A Faerie Affair - IC II: A Pixie in a Bottle

A party of five fey creatures was assembled by Queen Lydia Seaspray at her palace in the Shilmista. With very little in the way of information, they were asked to travel nearly a thousand miles to Cormanthor, where their aid was apparently needed.

They made good time through the woods, befriending some of the forest creatures who in turn provided them with speedy transport through the difficult terrain. The party also encountered an old druid by the name of Ceol who seemed friendly, despite his unconventional attitude towards humanoid society.

After leaving the forest, the party ventured out into the fringes of the Giant's Plain. They didn't get much further than the foothills of the Snowflake Mountains, however, before they encountered Cershire, a human village. Discovering that the village was being threatened by a pack of vicious gnolls, the party decided to stop and help.

For the next few days, Opal, Korialstrasz and Sakura explored the plains, tracking down a tribe of centaurs and enlisting their help for the upcoming fight. Orianna stayed in the village, helping to raise a militia and failing miserably in her romantic pursuits. Astra put her alchemical skills to use, producing an array of explosives to help tip the balance against the gnolls.

The party and their allies set off to strike at the gnolls' headquarters on the 9^th day of the adventure - the day before a huge festival was due to be held in the village. The battle went well, with the bombs forcing the gnolls to emerge from their hole piecemeal and allowing the militia and centaurs to pick them off. After forcing back the initial assault, the party took a short breather (during which time Sakura was called away on urgent business) and then headed into the cave to put an end to the monsters, once and for all...

And now... we are at the top of Round 12 in the fight to clear the gnolls out of their cave. It is Korialstrasz's turn.

Aashrina then struggles forward and lunges at Opal:

Astra thinks she hears the combat get much closer. Still, she maintains the spell for now...

One of the hyenas runs through the writhing undergrowth, apparently trying to get at the faerie dragon fluttering behind Opal. In so doing, it provokes an opportunity attack from the oread.

Another hyena proceeds more cautiously, ending up in the middle of the difficult terrain but benefiting from the dodge action.

Lamok moves in and makes an attack against Ori:

Yeenu, meanwhile, takes a shot at Opal. The intervening combatants make it a difficult one, but the gnoll steadies itself and tries nonetheless...

Opal may make an opportunity attack against Yikyik, if she wishes. Alternatively, she can attempt to protect Orianna against Lamok. It is now Orianna's turn.

Yeenu's aim is true and finds a gap in Opal's armor. However, the arrow strikes one of Opal's favored rocks that is tucked into a pocket of her gambeson.

As Opal takes a nasty blow, Orianna jams the spear in her hand downward at the gnoll standing in front of Opal (Aashrina). Whether or not the strike is successful, she then she drops the useless shaft and draws her warhammer again.

Ori's attack almost penetrates the gnoll's armour, but the rusted tip proves unable to cut through the toughened hide.

The last hyena then bounds forward, finishing its turn by Ori's side.

Opal's turn!

Opal can feel that they are starting to get surrounded so uses much of the last of her reserve energy. She draws her hammer then pivots and attacks Yikyik.

Opal kills the hyena but fails to finish the gnoll, which is now extremely close to falling.

Zirk struggles forward, but cannot get into a position from which to attack, so instead focuses on defense.

It seemed the gnolls were all near Opal and Orianna. The time to act was now! Astra flits a bit forward. Then she casts a sleep spell just in front of her two companions. The roots and vines in the ground at the same time, wither and shrivel away.

Snap the hyena falls asleep, but none of the gnolls are affected - not even Zirk, who looked drowsy for a few seconds after the spell was cast.

Lamok glares at Astra with its beady eyes, then tries to break through the heavily-armoured front line by disengaging and stalking Ori's left flank.

Yeenu follows this up with an arrow fired at Orianna...

Orianna turns quickly as the gnoll passes by. Grumbling at his guarded move, she follows behind, rushing across the body-ridden cavern to strike him (Lamok) from behind.

Opal figures that Orianna and Astra have Lamok covered and that Kor can take on a hyena so she steps forward to keep the other two gnolls occupied. She steps forward and attacks Zirk, though he appears ready for her.

ooc: Zirk still has dodge in place right? He's the same initiative but he's been going after me. The roll below assumes dodge.

Do you know how scary a fifty-foot-tall gnoll is that runs at you and looks like it's going to enjoy squashing you like a bug? Pretty scary. At least for Astra, anyway.

"Eep!" she squeaks, as she disengages from the gnoll and retreats past the barrier. That ought to slow it down.

Snap is still asleep.

Lamok considers chasing after the pixie, but realises that that would open up an opportunity for Orianna to attack, so instead he turns to fight her.
