    Zarina

    Zarina waits as the halfling searches the door and gives it the once over before nodding. She pushes on the door looking at the frieze of a female Vaati on Icosiol's arm and the door swings open.

    The tomb beyond is small and even without the glow from Zarina's gloves the room was lit by a very faint purple lantern reminiscent of those in the very first tomb. The room is well appointed with beautiful scenes of a pair of Vaati lovers in 4 seasonal fantastical gardens. On a plinth carved to resemble a tree trunk sits a red marble urn decorated with golden and electrum spirals. On the back wall are 6 dark metal chests each pitted with the corrosion of millenia...

    On the other side of the room heading south the floating orb flies through the double doors that were slightly ajar and floats down a dark corridor lined with the same light draughts and rolling patterns as the rest of the tomb. To Merrick's arcane eye the tunnel slopes down and runs for 100ft or with faint glowing light from myriad small gems faded on the stone walls.

    The corridor slopes down to where pulsing light can be seen as it ends in a large vaulted room where 2 chandeliers resembling shimmering rooms float in the air some 20ft up and just below the vaulted ceiling of the large (50ft by 60ft) chamber. Delicate white columns that givevthe impression of female shapes line the edge of the room and statues of stone warriors flank the stout stone doors to the left and right. Opposite and down the length of the room a small set of stairs rises to a double door of blue metal. Safe and seeing no danger the eye floats back to Merrick to relay the information.

    Lan looked around the room, wondering what evils or surprises awaited the group. He hated these mystical puzzle-boxes, and was certain this place was going to be painful sooner than later. He checked the floor and ceilings for signs of anything first, then moved slowly to inspect the urn and chests, without touching any of them.

    Lan ghosts into the Courtesan's tomb and slowly examines things. His sixth senses tingle as he approaches the urn, his arcane senses sniffing out a deadly trap the would energy drain his soul! Clearly Icosiol valued the remains of his lover.the chests are another matter, corroded the locks fall to bits and there are no traps on the chests. Three are filled with coloured dust, what was once fine silks and robes, the fourth contains a beautiful necklace, bracelet and earings of platinum and sapphire, the fifth contains a long fluted wand of wych wood, worked and whirked with 35 rings and the sixth contains a marble unicorn head in a mithril setting.

    With the loot wedged into a sack the party sadecwitg Merrick's description move off, creeping down the long tunnel, Lan running point where his sharp eyes notice the patches of shadowy webbing tucked in the corners as it becomes clear that the Kong corridor and massive arched room beyond was Flycatcher's lair.

    Reaching the large vaulted room lit by the pair of floating glowing moons the details of the freizes are revealed as its many pictures of the battles of the Vaati, on the right by the door are pictures of the strange seal and two marut. On the left the door is flanked by depictions of what looks like a snowy elemental creature and the vaati runes for Sionsiar. The metallic double doors straight head flanked by the stone warrior carvings are however likely the way you need to go aaxLan notices a few scuff marks and the telltale traces of humanoid magic user tracks...

    I finish casting the spell on a small stone as all sound in the area is deadened. I give the stone to Lan and gesture for him to continue.

    Both spiders held back to the rear of the group as they made their way through the chamber and into the next hall. One of them cast a spell to further increase their shared toughness while outside the bubble of silence.

    Their tactic was obvious, they covered detection of surprise attacks from the rear and the combination of their spitting poison and leaping ability enabled them to close with threats in front of the group within a blink of the eye.

    Lan whispered as Mirriana cast her spells, frowning as he continued his thoughts via the mindlink. "This looks like the spiders's la-" ... lair. Better check it out for any useful stuff. Mebber those two spiders can find it while I check the door.

    Taking the rock, Lan put it into his pocket before slipping forward. He approached the door carefully, moving to the side in order to check the plates in front of the door and any levers or mechanisms on the wall near the door. He peered at the mural of the marut in particular, before sharing what he found with the others.

    Spells flare and crackle around the heroes as Lan leads the way into the chamber, the now invisible halfling taking the zone of silence with him as he ghosts forward. The others scan and search with various detective magics but the thick stone walls or metallic doors impede any attempts to move further. Lan ghosts forward, searching the door and discerning no traps on the way towards it. The door opens smoothly revealing the quiet sanctuary of a shrine beyond.

