Ghost Dad was actually trying to be helpful, and reigned it the whole sarcastic-fathering technique (a little). I almost forgot how this anti-Xykon thing got rolling!
Vaarsuvius has a little time for reflection. Cannot be helpful to plan reconciliation knowing that you can be called upon to do the bidding of a demon at a future date to be determined.

It has been a while since I have felt bad for V, but I am sure that the "wishy washy" stuff becomes a strength for V and the rest of the order, and not a detriment to the party!

As far as we know, the sword wasn't magic (except maybe for the regular +x bonus) before it got reforged with starmetal, so seems a bit off to blame Eugene for that. Plenty of other things he can be blamed for, I feel, no need to make up additional stuff!

I like that the everyone-else-has-to-be-asleep thing goes all the way back to comic #15. I don't *think* Rich had this in mind at the time (said something about how the story didn't turn into an epic until around the 100th strip), but it's cool that he wrote the comic to incorporate that.

We know there is an upper limit, but not what the limit is. I'm pretty sure the limit's being hidden for the same reason as the identity of the wands Haley bought.

The starmetal was an upgrade, but the sword was his ancestral sword and the family was named for it even before that. We don't know how much is from the starmetal and how much was already there. There's no reason to believe, for example, that Eugene can communicate with Roy because of the starmetal.

Hmm - so Eugene's manifestation can be blocked by Roy failing a will save. That might be pertinent info.

You'd think he'd at least have heard some kind of voice yelling at him in his "dream." But then again, Malack and Z couldn't get Nale to wake up either despite yelling and tugging at him.

Eugene can't just go get Roy's grandfather. He's in the proper afterlife. Eugene isn't and isn't allowed to go. Heck, I'm not sure Roy's grandfather can LEAVE!

There's no reason to believe, for example, that Eugene can communicate with Roy because of the starmetal.

It was stated that the Starmetal would give the sword a 25% upgrade, which Roy translated to a +5 enchantment. I think the implication of this is that the sword was +4 before. I could be wrong of course, but that would be a sufficient, if not stellar, weapon for a fighter as accomplished as Horace Greenhilt, who apparently had ridiculous feats to back him up as well.
