The Uprise (Alpha Team) OOC
Hey everyone, I hope we all have fun with this campaign. Please grab a color. Teal is reserved :P
Feel free to post here whatever you think might fit. :) If you have any question about the scene or the setting, feel free to ask.
A few rules: Please use your grabbed color for speech. Please put dice rolls into spoilers. If you think that I should make a secret roll (e.g. sense motive), let me know.
If it's not a hassle for you, put your character into your signature, I would appreciate that, but it's not necessary.
Finally, regarding languages: I have already hinted at it in the introduction: None of you speak the master's language. However, you all speak the slave's language, which counts as "common", and which you were taught when introduced into slavery.

For nearly your whole life, you have lived as a slave, a servant without power or right over his own life. Many are born into slavery, but in your case it was most likely different, and you were captured from your homelands when you were a child. After all, you are not normal, but a freak -- and freaks do not breed well in captivity. For the most of your life, you have stayed in the huge premises of your master, which are surrounded by high, dense hedges: The magnificient mansion with the big, cultivated front yard, the back yard, the store houses, the baracks, and the training halls. Maybe you once caught a glimpse of the world outside, but most likely you know of it only from stories, or the bad smell of the city which rises when the sun comes out again after a summer rain.
You are not happy to be a slave, and you most likely also experienced some kind of abuse during your childhood. Now you are in your late teens or early twenties, and you have adapted to your surroundings. You have made friends with other slaves, have learned who of the guards to trust. You have never had the honor to actually meet your master, but those who did do not speak well of him. You may have encountered some of the rest of the family; but most of them prefer not to actually deal with freaks like you. Instead, you were indirectly ruled through a hierarchy of guards, the lower being also slaves, the higher being actually payed employees.
Maybe you had already given up on ever finding a way out of this life, maybe you were still clinging to this last piece of hope, those last memories from your childhood which fade more and more every day. But then, amidst the night, just a few minutes ago, this crackling sound, louder than everything you ever heard, followed by the slight shaking of the earth, that poured small pieces of chalk and stone from the ceiling of the barracks. You immediately knew that something was going on outside, though the sound was likely coming from off-premises. You heard noises of running and screaming people, shouting loud words in the masters' language, that you were never taught. Soon, you also heard noises of battle happening outside the barracks.
The four of you had awaken and exchanged glances of fear and surprise in the dim light of the torches outside. Then between the noise of fighting, you all heard it, the clicking sound you were so familiar with: The door of your sleeping cells opened -- with no one in sight.
Hey, if you read through this, and are interested in a play by post game, those are the big 16:
1. What game system are you running (D&D, Call of Cthulu, Palladium, GURPS, etc.), and if applicable what edition (Original, Classic, Revised, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 10th, etc.)? DND 3.5
2. What 'type' or variant of game will it be (i.e. "Shadow Chasers" or "Agents of Psi" for d20 Modern)? What is the setting for the game (eg. historic period, published or homebrewed campaign setting, alternate reality, modern world, etc.)? Fantasy setting, PCs are all slaves from some freakish (= non-basic) races; then an uprise occurrs, and the PCs are supposed to find there ways through this chaos.
3. How many Players are you looking for? Will you be taking alternates, and if so, how many? I am looking for four players. If people are dropping out during the game, I am willing to call further players to arms :)
4. What's the gaming medium (OOTS, chat, e-mail etc.)? Here in the forum. Please post around once per day. If you cannot post for some time, please tell me asap, and you may either set your character on "follow" (or similar), or give it to some other player for this amount of time. Should you not post for some time without notice, I will write your character out.
5. What is the characters' starting status (i.e. experience level)? ECL 5. ECL = Sum of LA, racial HD and class levels. In the end, you must have at least one HD.
6. How much gold or other starting funds will the characters begin with? None. You have barely clothes on your bodies.
7. Are there any particular character classes, professions, orders, etc. that you want... or do not want? What are your rules on 'prestige' and/or homebrewed classes? We will use the generic classes in the SRD: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/cl...ricClasses.htm
Please explain the choice of your class in the background. If you have class levels, you gained them while being trained on-premises. I would strongly suggest to choose warrior or expert, as caster will be difficult to explain.
8. What races, subraces, species, etc. are allowed for your game? Will you allow homebrewed races or species? 'Prestige' races or species? Now this is important: As mentioned in the introduction, you will play "freaks". Pick either of the two: (1) A race which comes from the permitted content, is labeled a base race has a "... as characters" entry, and the sum of LA and racial HD is at least 1. (2) Pick a template which can be added to a humanoid, and pick a humanoid race (base race or "... as characters entry"), and apply the template according to the rules.
There will be no LA buyoff or the like. You are encouraged to choose your race such that you still get at least one class level, but this is not a requirement, racial HD are also fine.
9. By what method should Players generate their attributes/ability scores and Hit Points?
Use the following array for attribute scores: 17 (+3), 15 (+2), 14 (+2), 13 (+1), 12 (+1), 9 (-1).
For hit points, please use this system: Hit Points are full on first, and then average with alternating round down/up. If you prefer to roll your HP, you may also do so, but then you have to do this for the rest of this character's life, and there will be no rerolls.
So for instance, a d6 character would get: 6 + 3 + 4 + 3 + 4...
10. Does your game use alignment? What are your restrictions, if so? As DND relies on it, we require an alignment put on each character sheet. BUT, more importantly, I want the characters to cooperate with each other. Of course, you can have different opinions or views on the world sometimes, but the four of you became friends, and you would practically die for at least one other person between you four.
11. Do you allow multi-classing, or have any particular rules in regards to it? Multiclass freely between the four (counting arcane and divine caster as single classes regarding multiclassing).
