Re: OOTS #459 - The Discussion Thread
I'm getting torn here.
Don't want redcloak or Xykon dead, but don't want them killing anymore paladins either. Especially not Soon. Like Xykon getting hurt, though.

Re: OOTS #459 - The Discussion Thread
This is getting very interesting... and the paladin-spirit in the dark blue cloak and hood shows up again, apparently entrusted by Soon to do some major whuppage somehow. I'm hoping we get to find out something about that in the near future.
Loved the wordplay with Soon's name(Abbot and Costello, anybody? )
Overall, loved the strip and now the tension is beginning to crank up. The OoTS better get their butts in gear and do something, otherwise the Ghost Brigade may lose their heaviest hitters to Turn Checks and force spells. And Tsukiko's a wild card as well... with the way Redcloak left her to die she's gonna be mighty pissed. Who's to say she won't zap him out of sheer spite?
Keep 'em coming, Rich! Now if you don't mind, I am somewhat preoccupied telling the laws of physics to shut up and sit down.

Re: OOTS #459 - The Discussion Thread
For people complaining about Xykon not running out of spells, I will say simply this: Xykon, if he is a 20th level Sorcerer, can cast at least 24 spells over 5th level.
And that's not even counting the bonus spells he might get for having an insanely high charisma.
Now I said I wasn't going to do it, but I failed my Save vs Geeking and figured out that the Xykon/Soon battle could have lasted 19-25 rounds before Redcloak showed up (see theClass and Level Geekery Threadthis thread for the gory details). And this lines up perfectly with Xykon's comment about running out of spells over 5th level.
So take a bow, Rich. I actually doubted the timelines could match up. But you know what? They more or less do.
Just goes to show that a High Level Sorcerer really is the Energizer Bunny!Last edited by Porthos; 2007-05-31 at 12:45 AM.

Re: OOTS #459 - The Discussion Thread
Well theres a bit too much country in this one, with the partner swapping in middle of fights, dancing between squares[frames] to switch on the weaker opponent, sounds pretty kinky to me

Times like this when Redcloak might be better off if he didn't hate humans so much. Tsukiko would have been useful.

Plus he wouldnt have wasted the level 6 spell that he could have used as a negative energy inflict spell instead of blade barrier.

Re: OOTS #459 - The Discussion Thread
Man I really hope by the end of this Paladins vs. Lich thing at least SOMEONE is shown using Lay on Hands against Xykon. It's like one of the best attack moves to use against Undead. Touch attack, Xykon takes as much damage as Soon says he does, up to his capacity for the day, no save.

Re: OOTS #459 - The Discussion Thread
I gotta say I really didn't enjoy this comic in the least. I'm tired of the Xykon storyline. It's gone on far too long IMO. I can't wait until Rich kills him off. (No offence to you evil lovers or Rich)

Re: OOTS #459 - The Discussion Thread
Somehow, I knew there'd be a wordplay on "Soon"... sooner or later. :P
But ZOMG! If this is 459... HOW UBER IS FRIDAY'S STRIP GOING TO BE? *can't wait*
Smite evil! For Great Justice! That last panel is pure awesome. "Goddamnit! I forgot how much pain hurt!"
But Soon is so easily baited... wasn't he supposed to be going after Redcloak?

He truly has a way with words, too. "Do you know what the best part of killing the entire Sapphire guard was? Neither do I, I wasn't actually paying attention when I did it :D"Last edited by Estrosiath; 2007-05-31 at 12:51 AM.

Re: OOTS #459 - The Discussion Thread
Hm. Our heroes (OOTS) might still save the day. I can just see it -- everyone worn out and tired, and celebrating that they're still alive, if barely and out of spells, and then OOTS arrives. It's like Samantha.
Oh, I hope that happens! That would be sweet! (Although, I do like the ghost-martyr pallies, incl. Soon.)

Maybe Durkoun can heal him, and he can do that lay on hands trick, as he and Hinjo are the only Paladins left alive.

Re: OOTS #459 - The Discussion Thread
The ironic thing is, Tsukiko would've really helped in this situation, as she would have tons of low-level spells to spam the ghosts with while Xykon and Redcloak ran out. (Of spells, I mean, not out the door. Though they would run out the door if they were sensible.)
But yeah, anyway - great comic. 10 out of 10 for awesomeness.

Well, I just hope that Soon gets a death (again) worthy of his status.
Oh, and I could feel Rich forcing himself not to go further with the "Soon", "I'd prefer to know right now, thanks." joke.

Re: OOTS #459 - The Discussion Thread
See, I'm not so sure that Tsukiko will be in the mood for saving anyone's bacon when she gets up to the throne room (which she's bound to do--she can fly, and she knows it's where Redcloak is heading). She might just try to kill Redcloak, and if he's short on high level spells, she might actually have a chance to do so!
To the person who suggested Tsukiko could try to turn the ghost-martyrs, the problem there is that she's a Mystic Theurge. Although she gets all the spellcasting abilities of two base classes, she doesn't get any of the other perks, so chances are her Turning ability is only the same as that of a 3rd level cleric.

Re: OOTS #459 - The Discussion Thread
I hate watching the Paladins die again. I just hate it.
But still, it was interesting and I hope very much, the Order arrives before they actually died all. Now, that Redcloak and Xykon are running low on spells they might even stand a chance. And all those "Heal" spells (or their equivalents) are one of the things I hate in D&D... Nothing like pounding on an opponent for hours, taking lots of hits in return - and just when you think you might win. *BLAM* Back to square one and you can't match this. Makes you want to scream in frustration...