    The room opens halfway down the western wall of the sombre chamber. Opposite Lan is a small statue of an armoured wind duke, left hand resting on his sword right held up to shield his eyes. The statue appears to be made of gold with shimmering sapphires that glitter in the beam of prismatic light focused down from a gem embedded into the ceiling. The walls are carved with bas reliefs of wind duke servants bowing and soldiers saluting. An elaborate carpet covers the floor but its badly worn and faded from millenia and the criss crossing of ancient guardians.

    More troubling to Lan is as he opens the door the statues flanking him shake off dust, the Relief Golems snapping into a semblance of activity either side of him. However, their stone swords do not point at him, instead gesturing towards the spiders and the pack of the heroes further down the stairs at the other end of the large chamber. Even as the reliefs golems spring out of the walls from the door to the party's right Elkist's spirit sense tingle as through the door an ancient looking wraith-like vaati, now twisted with evil moves through the door, a baleful looking spear in its hand.

    The woman whom had taken the form of a spider leapt into action, literally. The coiled legs of the arachnid sent her form barrelling toward the stone golem to the group's left. Fang and forelimb slashed out to chip away to the construct.

    As she moved, the echoing chitter of her fangs could be heard and returned by the other spider, which also charged into the fray, bounding over the group to put itself between them and the golem. Navarra had quickly recognized that the spirit was a larger threat and intended on busying the golems so that the group could focus themselves.

She strides towards the golems, a grin as she unslings her hammer, a muttered "Relief golems, they can hide in walls, use solid blows to shatter them like glass". She punctuates the comment as beside Arinadia she swings a massive blow at one of its weak spots!

    Lan mentally warned the group as the golems and wraith suddenly appeared. Tal, aren't you supposed to sense the dead?

    With an internal grump to himself, Lan called upon his divine powers to move swiftly, rushing forward past the golems into the room, letting multiple force javelins fly. His experience with the undead made his attacks all the more deadly ...

    The pair of massive spiders scuttle up to the golems, teeth scraping on the stone even as their powerful legs slam into the golems leaving cracks, one of the golems hammered harder literally as Zarina rolls under a stone blade to leave a rent in its side with her blow. Lan, invisible suddenly appears halfway down the room as a trio of force javelins lance out, each leaving massive gaping holes in the wraith's spectral form. Its undead face screeches with hate seemingly torn between the holy symbol covered Elkist and the halfling that has so assaulted it and plunges at the paladin. By the front of the room the pair of golems drop into unusual fighting stances, stone relief blades spinning around as they slice a both spiders and Zarina with delicate flowing stone motions...

    Behind Zarina and the spiders the wraith cones under sustained attack! Merrick blessed the drow who seems to glow with inner light even as she hewed and chopped at the wraith leaving strands of ghostly protoplasm behind. Mirriana steps back encouraging Elkist in the assault before she unleashes a whirling hammer of holy Judgement that blasts the wraith feet back against the wall. As it begins to recover there is a flurry of force javelins that pinion the incorporeal creature to the wall before it fades away leaving only a faint shadow behind...

    Zarina glances back, smiling as the wraith is dismissed, her body shaking despite the shield taking the impact of the golem's blow. Stepping in she twists round to strike at its joints, hammer twirling in her hands as she strikes repeatedly!

    The woman-spider held her ground despite the blow. She was surprised at the mobility of the statue, but knew the others would quickly assist as she saw the wraith dissipate from this world. The fangs and front legs continued to chip away to the construct.

    Blood flows freely as golems and spiders trade blows even as the wraith is destroyed in seconds by the combined forces of Lan's javelins and the holy assault from Elkist and Mirriana. The golem battling Zarina and the massive spider suddenly cracking and exploding into several chunks under the impact of the hammer blows from Zarina and the spider. THe other one is battered by Navarra, heavy cracks and fissures appearing on its stony forms as it hews mightily at Navarra in ancient defence of its tomb.

    Even as Elkist lands a solid blow Zarina's hammer hits true and the legs expode into dust, the Golem collapsing into rocks and rubble. Spitting dust and face and clothes caked in the marble powder Zarina looks spectral in the torch light.

    Coughing she beats off some of the dust. "Nasty things. Landhal, what did you see in the room beyond? ". She looks up at Elkist " Ghost hunter indeed, that wraith was once a Vaati. It must have had a powerful sense of duty to remain behind after death."
