How exactly does Katakros work? His warscroll is confusing as bloop-or maybe I'm just dumb. :P

And if I don't want to run him, what's some good next steps for the army?

Wow, those Slaves to Darkness look good. I echo the surprise at new warrior and knight sculpts. And a battletome at last! Guess I should hurry up and finish the ones I already have before these come out:D Might have to give that lord a bigger axe though...

Also, page 49, new thread title ideas?

Seraphon have a 1.0 battletome without allegiance abilities, Kharadron Overlords & Tzeentch have 1.5 one, and Nurgle, Legions of Nagash, Daughters of Khaine and Deepkin have a 1.9 one. (released before aos 2.0, but definitly written in mind with them.)

he's pretty simple. He is accompanied by 4 companions who each have a companion ability and a number of Nadirite attacks. When Katakros suffers wounds, you lose companions. For example, when he has suffered 1-3 wounds he cannot use the Gnosis Scrollbearer Companion ability and the scrollbearer can't use the dagger attacks. Note that Katakros gets more deadly in combat the more he takes damage.

If you have the Feast of Bones set the next step would be getting more Mortek Guard. If you are using them as anvil you want at least 20 as a center block. (also, only Morteks and the Cavalry are battleline, for some stupid reason. )

Characterwise you want a Boneshaper. He can heal 3 wounds or restore a total of 3 wounds worth of slain models (aka 3 Mortek Guard or 1 cavalry) He's also a wizard so he can cast the Bonereaper support spells.

The other character you want is the Liege-Kavalos. He gives you 2 Disciple points (1 from being a Hero, 1 from being a Liege) and has the My Will Command to give +1 attack to a Bonereaper unit. He's also not too shabby in combat.

Darkoath (aka the marauder parts of the old Warriors of Chaos) haven't yet been confirmed for the new StD tome. They almost certainly are, but it's not yet 100%. EDIT Actually, my mistake, they mention barbarian hordes.

We're missing some light elves (the new high elves) that have been mentioned in the fluff, which I suppose kinda counts.

I'm really looking forward to the new StD book. I have a Tzeentch army, but I much prefer sticking to mortals only rather than spamming daemons and tzaangors.

I can do a full review later, but it's pretty impressive. Of the brand new armies for AoS, it feels the most well-rounded with no big stinker units.

Bonereapers are frustrating to list build with. (or maybe I'm just too used to building in 280 point value increments)

Currently think 3 min size death rider units will be peoples go to battleline option.

Morghasts went up in points and were not worth it at 200, are probably the only true stinker units in the book.

most of the Battalions are awkward and not all that powerful.

I am rather dissapointed that the bonereapers go back to the needlessly limiting battlelines after GW seemed to step back from the whole battleline limitations for a bit.

As for thread titles, I propose "Gargantuan Threadwriters" in honor of GW's aos faction naming scheme.

Kinda sad the Legion of Sacrament is basically gone now though. Since it implies terrible things for the Legions of Nagash range.

Eh, I disagree. LoN still has true rezzing (you can stop OBR, FEC, and Nighthaunt rezzing by wiping the unit), Graveyards, good artifacts, and honestly some bonkers spells. OBR doesn't replace it, just a different option.

Talking about the Fluff. The Legion of Sacrament is gone. As is Arkhans Black Hand. They were remade into the Null Myriad.

Rules wise, LoN is still good. With the Legion of Sacrament outright gone lorewise, that implies the rest of the LoN is going to follow.

Ah, haven't read the fluff yet. Interesting that they would phase out a faction like that, wonder what it means going forward. Hopefully we don't see current Battletome factions getting Brettonia'd, but anything is possible.

I'm not sure if you need Arcane Command, but other than that its solid enough. You might want to wait with declaring the legion until we see wether or not GW nukes the Petrifex in the errata or not.

I think it's a good start, but there's a chance you might want more Guard and/or a Harvester to beef up your frontline. This is nice and mobile with the Cavalry, but a fast aggro hit might chew through it more quickly than you imagine. I'm really interested to see how it plays out though!

So, GW has just announced they're bringing the Old World back. Yes, really.

Long term project for an equivalent to the Horus Heresy for AoS. So dedicated team, but not the main focus of releases. Won't be out for a few years.

    Huh.

I mean, it would be nice if this meant Brettonians and Tomb Kings and et cetera came back in some form, but there's really not much to go on yet and it's definitely way too soon to get any of our hopes up.

I wonder how much of this is thanks to the games like Total Warhammer doing so well?

Probably a lot. I think GW also saw Mantic and 9th age doing well so it wants to join in.

I am far more interested in the Hysh mentions though. Could that mean the Light Elves finally show up?

I have no issue with them bringing back the Old World. It's great for the people who miss it, and for people who want another Rank'n'Flank game.
But really, who announces a game with just the logo and a "come back in two years" sign? I'm sure there'll be beta rules and what not, but it seems just silly this far out.

And Praet I agree, that tease for a new faction is delicious. With most of the factions up to date, I'm raring for more new stuff!

Fair, but then again I felt like that was quite dragged out as well. Excited either way, especially if there's a way to double-dip models for two games (maybe square trays with circle holes for ranks).

That sounds delightful. Square trays with round holes would be interesting, and also amusing to me on a personal level... though probably a drill and a few sheets of MDF would be far cheaper.

I'm attending a tournament in January and want to plan my list far enough in advance that I can get it all painted.

    Skarbrand - 380
    *Bloodsecrator - 120
    Slaughterpriest - 100
    *Slaughterpriest - 100
    *Bloodstoker - 80

    5x Blood Warriors - 100
    *5x Blood Warriors - 100
    *5x Blood Warriors - 100
    10x Bloodreavers - 70
    *10x Bloodreavers - 70
    6x Bloodcrushers - 280
    *5x Wrathmongers - 140

Gore Pilgrims batallion - 140 (Increase the range of the Bloodsecrator to 24").
    Skull Altar - 0

    That leaves 220 points.
    • My preference for what to spend that on is 10x Flesh Hounds or 20x Bloodletters just because I already have those painted, but I'm tempted by some Hexgorger Skulls - it's a team tournament, and I can make my niche "no magic allowed", possibly with Karanak as well.
    • The basic vibe is to get lots and lots of mortal wounds out of Skarbrand, and ideally also the bloodcrushers. With a Goretide charge as well, thats three fast units hitting very hard turn one.
    • One possibility is to use the Goretide command ability with the Bloodsecrator, and get a first-turn-charge with bloodreavers or blood warriors (in which case, the best thing to do is to combine the units I think.)
    • Another option is to go Reapers of Vengeance and use the command ability to let Skarbrand pile in and attack again. They also have more "no wizards allowed" abilities.

Stuff I haven't yet painted is marked with a *: my hope is to not have any more than this to paint so ideally the extra 220 points should be any combination of Bloodletters/Flesh Hounds/Herald of Blood on foot (he has always sucked, though)/Karanak.

    Greetings.

A customer is wanting to start a Blades of Khorne army. What would you suggest as first purchases? He is set on having either a Blood thirster or Skarbrand in the army, but beyond that would like to get guidance on how to start and what to build.

One of the great things about Khorne is that there's three Start Collecting boxes and between them you get nigh on all of the range. I would just suggest whichever of those is his favourite - but if he wants any Mortal stuff, the Goremad Warband (or whatever its called) has a lot of stuff that it's not really possible to get anywhere else. Also if he can get it, half of Wrath and Rapture is a good starter to the daemon side of the list.

Skarbrand is very powerful: He synchs up well with a Bloodsecrator for an extra attack (so 8 more mortal wounds).
