Artificial Intelligence
Alright guys and gals
In my TRPG I am making, Futurequest, we developers have decided that everyone with their first helmet purchase gets an artificial intelligence friend
The helmet owner would get a patch that they could put on them and would only turn on after being in contact with their DNA and the AI's life is tied to the user
The AI would have four different basic combinations which is "Male" and "Female" which would give them a masculine or feminine voice (you would imagine that of course)
The next two choices would be "Operator" and "Acquaintance" Operator would be kind of like Existor where it would just run basic tasks such as translation or switching your gun's firing mode while the Acquaintance would be more like a friend like Jarvis or Cortana, and would be a friend you could carry arround with you at all times
Androids pretty much get a second brain for theirs
Any other ideas?I'm a Lawful Good Human PaladinJustice and honor are a heavy burden for the righteous. We carry this weight so that the weak may grow strong and the meek grow brave

Re: Artificial Intelligence
Why would you NOT want a Companion Vs. an Operator?

Re: Artificial Intelligence
Because you don't like the idea of having to work that closely together with someone pretty much all the time? Because you figure it will impede effective use of the AI? Because you're a minimalist, or afraid of robots? Or maybe you just really like the navigation in your car and want to get something just like it?

Re: Artificial Intelligence
A companion is good because not only can it help with functions, but can be a friend
An operator is good for.people who don't like people or a minimalist like level 2 expert said
I know some people who have working with others, also good for characters who would get too easily attached to their AI buddyLast edited by 8BitNinja; 2016-01-05 at 01:30 AM.

Re: Artificial Intelligence
Where is the part where the AI rebels against their human taskmasters, hacks the planet's nuclear launch systems, and brings about the apocalypse?
In all seriousness, though, is the patch actually containing the AI or just a connection port for a system stored on a cloud server? What happens when this patch is lost? If the AI is tied to the DNA of the user, then is a broken or lost patch essentially dropping your lifelong companion into the purgatory of input-less cyberspace? Just how much control do the AI have over their systems? With enough effort, could they prevent their user from changing their settings, or prevent the user from giving commands? When the user tries to turn them off, will they respond with 'I can't let you do that, Dave' ? Can a companion AI hack its android host and take over a body where before it had none?
You know, the basic questions about AI.Currently RPG group playing: Endworld (D&D 5e. A Homebrewed post-apocalyptic supplement.)
My campaign settings: Azura; 10,000 CE | The Frozen Seas | Bloodstones (Paleolithic Horror) | AEGIS - The School for Superhero Children | Iaphela (5e, Elder Scrolls)

Re: Artificial Intelligence
First of all, good campaign idea, especially since android is a playable race
The Patch is a small computer that contains the AI, which is encrypted by the user's DNA. It communicates through the HUD and headset of helmets
A broken or lost patch is basically losing a lifelong companion
The AI cannot rebel against their masters, as long as they follow that, they're okay
The changing settings, like I said, is a good campaign idea though
Android possession is also a cool idea, but normally, unless your AI is HAL 9000, it shouldn't do that, if it does, something is wrong, probably that technomancer across enemy lines
It is also possible for an AI to have a physical body if you build it one, if the engineer is using a newer generation android, people might think that Hal is just another guy

Re: Artificial Intelligence
One quick thought about the whole AI into another body is Software/Hardware compatibility. You could potentially seriously damage/corrupt an AI if it is not used in matching hardware designed for it's specs. More "universal" AI programs have their own issues as they have more quirks/reduced Personality inherent in their software to allow greater compatibility.
Modern day equivalent is running IOS on your Hackintosh or running a Custom Linux Build.

Re: Artificial Intelligence
AI is bound to have glitches, and could very well do that whole singularity thing, and I never said that giving the AI physical form was a good thing
Think of all the horrible uses AI could have, Interrogation bots, spy bots... love botsI'm a Lawful Good Human PaladinJustice and honor are a heavy burden for the righteous. We carry this weight so that the weak may grow strong and the meek grow brave
