One of the only days I'm up at 4, I get a happy coincidence! I was honestly expecting the vampire's whispering to be under more scrutiny by Roy and Bellar after the initial rejection. Occam's Razor and all that.

Also, a question; is the high priest the most powerful cleric of a god, or is it a more formal appointed position? I get the impression Durkon was not the high priest of Thor before his death, and also that he was likely a higher level cleric than current high priest.

I'm guessing that Not-Durkon whispered in the doorkeeper's ear that he's a servant of Hel, and given that the servant has to be neutral, allowed him in, no vampire shenanigans required. Calling it here and now.

This will be awesome. I wonder what kind of politics Hel will try to bring on the agenda of the meeting.

Now that's interesting; when talking to Gontor HPoP is not even trying to hide his lack of accent, he definitely ID's himself there. Will Roy Notice!? Will he finally make the leap of logic?

At least this time when Belkar sneaks off alone, he doesn't leave a trail of guardsman blood and has a rampant paladin following him.

    It's an improvement, I guess.

Think that's pretty much a given, esp with what he said in the last panel.

Final panel pretty much confirms it. Durkula was in a "Circle of Truth", which I guess is a cleric spell (real or homebrew) which forces those within to tell the truth. So, Durkula didn't try. He just said that he was the High Priest of Hel and that as a Northern God(ess) she had a right to send a representative to the conclave. The final panel is basically the exarch complaing Hel didn't RSVP.

HPoH is starting to play his cards! I'm guessing the other High Priests should be higher level than him, right? So Belkar's worries about the other priests' safety are probably unfounded; the meeting should be purely diplomatic. The Snarl will still be a pretty scary bargaining chip though...

As I thought, HPoH has his entry here. Roy thought Durkon would have, with rights for bodyguard. Funny.

And Roy doesn't get more suspicous than than about what "Durkon" may have whispered? Really? Oh Roy...

Excellent loophole: I may have to tell the truth in this circle, but I can still whisperwhisperwhisper...

Hel's endgame is very hard to guess. After all, HPOH is actually invited and welcome to the Godsmoot, and he simply hitched the easiest ride he could find. Maybe there isn't a hidden motive after all? That would be some major trolling from Giant!

I definitely agree that Durkula just identified himself as high priest of Hel and that the "receptionist", being strictly neutral, did not have qualms about letting him in.

The question is now what will happen.

Will Hel go on with whatever her plan was to humiliate and subjugate Thor and the rest?

Will Hel find out about the latest developments regarding the snarl and the urgent threat it now poses to creation itself?

(As a matter of fact, it looks to me that Hel is somehow "cut off" from the rest of the northern gods... She may have been present during the initial appearance of the snarl, and may have had a hand in creation 2.0 -- but it may well be that she is not right now aware that the seals that kept the snarl out are being broken and that the snarl is making incursions into reality again... O.o)

Maybe Hel is in for a big shock when the reason for the meeting is revealed.

Love the backgrounds for this strip ^^. Looks really great.

Also, it's really nice to see Belkar being useful for once :D. Without also messing things up, that is. Even if he does die, I want to see how this plays out.

Belkar never trusted the HPoH. I figure that he is looking to get solid evidence to convince Roy that this is not Durkon.

The problem is that the Moot is probably going to have all kinds of wards to prevent people from sneaking around like Belkar is trying to do.

First panel, big guy on the left, is that the first goliath we've seen in OOTS? The wiki doesn't mention any.

Isn't that what always happens when the halfling rogue ranger party member goes off alone?

Loved the nod to Roy's knowledge of architecture, Gothic and otherwise.

Judging from Belkar's last attempt to battle a powerful cleric, even though the speculation has been done to death, had a Resurrection spell cast on it, then that process repeated at least twice, I really do think this is where it's finally gonna happen. Other comments: The "make a buttload of skill checks" comment callback was artful, and I have one more speculation that somehow Hel and HPOH's plan somehow doesn't actually involve ATTACKING the clerics. He's powerful, but I seriously doubt he's powerful enough to overcome as many casters as are going to be in the room--and all High Priests as well, meaning at least a few and probably quite a few of them will be close enough to his level to be a threat, or even STRONGER than him. Makes me look forward to seeing what's REALLY gonna happen!

Probably not, which is a bit disappointing. HPOH was so excited about his plans he dropped his accent before even whispering to the guy ("But not for me" would likely be "But na fer me," if it was the real Durkon). Not only that, "Durkon" straight up overrode his leader's orders, which is a thing the real Durkon would do almost never. That should've been a dead giveaway to Roy, really.
