that ability is really strong. I'd limit it to be only usable when actually in combat, so that if the character wants max ranks in everything they have to at least frame everything as a fight of some sort.

You're right there, the skill ranks one either needs to be removed or limited to only usable in combat.

That's a lot better than where I'm at right now. Six alarms in fifteen-minute intervals somehow failed to get me out of bed in time for my exam this morning, so I'm scrambling to find out if/how I can make it up. It's proving really difficult to not completely flip out and enter full-panic mode at this point
