    Default Newbie question!

Ok rolling abilities, I'm a little confused...

    Take this one for example:

4d6, drop lowest, rolled 7 times with lowest result dropped.

I understand you roll four 6 sided dice 7 times and out of those you drop the lowest result.

    2 Questions

    1. Do you take those results in order? Top Str, Next Dex, Next Con etc...?

    2. What method is used to determine the actual ability value? like 24 = ? 23 = ? etc...

    Any help would be appriciated!

You're close but not quite right.

4d6 drop lowest means roll four six-sided dice and take the top three. Repeat six times. Those are your six ability scores. Place as desired.

    Okay, let's see here....

Roll 4d6. Drop the lowest. For example, if you rolled 2, 4, 3, and 6 then drop the 2. Add the rest together. In that example it'd be 13.

Repeat 5 times. You should now have 6 numbers between 3 and 18. These are your six ability scores; you get to decide which number goes to which ability score.

Rolling doesn't work on this forum apparently. Anyways

    You roll your 4d6. Lets say its: 1, 3, 4, 5

And dropping the lowest mean you drop the 1. Giving you an ability score of 12.

Wash, rinse, repeat, until you have 7. Lets say that give you a 12, 11, 8, 16, 12, 14, 17. You would drop the 8 as the lowest and then you can assign the scores as you think best. Which would depend on you class. Let say you wanted to be a Fighter. Then your stats might look like:

    Str: 17
    Dex: 12
    Con: 16
    Int:14
    Wis:12
    Cha:11

Can't but it should work in the RP forums. Or you can always use the very happy Invisble Castle tools:

Accually, you only roll six times

Six stats if you are dropping one that means 7 rolls. I've had DMs do just six (in order too, to have random classes) but that wasn't the specific example posed here.

You don't actually drop the lowest stat, just the lowest number in each set of rolls. So you only do six sets, and assign as desired.

Some DM's have you roll the 4d6 a total of six times.
Some have you roll the 4d6 a total of 7, then drop the lowest.
