The problem is that I don't believe Ardon would behave differently to Odi if he wasn't influenced by the spirit.

Maybe he would feel slightly bad about it, but I don't see Ardon sacrificing himself or even just accepting death.
The justification of "better one dead then two" fits Ardon's character before the spirit.

Maybe it because unlike everyone else he has killed. Odi was the closest thing he had to a friend and that why there is a slight amount of remorse for killing him instead of none at all like the norm.

Well, the nightmare spirit was introduced in ch. 5, right now we are in ch. 20.

In the first five chapters, Ardon consistently behaved like a complete butt-opening, including the killing of innocent npcs and even chandreas adventure group.

In the 15 chapters with the spirit, he continued doing ruthless immoral things but I can hardly say he was worse than before.

Having an attack of conscience is new. I would almost say that pretending to regret what he did is part of a plan to get on the sucker's odies good side so that they can work together in order to escape... But then, this act would mean that he suddenly understands conscience and social+emotional manipulation. That would be just as shocking new as a real conscience.

Imo there was a bit of a difference but yeah not a great one. Maybe being in the space influences him in weird ways.

He did try to sacrifice himself for Peanut that one time. He's always been an evil little monster, but the spirit definitely made him worse as time went along.

Despite what I wrote earlier, I don't mind if Ardon will develop some sort of conscience.

Retconning might be a bit annoying, but it's a reasonable price to pay to develop the old Ardon into something that doesn't constantly grind my patience.

Agreed. The comic is really at its best when Ardon is at least semi-sympathetic. Plus, it's good to have Odie back and interacting with someone besides the Nightmare Spirit. Hopefully we're on an uptrend.

    Another new one.

Yessssss. Ardon's fairly competent, at least among his peers (whether he'd call em that or not). Ardon is frequently HOW the party got things done.

He just never quite grasped that Odie is WHY they got things done. He's not... bright, cunning, effective, pick your favourite but gosh darnit he REALLY cares.

I'm choosing D) All of the above.

Let's hope that gets Ardon's head back in the game.

I think the take away Ardon will get from this is not why Odie did that, but how Odie did that. If Odie still has his powers, or possibly different one from being in the mindscape for a while, than perhaps Ardon can use that to figure out a plan after all.

It's going to be pretty lame if they get out of this situation by literal Deus Ex Machina.

I think blackmailing god is a good use of a deus ex machina. This way the protagonists still play an active part in being saved.

Meh. Once you introduce Deus Ex Machina you can't really ever have tension again. Nothing the protagonists or antagonists do matters when you know God is just going to step in to fix things if they mess up.

Not only do they leave it ambiguous as to whether or not that is what actually happened, but I doubt "I have a plan that will make sure everyone gets what they deserve" is something that could be repeated too often anyways. Especially given that it is doubtable whether or not Ardon even knows what everyone really deserves in the first place.

Plus the "Dungeon Master" will only intervene in ways that could be perceived as luck. If a character finds themselves in a situation were no amount of luck can save them then they are screwed. It is no different than when other characters in other stories get lucky.

It checks out. Odie is the first and only person we see Ardon want to hang out with. Remember Ardon was essentially coerced into letting Ell into the party and only let Fortyfive, Peanut, and Tuuvi in on the hopes that they would die, leave, or get kicked out. But Odie? Ardon wanted to team up with Odie.

Ardon is so much better at psychologically damaging Odie than the nightmare spirit.

As far as the latest tweet from LSN goes: I am surprised to hear there were people that the latest weekend fake out worked on. I, at least, knew better than to think it would be that easy for the Nightmare spirit to win given that Ardon believed Odie could do it. Ardon only has false confidence in himself, when he is confident in other people it is genuine and should be listened to.

Also, most authors aren't going to reintroduce a major character just to immediately kill them again.

Actually my guess was that Odie's death was part of the plan.
Odie cannot be raised while his spirit is captured, if REALLY dead, it's just a matter of finding a cleric.
And if the Odie could also on the way supply a minute of distraction, even better.

I would expect Odie's death here to mean he's permanently, irrevocably, impossible to raise, because his spirit no longer exists to be raised. For Odie to be raiseable after this his spirit needs to be free.

I think this part of Ardon's plan is for Odie to actually kill the nightmare spirit, thereby giving it what it deserves and simultaneously freeing Odie to give him what he deserves. At least, that's the "if everything goes perfectly" branch of the plan.

Pretty sure Odie's been dead for a while. He can't be raised because he's under some sort of soul trap effect.
