What music represents your adventurer?
After this thread, I've become enamored with the idea of using short music clips to represent adventurers or situations they often find themselves in. I'll be using this in D&D, but I see no reason not to open this up to any fantasy game. Some could be humorous, others fitting the setting (like a tavern song), or others mood setting. Who has some great ideas?
My ideas so far:
Mission Impossible theme
Duel of the Fates (Star Wars)
Edge of Night (Pippin's Song, Lord of the Rings)
Smooth Criminal (pick your version)
Misty Mountains Cold (Hobbit)
Various songs from Skyrim, Dragon Age, and Baldur's Gate

Re: What music represents your adventurer?
My CE anime ninja's theme (Naruto rp) was I will not bow by Breaking Benjamin. Goes very well with anime action-heavy roleplaying methinks.

Re: What music represents your adventurer?
I think the last character I played in a tabletop game... well, he was short and perpetually startled, and spent a lot of time running away from things, except when he was running after things.
I see him as well represented by the Benny Hill theme."None of us likes to be hated, none of us likes to be shunned. A natural result of these conditions is, that we consciously or unconsciously pay more attention to tuning our opinions to our neighbor’s pitch and preserving his approval than we do to examining the opinions searchingly and seeing to it that they are right and sound." - Mark Twain

Re: What music represents your adventurer?
For my favorite character, my chaotic-evil female human sorceress, Quintessa, I kind of want to go with the song "I Put a Spell on You," to the point where the idea of a d20 Modern variation would have been named Susana Quintero — "Susie Q." Yeah, I know CCR didn't write either song, but it just seemed like a fun, shared connection in this case. Also, that Bette Midler performance in Hocus Pocus.
Years ago I had made a brutal warlord type, a chaotic-evil male human barbarian named Aži Dahāka, whom I had originally created in the game, Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires, so I tend to associate the track "Fate Corrodes Me" with him. I keep meaning to rebuild him with the honest intention of having him prestige into blackguard (especially with the use of Polyhedron's "Nightmare Steed" feat). Might require his alignment to be changed to neutral- or lawful-evil.*
For Dungeons & Dragons overall I ripped tracks from an old (abandonware) PC first-person shooter called Strife: Quest for the Sigil which tend to have some atmosphere and flavor to 'em. Well, if you like 20-year-old .midi tracks.
*Aside from having him constantly ride atop a black horse (Shadow Runner, when available), I'd always make his base at Yi Ling who's battles were always fought under nightfall… or, in my imagination, beneath the hanging shadow of his dark rule that spread throughout the land.
EDIT: Ah, I forgot that I once attempted to translate the name "Robert Plant" into something Elvish-sounding like "Galas Gîl-aglaren" for a half-elven bard, and I've also had a (possibly vampiric) bard in mind who's musical stylings would be very reminiscent of the Dresden Dolls.Last edited by Âmesang; 2016-01-18 at 09:16 PM.

Re: What music represents your adventurer?
Since ~85% of my characters are based off musicians, their theme music is a song or songs the actual artist wrote.
So Taylor Swift the antipaladin is a conglomerate of all of her music, Hayley Willams the heavens oracle is is based almost entirely off her part in "airplanes" by B.o.B.Guides
Monk dipping for pathfinder druids, a mini guide
Trapped Under Ice-Geddy2112's guide to the Pathfinder Winter Witch
I contributed to this awesome guide to chaotic good

Re: What music represents your adventurer?
... I actually have a "theme song" to each character I make. Music is always a great inspiration to me when I create characters, no matter the game.
To start with the ones in my signature:
Soah, the Ultimate Magus - Ronfaure with vocals from Final Fantasy XI
Natasha the Green Sparrow - Kkaduri from Soul Blade
Sheliya, the Paladin - Luminous Sword from Sword Art Online
Othariel, Lady Defender and Princess of Thunder Rift - Rohan theme from Lord of the Rings
Others:
Kará, doomsayer and cleric of Loki - When Winter Comes by miracleofsound
Raani, Flame of the Dawnflower - The Hot Gates from 300
Leona, Thayan Knight - Sword of Doubt (metal version) from Final Fantasy IX
Aaaaand lots of others. I don't always note down for each character what the theme song was, but it is an instrumental (ha!) part in my character creation.

Re: What music represents your adventurer?
Sabre Dance is a good one for chaotic stupid parties, up there with Benny Hill. I'd recommend the version by The Pretenders, since it sounds extra chaotic on electric guitar. Blue Ridge Saga is good for a wilderness theme. And Arsenal by Jan Van Der Roost is good for the celebratory parade at the end of an epic quest. If someone gets drugged, I think Only Shallow by My Bloody Valentine would be fitting. Actually, anything off of their album Loveless would work for that. And for something sad but peaceful, maybe a funeral, I'd recommend Saeglopur by Sigur Ros.

Re: What music represents your adventurer?
My games often have an an unofficial soundtrack that I listen to whenever I prep them. I want to say that this influenced the games, but since I can only remember one of the themes I'd say they probably don't matter all that much.
If you like what I have to say, please check out my GMing Blog where I discuss writing and roleplaying in greater depth.

Re: What music represents your adventurer?
Quite many of them could have Battle Metal as their theme song.

Emmy Zigzag, rigger, Shadowrun 5e.
She's always plugged into a DocWagon ambulance while snoring on the steering wheel. Or sensing through drones instead. Or experiencing a BetterThanLife hot-SIM program of a sunnier place.
Back in Flesh by Wall of Voodoo (New Wave music)
"Maybe a little fishing--"
"--the fish are on vacation."
"What about some sunbathing--"
"--you know we're in Seattle, right?"
"Well, what about this--"
"--no, no, no, no--"
"You can't tell me what to do!
"You can't tell me what to do!--"
...I have found a RL gaming group but I'm willing to meet other GitP people nearby.

Re: What music represents your adventurer?
For my druid: Neptune the Mystic. Subtle and gentle, but also cold and secretive. There really should be an element of danger or raw ferocity underneath, which she very rarely shows, but you can read that in if you like. I was about to go with Beethoven's Sixth (that thunderstorm is something), but it's just too friendly and delighted for the most part. It is, in general, a wonderful good-aligned nature-themed piece.
For a former fighter of mine: Bolero. His primary characteristic was that he was incapable of giving up or giving in. He got trounced again and again, but kept coming back, and kept getting stronger, and stronger, and never more sophisticated.
For an NPC warlock, whom the players invited on their journeys at times: Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses. While she was definitely a good friend, loyal and pleasant company, she could be utterly ruthless to aynone else. And gods help those that hurt her friends. Mad, bad, and dangerous to know, but most of them liked her a lot.My D&D 5th ed. Druid Handbook

Re: What music represents your adventurer?
I have a few favorites, depending more on the characterization than the character class.
- Indomitable Warrior: "Dragon Force," from Fairy Tail, or "Shining Finger," from G Gundam.
- Righteous Knight: "Gomen ne, Iiko ja Irarenai," by Miku Sawai, from Kill la Kill.
- Mastermind: "The Master Suite," by Murray Gold, from Doctor Who, or "Mars, the Bringer of War," by Gustav Holst, from The Planets suite.
- Enigmatic but Sinister: "Danse Macabre," by Camille Saint-Saens.
- Angry and Conflicted: "Papermoon," by Tommy Heavenly6, from Soul Eater.
Someday, I want to write a character worthy of this.My headache medicine has a little "Ex" inscribed on the pill. It's not a brand name; it's an indicator that it works inside an Anti-Magic Field.
Blue text means sarcasm. Purple text means evil. White text is invisible.
My signature got too big for its britches. So now it's over here!
