Our Arrows Will Block Out the Sun: Homebrew Archery Feats (WIP) (PEACH)
Our Arrows Will Block Out the Sun
Homebrew Archery Feats for D&D 3.0/3.5
I'm taking another crack at homebrewing. This time, the goal is to add a bit of functionality and awesomeness to the woefully under-supported area of archery. These feats are not exclusive to bows, however, and may include any ranged weapon. (Gunslingers, take note.)
Some of these feats may overlap with existing material, or may be overpowered. I'd appreciate any input, because I like doing things right.
Let's begin, shall we?
Mow Down
Prerequisites: Dex 17, Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, BAB +6
Benefit
When you make iterative ranged attacks with a ranged weapon, rather than make only one at your highest BAB, you may make two at your highest BAB. Each subsequent iterative attack is made at a cumulative -5 penalty. (So if you have +6/+1 BAB, both attacks are made at +6, and if you have +11/+6/+1, the attacks are made at +11/+11/+6.) This feat does not grant additional attacks.
Special
Regardless of the number of arrows you fire, you apply precision-based damage only once. If you score a critical hit, only the first arrow fired deals critical damage; all others deal regular damage.
A fighter may select Mow Down as one of his fighter bonus feats.
A 6th-level ranger who has chosen the archery combat style is treated as having Mow Down even if he does not have the prerequisites for it, but only when he is wearing light or no armor.
Improved Mow Down [Epic]
Prerequisites: Dex 19, Point Blank Shot, Rapid Shot, Mow Down, BAB +21
Benefit
When you make iterative ranged attacks with a ranged weapon, all are made at your highest BAB. This feat does not grant additional attacks.
Special
Regardless of the number of arrows you fire, you apply precision-based damage only once. If you score a critical hit, only the first arrow fired deals critical damage; all others deal regular damage.
Headshot
Prerequisites: Dex 17, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, BAB +6
Benefit
When you make a ranged attack with a ranged weapon at your highest BAB, roll the attack as usual. If it hits, it automatically threatens a critical hit. You must confirm the critical normally.
Improved Headshot [Epic]
Prerequisites: Dex 19, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Headshot, BAB +21
Benefit
When you make a ranged attack with a ranged weapon at your highest BAB, roll the attack as usual. If it hits, it is automatically a confirmed critical hit. No confirmation roll is required. This ability has no effect on creatures ordinarily immune to critical hits, unless you use some means of bypassing that immunity.
Spellshearing Shot
Prerequisites: Dex 17, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, BAB +11
Benefit
When you make a ranged attack with a ranged weapon against an opponent protected by a spell with a duration other than instantaneous, the target must make a caster level check for each such spell. For any roll that does not exceed your attack roll, that spell offers no defense, and your attack passes it without incident. This includes spells which grant magical bonuses to AC, such as Luminous Armor, and spells which create an obstacle, such as Wind Wall (but not instantaneous spells, such as Wall of Stone). If the spell provides a defensive benefit, a Spellshearing Shot ignores that benefit; if the spell creates an obstacle, a Spellshearing Shot passes through the obstacle without incident.
A Spellshearing Shot does not bypass summoned creatures, although it may ignore magical protections when attacking them, as stated above.

That's all I have for now. Thoughts?Last edited by Red Fel; 2016-01-06 at 03:11 PM.
My headache medicine has a little "Ex" inscribed on the pill. It's not a brand name; it's an indicator that it works inside an Anti-Magic Field.
Blue text means sarcasm. Purple text means evil. White text is invisible.
My signature got too big for its britches. So now it's over here!

You should add a note to Headshot that indicates the attack still needs to hit, like other auto-crits do.
"No matter how subtle the wizard, a knife between his shoulder blades will seriously cramp his style."
