Trying to alter Warlock to fit better into sci-fi/post-apocalyptic setting
I'm trying to fit warlocks into post-apocalyptic science-fiction in a way as far as possible from traditional magic as the game presents it by default, and I was thinking of a following alteration to Eldritch Blast.
Eldritch Blaster
Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 120 feet
Components: S, M (Blaster Pistol)
A beam of crackling energy streaks toward a creature within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target, using your Dexterity modifier for the attack roll. On a hit, the target takes 1d10 force damage.
(Otherwise the spell works as normal.)
Feedback on the above would be welcome.
As well as ideas regarding the warlock class as a whole. The overall idea is pretty much all over the place, because the setting doesn't have deities nor alignments in use and therefore otherworldly patrons would seem out of place too.Last edited by Arkhios; 2016-07-18 at 02:42 AM.
Please be mindful of what you say in public; sadly not all can handle sarcasm or The Internet Credibility.

Maybe this can help you: Itīs a patron for Dungeon Crawl Classic based on the aliens of Mars Attack. Essentially, their "gifts" come from science experiments and technological devices beyond the comprehension of the backward humans (but maybe not the player himself).

Re: Trying to alter Warlock to fit better into sci-fi/post-apocalyptic setting
Well, for a more sci-fi feel, we have THIS, and THIS.
That being said, in a recent game I played a plane-displaced Brotherhood of Steel Scribe, and all it required was a bit of simple reflavoring for the warlock. He was a "Great old one" warlock, I used eldritch blast as his Laser Rifle, and all of his spells were tech devices or grenades.
in any case, ESPECIALLY in Post-apoc, great old one warlocks as they are wouldn't really be out of place, so long as you explain it away as literal aliens and super powers.