12. Will you be doing all of the die rolling during the course of the game? Will die rolls be altered, or left to the honor system? If players can make die rolls, which ones do they make, how should they make the rolls, and how should they report them?
We will mostly use the forum, with the exception of hidden rolls, obviously.
13. Are there any homebrewed or optional/variant rules that your Players should know about? If so, list and explain them, or provide relevant links to learn about these new rules.
You may choose up two traits. You may also pick up to one flaw in exchange for gaining a feat.
I will list them here:
Spoiler: House rules
Following a retreating five foot steps: If an enemy during an encounter does a 5ft step leaving your reach, and you have not yet moved in this round, you may "follow" with a 5ft step of your own. When it is your turn in this round, we act as if you have done a 5ft step right in the beginning of your round.
14. Is a character background required? If so, how big? Are you looking for anything in particular (i.e. the backgrounds all ending up with the characters in the same city)? Yes, I would like to have a character background, which answers at least the following questions: (1) Do you have any childhood memories from before your capture? (2) What is your most important childhood memory? (3) What do you hate most about being a slave? (4) If you could have freely chosen your profession, what would it have been? (5) Have you killed a person yet? (6) What reason do you assume for you being chosen as a slave? (7) What reason do you assume for you receiving exactly the traning you received? (8) Why do you think people have slaves? (9) Do you still have hope of being free once?
15. Does your game involve a lot of hack & slash, puzzle solving, roleplaying, or a combination of the above?
mixed, depending on players/characters choices
16. Are your Players restricted to particular rulebooks and supplements, or will you be allowing access to non-standard material? What sources can Players use for their characters?
For classes, see above. For the rest, you may use everything in the SRD (except variant rules), monster manuals, PHII, Complete Series, Races of-Series, Eberron campaign setting (but no warforged), and Player's guide to Faerun (regional feats only on a case by case basis).
Spoiler: Known Locations
The following locations are potentially known to the player characters. On-premise locations are most likely known by all PCs, off-premise locations are rather known from hearing, or require at least a certain background to be known well.
Spoiler: On-Premise Locations
The Cell Blocks. The game starts in one of those. There are more than one cell block on the premises of your master. If you have counted the buildings, you know there are four of them. Your cell block contains one dozen of single cells, but most of them are empty for almost all the time. The inhabitants of your cell blocks have always been more "exotic". Currently, the four of you are the only inhabitants. You are locked in those cells every night, and sometimes also for days. The accommodation is very simple, basically sufficient to provide shelter from bad weather; your bed consists of some straw, and the remainder of the furniture is a bucket for the obvious purpose. You are not allowed to bring anything other than basic clothing into the cell block, and are only provided water during your stay there. Only rarely, you also get food served into your cells, but this only happens if you have to stay in your cell for longer periods. As expected, the cell block reeks of excretions and bodily odors. You do not know about the inside or the capacity of the other cell blocks. If you talked to their inhabitants, you may have found out that the other three cell blocks are mostly assigned to slaves by their occupation. You have heard rumors that one cell block is more luxurious than the others, but that it is preserved for slaves expecting progeny. You have no overview over the number of slaves living on premise, but it must be at least fifty but likely more. The number is so hard to estimate, because there is a rather high fluctuation, and additionally, all those "normals" look the same to most of you anyway.
The Cantina. This is the place where you receive food. The quality of the dishes differs from day to day, but actually the diet is not too bad. At least it is efficient, in the sense that you are rarely hungry, and that most of your nutrient requirements are fully satisfied. The taste cannot always live up to those standards, and often enough it gets even worse, if some sadistic guard finds it funny to pollute the meals with whatever amuses him. You are always under strong observation while eating, and are required (and checked) to return all cutlery before you leave the cantina again. As for the cell blocks, you are not allowed to bring any objects other than basic clothing in here.
The Training Halls. There are a handful of buildings serving different training purposes. You have most likely only seen the one you were trained in. There is at least a sports hall with an attached stash for training weapons and armor, and different workshops for craft training.
The Sink. This is a big building that is known to stretch out into the underground, and is the place where you do not want to stay for longer than necessary. Indeed, it is the place where all the buckets are emptied into. Strangely enough, the smell seems to be mostly contained into the building, which doesn't help when one has latrine fatigue. There are stories that slaves tried to escape through the sink, hinting that there actually may be a drain in the sink leading deep into the underground. But this is mostly known as a legend, and everyone assumes that the people did not escape but drown in there.
The inventory. This building is under constant heavy guarding, and contains a lot of equipment for the daily routines of the slaves, and their training. Most goods are not accessible to you, and even if you allowed access to some piece of equipment, it is logged, and usually strongly limited. Of course, even if your granted some access, it all still belongs to the master. You have no property, you are property. The inventory also functions as the armory.
The Mansion. Depending on your training and purpose, you may have seen the outer layers of the master's mansion. It is a high privilege to be permitted to enter the house, and before you can actually enter it, you have to go through a specific entry, where you are cleansed and appropriately clothed.
Spoiler: Off-Premise Locations
The Pits. Only some have actually seen it, but there are a lot of rumors about this despicable place. No one knows where it is, but your experiences and the stories suggest that it lies underground. If you have ever been there, then because you were part of the cruel gladiator games that are held there. You have been brought off-premise in a locked and covered cart, and where blindfolded during the trip. You were only allowed to see when you were down in the pits, where you were send to fight for your master's honor, and likely many rich people's amusements.

