I am wondering if there is some sort of situational modifier I am unaware of since it was not mentioned in the description of the results of the actions.

I'm generally just going to say "they attack you and hit X and do Y damage if they hit," not specifically edit in "they hit" after rolling unless there's some significant story effect to them hitting, rather than just damage.

Not immediately visible. Your only proof of their hostility is that one of them just slashed Rung. You do know that the glaive is the favored weapon of the demon lord Baphomet, and the scythe the favored weapon of the demon lord Deskari--the glaive is also the favored weapon of Shelyn, Neutral Good goddess of beauty, art, love, and music, but no non-evil deities that favor the scythe quickly come to mind.

The scythe enemy did just that, so I think you're good to go with melee.

Kel and Alamryn are at AA11 and AA12, not AA10 and AA11. I was careful to not make a ranged attack while in melee with C2.
