I'm pretty sure the majority if not ALL of those soldiers are merely Fighters. NPC Warriors even.

Those aren't paladins. The paladins wear white and blue. Those are regular fighters or, more likely, warriors.

The real question now is, what'll happen if Redcloak and the hobgoblins take the wall, but Xykon is driven out of the throne room?

V could have taken out a few hobs. But it's clear that with the numbers they had even before the deserters left, the human side just could not have held that gap. At all. So V would be dead, and the hobs would still be through the hole.

Every strip is another loop on the rollercoaster. Keep'em coming mate!

Wow, checked for the comic at just the right time it seems.

Cool comic, nice to that the army isn't just going to stand around doing what their told (I guess the morale check was pretty low that round?)

I am seriously annoyed with V now though, having a high level there might have at least helped morale.

Edit: Ok maybe not, but at the very least s/he could have done something more helpful with that spell. The "I am sorry" line is just classic V though.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that V was being cowardly, because s/he/it knew that if s/he/it stayed there, s/he/it would have just been trampled underfoot by the hobgoblin horde. The NPCs were being cowardly because they weren't really thinking about that, they just didn't want to die, but V is a PC and frankly, is not expendable and s/he/it probably knew that.

I don't think "honorable" is a trait that V would weigh as more important than "existing". V has NO magic left, and this isn't his/her homeland here. He/she isn't Lawful Good, he/she may not be Good at all. He/she did the right thing for his/her character.

Let's not forget he/she has a wife/husband waiting for him/her, and who knows, possibly a son/daughter!

Hmmm, a mage with low HP (since V is clearly wounded) and no spells left should stay and fight? Screw that, i bet there's a reason if V lived long enough to reach such a high level, and that's why he didn't stay.
