Re: Colour Association
Dark Sun is a gloomy sunset red with brownish tinges.
Eberron is steel colored, but a bit rusty.
Forgotten Realms are rainbowy+black and Grey (ergo: A childs pantings "everything goes" shades ^^).
Al Quadim is Brass.
Oriental Adventures are green.
Ravenloft is hopeless, Fog-colored grey.
Never played in the other ones.

Re: Colour Association
I can definitely see PLANESCAPE® having a circular rainbow plastered over its name, staring from "dark colors" and gradually growing lighter as you get closer to the center.
Or, alternatively, each color is like a slice of pie, gradually blending into each other via that circular shape.3e │ 5e : Quintessa's Dweomerdrain (Drain power from a magic item to fuel your spells)
