Wizards of the Coast is closing their forums.

In order to keep the community's contributions to the game, both mechanical and cultural, we need to mirror the threads here and/or on other boards. Here's a link to the GitP announcement thread, as well as some of Curmudgeon's and others' suggestions on what to move over. Feel free to link things from other boards that have been moved, and I'll add them to the index.

The deadline to copy everything is October 29 (10:00 am PT). Overtime: Nov 5.

Where are threads being saved?
EnWorld has sent an email saying "EN World has set up an "Emergency WotC Evacuation Lifeboat" forum so that valuable content can be saved from the WotC boards." If anyone can find a list of everything 3.x that they've transferred, please let me know and I'll link it here.

MinMax/ Brilliant Gameologists has an index of handbooks that includes a lot of information from the WotC forums already in place, but there's also threads discussing it. RPG.net also has a list of internet archived links here, and a thread. A thread discussing the move on WotC's forums exists.

Besides that, Giant in the Playground has also stepped up to move things over.

How can I help?
Moving things over isn't difficult. Follow these steps:

1. Log into your WotC boards account, or make one.
2. Scroll to the bottom of the post you'd like to copy, and press Quote.
3. At the bottom of your quoted reply, there's an option called "Text Format". Select "Plain Text", and you'll see the HTML formatting included in the post.
4. Run the HTML-formatted post through an HTML-to-BBCode converter like this or this. It should keep most of the formatting; add any missing formatting.
5. Post the quoted post to our boards. Please link to the original and credit the author; hopefully using the Wayback Machine to create a stable link should work.

See post #2 for threads others have recommended saving; every hand copying things helps.

For threads that likely won't have much community discussion (small builds, small homebrews), it might be best to post multiples to a single thread. This way we don't flood our forum with old material. Folks that wish to discuss things in detail can always make a thread about it. Otherwise, giving each thread its own new thread will make Googling easier for future users.

Are the The 3.5 Weapon Special Abilities thread and The 3.5 Armor and Shield Special Abilities thread already backed up somewhere?

I know I use them a lot but I'm not currently capable of backing them up myself. I did save their urls to the Wayback Machine (weapons, armors) just in case.

Edit: For those interested the Living in a Flying Box... article about abusing Spell Turrets and the Stronghold Builder's Guidebook to create an impervious flying room of doom had a wayback link before I tried archiving it.

A lot of this stuff has been on MinMax (or BG) for years.

They have; however, it's tricky to see what hasn't been moved over without a list. It's also nice to be able to update all my bookmarks. I was way too lazy to check all the top boards for the same article and then see which one is the most up-to-date, but now I must.

Does anyone have the thread about using ring gates, quintessence and some other stuff to create an inertia-less drive for the moon and folding portable holes into themselves to create singularities? That is one I would love to see again.

I ported the Alternative Class Features thread here. This is a big one, so there will be plenty of errors. I've already fixed the bad Wizards links and made a few other corrections. I'm not too in-tune with what's happening over at WotC to cause this to shut down, but I thought I'd mention:

Are their 3.5 Web Supplements also disappearing? (I know that at some point they had a Warblade supplement but I can't find it anymore.) If they are, is it against forum rules to save those here as well?

It'd be nice if someone saved Tempest Stormwind's optimization showcase posts in one topic (ie the A-Game Paladin and the other builds in that line of threads).

I was going through all my bookmarks for WotC forum stuff and found the A-game paladin amongst them, posted it here. I don't have any of the others of his showcases bookmarked though
