I would expect Odie's death here to mean he's permanently, irrevocably, impossible to raise, because his spirit no longer exists to be raised. For Odie to be raiseable after this his spirit needs to be free.

Maybe, but when it comes to questions like "what happens to a soul when it's eaten by a monster" in a D&D logic world is the kind of question only the story teller can answer.

I was probably wrong, but you have to admit, raising Odie's confidence to make him fight, knowing that he will lose, and counting on it to bring him back does have the "Ardon plan" vibe.

I'm enjoying this arc much more than most of the previous. It's good to have wise-ass snarky Ardon back instead of the evil emo kid.

Y'know when Ardon said that his plan would make sure that everyone would get what they deserved it made me wonder if Ardon actually knew what he deserved. Because I think most people can agree that what Ardon deserves is not a good thing for Ardon. Now I can't help but have this crazy idea that Ardon is fully aware of this and that is the plan. That Ardon plans to lose consciousness just before the explosions so that the nightmare spirit dies from the explosions. This would kill Ardon, the Nightmare Spirit, and Fortyfive which is what all three of them deserve. The death of the nightmare spirit would release Odie's soul which is what he deserves.

Surely it is crazy to think that Ardon would create a plan that sacrifices himself, right? Unless I suppose he excepts this Heroic sacrifice to result in Ell and Odie coughing up the funds to get him raised.

I think this is a death that will be permanent. Not Ardon's mind you, I have already mentioned how that is likely to go, but Fortyfive's. Fortyfive betrayed the party without a heroic sacrifice arguably/potentially redeeming him. Even if his computer master could raise the dead I doubt even it would want to. To his master Fortyfive would just be considered a failed experiment and his failed invasion would just be a setback to what I assume to be a VERY patient individual.

Which leaves no one left that would want Fortyfive to come back to life.

The party also has contact with a close family friend that is also a high level cleric. However the comic has already shown that raise dead doesn't always work.

In 4E, Raise Dead is a ritual spell - anybody with the appropriate feat or class feature to have access to rituals can cast it. Ardon and Odie's souls are going to be entangled with the Nightmare Spirit, however, so they're not going to be raisable unless Ardon's plan included a step for him getting killed. 45 would potentially be raisable, although I don't know if there's anybody around who would *want* to raise him at this point.. and I wouldn't be too surprised if his soul/soul-equivalent is claimed by the central computer of his manufacturing facility.

Y'know I was starting to wonder why Chandea would care so much about Ardon's life specifically. Now I am still wondering why Green Mask cares so much about Ardon's life, but at least now I know we are meant to.

Anyways my bet is on her being Ardon's sister or something. Also we now have someone that would want to bring Ardon back to life given that I don't see a way for Ell to find out about his sacrifice.

I’m guessing that the green mask lady is the lord of drakes’ daughter. She’s a character who could reasonably expect Ardon to recognize her, and might feel guilty about him being blamed for her death.
We know from Odi’s talk with Jeskin that there’s more to what happened with the lord of drakes’ daughter than we’ve been told, apparently Ardon was supposed to do something, but Jeskin was interrupted by Ardon’s arrival before he could tell Odi what it was.
I’m guessing that Ardon was supposed to marry her but she died or it appeared that she died somehow and Ardon was blamed.

It's a fantasy setting, not a sci-fi one, so I'd imagine it's tied more to a draconic aspect of the soul than actual genetics. At least that would be my GM ruling if this came up in one of my games.