Re: The Uprise (Alpha Team) OOC
I will wait with my next post until every player has posted at least once.
If you would like to actually chew/claw/break through something, please make some damage rolls. The hallway is dimly lit by some burning torches which hang on the wall.
Oh, and just as a gentle reminder, please add one or two sentences describing your obvious physical and psychical traits, because you all know each other. Thanks. :)

It's a cool thing to have though, if you give it to someone that doesn't suffer from it. Never know when that might come in handy. Plus, sorry if it seems that I am taking the head, figured I would be a point man as main melee/tank. Of course, with my one hit die I am a bit squishy.

Re: The Uprise (Alpha Team) OOC
You can use it as an improvised heavy flail (-4 to attacks, two handed, 1d10 base damage, ST*1.5, bludgeoning, Critical 20/x2); I allow that you also use it on a 10ft range, but you always either use the 5ft or the 10ft range, and changing is a move action. So in comparison with your claws, your attack is -4, but your damage goes from 1d4+7 (~9.5) to 1d10+10 (~15.5).
Btw, i think you mixed up your natural attacks up a bit (or I did) : By the SRD Half-Dragon Template, your claws are your primary attacks, so they are both with full BAB, so in your case +8. Your bite is the secondary attack, so should be 5 lower or as in your case 2 lower, because you have multiattack, so it should be +6. So: Single Attack with nat weapon: One claw at +8; full attack with nat weapons: two claws at +8, one bite at +6.
Also: "If armed with a weapon, it usually uses the weapon as its primary attack and its bite as a natural secondary attack. If it has a hand free, it uses a claw as an additional natural secondary attack."
And finally regarding ST to damage: "A creature’s primary attack damage includes its full Strength modifier (1½ times its Strength bonus if the attack is with the creature’s sole natural weapon) and is given first. Secondary attacks add only ½ the creature’s Strength bonus and are given second in the parentheses." Oh, and in dnd it's always "round down", so your bite should deal 1d6+3.
So, if I am not mistaken, your full attack is: Two Claws +8/+8, 1d4+7 each; one bite +6, 1d6+3.
Or if you exchange the claws by the flail: One flail attack +4, 1d10+10; one bite +6, 1d6+3.
Agreed? The only way of properly dealing with me:

I think Ker'anson is going to be limited to support spells until 4th level, since raining arcane destruction (which I'd love to do) only really becomes possible with Scorching Ray.

Edit: If you have any questions regarding the structure of the site, ask. I try to keep it all a bit more cinematic at this stage, that is, not supplying a precise grid with the building positions. If you want to do something or go somewhere, announce it without too many worries. I will either tell if it's completely suicidal given the site plan in my head, or I will simply adapt the site plan so that it isn't.Last edited by Blinkbear; 2016-06-23 at 03:17 AM.
