Mathwin is able to locate some options for the incoming rain. Ahead, he see's a few trees that could provide basic cover for the rain, although this won't provide much safety from lighting.

Mat takes off his new glasses and gets the water drops off. Looking with his new glasses, Mat is able to spot a section of rock ahead, that might serve as an alcove. There seems to be enough space for both Mathwin and Bill, and is on high enough ground to not have flooding issues, unless the storm become substantially worse.

Running towards the cavern, Mathwin hears the wind and rain picking up heavier with every passing gust. So close to the shore, he sees waves crashing against the rocks. The sailors in Absolom are probably quite busy with secure the ships, and Mathwin hopes that Mistress Oppara is safe.

He leads Bill to the alcove, which luckily is located far enough above the mainland, so that there should no worries about flooding or lightning strikes. Bill seems overall un-phased by the rain and lighting, and Mat finds a stalagmite to tie bill reins to. Taking a second to breath and dry off, Mathwin observes his area, to make sure that he is safe for now. In securing the area, Bill has already gone to sleep, tired from the day’s journey. Mat takes a second to eat some rations and gather his strength.

The rain seems to carry on for awhile, which bores Mathwin. He plays with the idea of juggling his Magic Missiles around, much like a Fool would. Surely this could be a good tactic to surprise an unknowing foe, but Mat can’t quite figure out how to maintain the missiles without casting it multiple times. Defeated and still bored, Mathwin begins to walk around the cave. The smell of rain covers the cavern, and as he gets a little deeper towards the back, he is unable to see extremely well. But something does raise his attention; as he gets closer to the back of cavern, the sound of rain should lessen, but he can clearly hear rainfall coming from within the back of the cavern. Mathwin concludes there must be an open section of rock somewhere, but as he goes deeper, he finds a wall but no open rocks.

The sound of heavy rain continues to be heard from the back of the cave.

Mat draws his wand. Using a combination of Mage Hand and Light, Mathwin illuminates and levitates a stone from the ground. Now that he has a better source of hands-free light, he searches, slowly and carefully, for the source of the rain sound. Using his other two cantrips in conjunction, he is methodical in his search while maintaining his awareness.

The area being well-lighted, Mathwin sees the wall he stands in front of. There is normal condensation on the wall, but as Mat looks around, he catches a glimpse of something shiny in the reflection of his glasses. Standing completely still, he is able to determine where in the wall the shine is coming from. As he turns, he is clearly able to see a hole in the wall.

Carefully looking through the hole in the wall, Mathwin sees a small gem laying on the floor of a cavern behind the wall of this cave. Through further inspection, Mathwin sees that this wall actually has a door built into the stone. At first glance, it seems like it could be pushed open with a good nudge.

Mat bites his lip, as he sometimes does when he's nervous. Checking to make certain Bill is a safe distance away from the door, he pulls a waxed leather tube from his satchel. Unstoppering the tube, Mat pulls out a parchment scroll. Eyes briefly flashing amber, he intones the final few syllables of the spell and summons an Unseen Servant. Mat stands back and addresses the Servant in a clear, loud voice. "Please open that door, pick up the gemstone inside and place it within my kerchief, here." Mat lays a well-used white cloth on the ground.

Mathwin carefully molds his magic from his scroll, to a somewhat corporeal form. Mat is able to see a shift in his vision as his unseen servant bows towards him. Mathwin quietly commands the unseen servant.

Standing back, Mathwin suddenly seems dust start to fall from where to door stood. In a fluid, but slow motion, the door opens. Constantly checking for traps and other events that made occur, Mathwin actually sees a basic spring trap; a knife attached to a stick, tied back. Luckily, it seems to have been already sprung. Taking the time to thoroughly investigate the area, Mathwin orders the servant to pick up the gem and put it into the handkerchief.

The rain pouring outside is a sound that Mathwin cannot quite get out of his head. Staying alert, he waits patiently as the servant moves towards the gem. Suddenly, he sees the gem being lifted. Mathwins’ muscles tense and eyes squint as the gem is lifted. Bracing for impact, he holds holds his breath, hoping he didn’t just make a mistake.

The servant places the gem in the handkerchief, and bows.

Mathwin conjures 4 dancing lanterns from his tattoo, which seamlessly jump around the room, give light to each wall, as Mathwin inspects.

Illuminating the room, he can see the rock walls 40ft high covering the sands beneath him. The room is wet and each footstep echos. Looking around, the walls seems to have been mined and broken at points. On the walls, he sees rope, moldy wood, some tools, brooms, an anchor, and broken barrels, with some cups and a broken table laying on the ground. Trying to think logically, nothing appears to be specifically out of place here, but Mat keeps looking around. Looking carefully around the room, he see’s another door wide open.

He stows the gemstone in his saddlebags, along with his pipe, dice, pipeweed and most of his camping supplies. He grabs his crossbow and quarrel of bolts, throws his rope over his shoulder and makes sure his scroll cases, wands, and spell components are all secure on him. Heading back to the "door", Mat cautiously walks into the room and looks about.

Carefully moving down the north hallway, Mathwin is able to see that the hallway is blocked by a cave in. Looking around, Mathwin sees that the ceiling of the cavern looks to have broken rock, which must have fallen down at some point. Trying to find a way around, Mathwin can see that there is a room behind all these rocks. Many of the rocks on the top seem smaller and movable, but the larger rocks on the bottom are much to large to consider moving. Mathwin might be able to squeeze through if he took the time to move the rocks.

He figures that the rain doesn't sound like it is letting up anytime soon so he might as well see if there is anything of worth in this cavern. Making sure to avoid any damage to the caverns stability, he carefully moves rock after rock.

After a few minutes of digging and moving, Mathwin is able to comfortably squeeze past the rocks and carefully step into the room the rocks were blocking. Inside the room, he sees a table, with candle and a chair in the middle of the room. On the wall he sees sea maps and charts with detailed marks that point to an "X".

As Mathwin begins to examine the map on the wall, he suddenly grabs the paper a little too roughly, and the map begins to crumble, probably due to the wet environment it's been living in. Frustrated about a potential treasure map being gone to waste, he examines the room for any signs that life has been here recently.

Mat wipes a large layer of dust off of the table, which seems to be broken, and then examines the legs. He can see that a bit of wood has been broken off, but mold has begun to grow on the broken parts. The pieces of broken wood are still laying on the ground, so it would appear that no one has been in here for a least a few weeks, if not months.

Kicking the pile of clothes, Mathwin is able to successfully tell that they were not hiding any traps. Feeling accomplished, Mathwin takes a good look at the chest.

The chest seems fairly normal, if not rusted from the damp sea air. The lock seems intact though, but Mathwin will probably be unable to break without a strong force.
Mathwin thinks about opening the lock on the chest with a concentrated bolt of force energy. It looks far too strong to pry open and Mat isn't a locksmith. The sound though, that would present a problem. . . Mat layers cloth from the pile in the corner over the lock, then tears a tiny hole in the fabric to expose the lock. The hole should provide a target for the spell, and the cloth should deaden the sound of the blast and catch any shrapnel. Mat pulls on his training and instinctively fires a single bolt of amber energy at the lock.

Ever careful, Mathwin raises his hand again and raises the chest open with mage hand, standing far enough back to hopefully avoid any traps. The chest lies open in front of Mathwin, and when he is sure no trap has been sprung, he moves in to investigate. Eyes opening while he looks upon the chest, Mathwin is quite happy he made the effort to open the chest.
