Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
And Roy learned something! Whoo! Hopefully that'll be enough of an edge though...

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
Roy's determined look is so cool in the penultimate panel. I like the slashing motion of Roy's sword before that, too. And we have a name for it now!

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
Ooh, interesting. On one hand, I don't think Durkon has any of the buffs up that make clerics so exceptionally dangerous in Melee (unless he cast them before the vote, just in case), but he is still a vampire...

Finding comic before twitter link...
Ha, somehow I find myself rooting for the underdog, which would be Durkon at that point, just because.

Spellsplinter -- nice.
Let's hope that Roy lives long enough to use it a second time.Last edited by Bulldog Psion; 2015-09-08 at 01:50 PM.

Sweet moves Roy! Anyone know how a human fighter would do against a vampire cleric whose spells won't work properly?

Wow, this had my heart actually go faster. Nice action. Nice angst. And we finally know the name of Roy's grandpa feat.

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
Agreed, finally having a name for it is wonderful. Even more wonderful is that it's the infamous "Maneuver of Legends", apparently, since Wrecan (a presumably powerful warrior) knows of it, but doesn't know it.

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
So Roy does have the feat, and it's named "Spellsplinter". But HPoH is going to counter-attack with level drains now. Fortunately for Roy, if he wins, he's in a room full of people willing and able to cast Restoration.
If he wins. The suspense builds. This ... is my signature finishing move!

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
And there's the trick Roy's grandfather taught him--the Spellsplinter maneuver--somehow it's a technique no one alive knows but is readily recognizable.

Sure, I can roll with that.
It was nice to see Roy have Durkon on the ropes for a few seconds, now it's getting serious.Last edited by Basement Cat; 2015-09-08 at 01:57 PM.

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
Roy did amazing in this comic. I was wondering when he would use the feat. Come on Roy, realiz that the true Durkon wouldn't get rid of his accent or say this kind of stuff.

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
I really should have seen that slam attack coming just from the chapter title, but I didn't so I just shouted at my screen 'The pun, the pun!' as if that was supposed to do something
Nice to see the feat in action, that the other body guards not only know about it, but that it shouldn't work as he really shouldn't know it.
Did Roy used to wear light armor or something? Because they should have moved at the same speed if he was in anything heavier after all.

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
It's a toss-up. Vampire cleric can still level drain. Fighter gets more and better attacks.
We still haven't seen Roy's sword proc the green glow. That is the Giant's next plot twist, I suspect. But first Roy has to get even angrier, I suspect.
Someone is going to spill the beans about the entity in Durkon's skull next strip, I suspect, and that will be critical. Also, we don't keep seeing Durkon for nothing. Just because it's impossible for him to do anything doesn't mean he won't, for he is Durkon, and he. will. never. stop. trying. This ... is my signature finishing move!

Wow. I'm wondering how the vampire knew Roy had that move. Probably saw him practicing it on the Mechane or something.

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
I, too, have been waiting for Roy to use that move. But looks like I'm still waiting for him to catch on that that's not Durkon.
(Though to be fair, the middle of a battle isn't the best time to be reasoning out these things).
Interesting that the HPoH has discarded his staff when going into melee like this. He's used it before as a weapon. Doubt it means anything, though.

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
A amazing battle. Now we have a name for Roy’s new feat. And sure, no one alive knew this feat until now. Meeting your dead grandfather and training with him sure has it's advantages.
I get the feeling that his „I'm Durkon in evil-mode” taunts might be the HPoH’s undoing. But it seems he is changing gears strategy-wise after being hit by the spellsplinter.
Durkon gets the price for the best line. Or at least the funniest."If it lives it can be killed.
If it is dead it can be eaten."

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
I don't understand why Durkula is bothering to fight Roy at all... assuming he wants Hel's plan to succeed, why not:
- Spider climb up the nearest wall;
- Stand on the ceiling taunting Roy for a minute or two;
- Observe the demigods' representatives arrive to break the tie in favor of Hel; and
- Watch from a safe distance on the outer planes next to Hel's side, while everyone—including Roy—is killed by the gods in the unmaking of the world.
- (Profit!)

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
Just noticed: HPoH dropped the staff when Roy hit him the second time. So he's doing slam attacks, yes; but what happens if Roy sunders the staff? Or someone else picks it up?
Spider Climb gives a climb speed of 20'. If I'm HPoH, I may not want to try that; Roy can jump, even without a ring, and his strength with the Giant's Strength belt gives him at least a +6 to the roll, plus he may have put some skill points into it (it's one of the few choices available to a fighter). Tall man with great sword can reach 12' easily without jumping at all. The extra 8' of vertical leap requires a 32 DC, possible if Roy's put skill points into it, likely if he's maxed out the skill.Last edited by Shining Wrath; 2015-09-08 at 02:07 PM.

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
Alright, the staff is no longer a threat. For now. However, This may end badly.. I'm still feeling a bit bleak.
However, If something were to show up, It would either be now, or on the verdge of death.
I'll be looking into possibilities in the meantime. It's still a rating of "Oh, dear.."
Take care, Thank you for reading this!Last edited by IntelectPaladin; 2015-09-08 at 02:03 PM.

Re: OOTS #1003 - The Discussion Thread
How did Roy, a high level warrior in alert and with his sword drawn, allowed himself to be grappled so easily by Durkula?
