Re: OOTS #1045 - The Discussion Thread
!
Wild comic appears!
Okay, honestly I was kind-of hoping he would get some sort of laser-beam like Fierce Deity Link. That would be pretty cool. I think he was hoping for that, too.Favorite sports:

MR. GREENHILL YOU OLD BASTARD! It's good to see you after all this time. Well not good, but it's nice- well maybe not nice... Well, I look forward to hearing what you have to say anyways.

And here i thought he'd say "You know, if you wanted to throw fire balls, you should have become a wizard like I told you to". :P
Attention LotR fans
Spoiler: LotRThe scouring of the Shire never happened. That's right. After reading books I, II, and III, I stopped reading when the One Ring was thrown into Mount Doom. The story ends there. Nothing worthwhile happened afterwards. Middle-Earth was saved.

I like the stick figures in the book. They look familiar ...

Hopefully, Pop is here to help and not just snark.

Wow, haven't seen Eugene in a really long time! I wonder whether the dynamic between him and Roy will be any different now...

I usually don't like Eugene's appearances, but this one I will make an exception for. Love it!

Re: OOTS #1045 - The Discussion Thread
Eugene. One thumb down.
Cheap onanism joke. One thumb down.
Roy working on green flame of awesomeness and getting some control. One thumb up.
Roy trying to improvise ranged weapon. One thumb up.
Net detail score: zero. Filler strip.
Overall score: one thumb up, because .. I am enjoying the new art style more each time, and always enjoy the green glow on that sword.

Re: OOTS #1045 - The Discussion Thread
Heh, it's funny. Eugene always made a case of Roy not being a wizard like him, and now he's learning how to use his Wisdom score into practical use of his new weapon feats. But knowing Eugene, he might tell Roy how impractical and overall sucky Weapons of Legacy are.
(Roy, Eugene, and Roy's Archon played a DnD game while waiting on the clouds, after all)

Re: OOTS #1045 - The Discussion Thread
Nothing quite like the feeling of checking OOTS during the day, seeing no new strip up, then coming back an hour later for some other reason and finding a new strip!
It baffles me that people STILL complain about "filler" after all this time.
It's not exactly Greyskull, but it'll do.Last edited by Ruck; 2016-07-19 at 01:59 PM.

Oh, wow! I didn't see him... appearing back. Well played, Giant! Well played!
And to Roy: You have to learn to walk before you run, but it seems you have gotten the walk part in this strip. :)The abilities of the Force: Control, Alter, Delete.

Re: OOTS #1045 - The Discussion Thread
This is interesting. Im gonna guess that the whole "existence of the world is in peril" situation is why Pops is able to appear. Or maybe he could have shown up but didn't bother until now because he's Eugene. I guess it is too much to hope that he will have anything helpful to say.

Re: OOTS #1045 - The Discussion Thread
*rubs temples* If I never again have to read someone using "filler" to describe something they didn't care for, it'll be too soon.
On a more positive note, Roy's effort face in panel 3 is so cute. And the flame glow effects look as good as ever.

Re: OOTS #1045 - The Discussion Thread
And his things that make it filler have absolutely nothing to do with being filler. They have to do with jokes and characters he doesn't like.
Eugene being present does not in any way make a comic filler or not filler under any rational definition of the term that I can see.Last edited by Doug Lampert; 2016-07-19 at 02:05 PM.

Re: OOTS #1045 - The Discussion Thread
I had interpreted it as a target that Roy painted on the wall, on the off chance he managed to activate a ranged attack.
I'm guessing that Eugene appeared in the room, rather than floated through a circle. (I don't imagine Roy would have expected enough help from him to bother conjuring him on purpose, even if he could.)Last edited by klarg1; 2016-07-19 at 02:13 PM.

Re: OOTS #1045 - The Discussion Thread
Fantastic.
Utterly and completely fantastic.
And, yes, the irony of Mr. "Hit things with a sharp pointed stick" learning to cast spells the fighter way, is pretty much begging Eugene to show up. And thus he has.
