Dragon Ball In the Playground OOC IV: Planetary Annihilation for Fun and Profit

So i've had this idea rattling around in my head for days, and I gotta write it down somewhere, of a new species we could potentially encounter.

As easy as it is for people to dismiss, it is true that galactic and intergalactic civilization has existed for millions of years. Thousands of species, nations, empires, kingdoms, federations, and confederacies have come and gone. Risen and fallen. Amidst all that is the technology. People from all species and walks of life can communicate across light-years and spread information at the speed of thought. Ideas spread and propagate, from the meaningful to the pointless. Over the millennia, this information ecosystem has taken on a life of its own, where ideas have taken on characteristics of living organisms. Memes, they're often called. Amidst these memetic entities, one particular classification of them has gained sentience.

These sentient memes, or Emmes, as they prefer to be called, are memetic organisms of pure thought that exist in the minds of those who are aware of their existence. Far from being a hive-mind, each Emme is a singular entity that exists in the mind of one single host at a time. The Emme relies upon the host for sustenance, but it is far from a parasitical relationship. The Emme has no ability to exert control over their host's mind or thought, and is only able to telepathically communicate with the host. Beyond receiving the host's thoughts or having their suggestions followed, the Emme has no way of interacting with or exerting control over the material world.

Emmes are able to jump from host-to-host at-will at instantaneous speeds. Individuals tested reported statistically insignificant lag-time regardless of distance, from as little as a few inches to tens of millions of light-years. As suggested earlier, individuals who become the host of an Emme are aware of the Emme entering their mind. The sensation, as reported by multiple unrelated individuals, is that of having a "eureka" moment where one is suddenly struck by an idea of a creature whose name and personality they are instantly familiar with. Conversely, this information is lost and forgotten once the Emme jumps to a different host. Emmes themselves, as interpreted for by volunteer hosts, do not suffer this limitation and are able to remember their hosts as reasonably as any other organic creature is.

Emmes will often jump to a new host before their current Host dies, sometimes even moments before. They also demonstrate having effectively unlimited life-spans. However not every organism is able to host a Meme. Hosts seem to be limited to sentient beings possessing conscious thought. Furthermore, each Emme is tied to an actual meme. It is theorized that this meme is the closest approximation to a physical manifestation an Emme can have. Anyone who encounters this meme becomes a potential host for the Emme, who is now counsciously aware of the new potential Host's existence and can enter and exit their mind at will. The manifestation of this meme varies wildly, is specific to a single Emme, and can be encountered anywhere. Some Emme memes are humorous images spread on the Hypernet, others are viral videos. Some are discordant noises played in sequence, while others are more subtle, such as a single subsonic note played, or the smell of a specific culinary dish. Emmes have the ability to change their memes, but it does require effort and a cooperative Host.

For example, the post you are currently reading (yes, this one) is the meme of one such Emme, and by having read this far, you are now a potential host for me to inhabit should I tire of this one. My name is Ginyu by the way, the pleasure of meeting you someday soon is all mine.

I like it, my idea for a Ginyu-like character was to simply have one of the Empire's Segmentum Governor's being a guy who got body-switched and now is host to a guy wanting to body-switch with Hailing to try attain ultimate power as a traitor, y'know, do the one evil traitorous thing Ginyu would never think to do. But this sounds more interesting.

and oh god, the Androids are so vulnerable to this its crazy. now its making me wonder if all those Chuck Norris jokes are the manifestation of an Emme.

Yeah, the idea that Ginyu's Namek body isn't his original, has a lot of merit. His body switching technique is probably just a high level ki technique that he somehow developed. I'm guessing he somehow just kept switching bodies from less powerful to more powerful bodies as time went on until he got to his Namek body, yet for some reason doesn't try to switch with Freeza? Either he decided to be loyal for once, or he just didn't think the opportunity ever arose for him to betray Freeza.

Either that or as a memetic organism he thought he would live forever as long as he was quick about getting out of his old body fast.

There is only two things I can see that are inconsistent with this or might be pose a bit of a problem:

1. Ginyu switches with a frog, yet can't switch out of being a frog without "change now!" so either he has trained and advanced to the point where he can possess non-sentient beings, or the frog is sentient- not something to rule out given the female frog having a clear gender identity, that and an alien frog randomly being sapient would be pretty Toriyama-esque. "Change now" is Ginyu's (latest and last) meme, likely an audible meme rather than one that can be read. Without an ability to speak it, he's stuck.

IIRC, everyone in the spirit world perceives everyone else who does not keep their body, recognizes the soul in particular, or still has a body (The ogres, kais, etc) as being those formless white clouds. Given that they have no physical form, they'll be perceived as one of the nameless white souls. And no, if one were to die (say, their current host dies and the Emme has no other potential hosts) the soul of the host and the Emme are separate.

And yes, barring any reason to the contrary, nothing prevents them from entering a Kai's or even a true deity's mind. Though I suspect Lord Beerus has a way of attacking and destroying memetic creatures directly.

any ideas for like......uh....filler we could do while we wait? I've got a few character ideas but I don't want to introduce too many at once, and my own ideas for villains from alternate timelines, but many of these are intended to be farther down the road after Hailing, much too strong.

I don't want to like, speed up the escape thing or anything because that would be kind of jerkish. I mean I wish we could move on, but I'd rather have Hawkflight back to post because she was waiting for this part apparently.

an army of 100 TP'ers able to breathe in space, most of them arcosians, but some of them androids, a few of them Majins and a couple of them Hit's Race. lead by a half-Arcosian named Droplet.

and a bunch of headcanon about power levels, how the Kai's government works, and a bunch of hypothetical alternate timelines, some of which are where villains win, and how the Talsaigans work.

These crystalline, plantlike aliens, despite their large size were extremely weak, physically, with an almost non-existent ability to use Ki, and incredibly slow movements. They made up for this shortcoming with their vast psychic power and overwhelming intellect. One such being, a malevolent entity, found itself on Earth. The locals deifying the abilities the alien demonstrated, having no ability to understand them. Their "Old God" demanded sacrifices from its followers to feed on their souls. Even centuries later after it has entered hibernation, cults of the Old God still menace Earth's civilizations, like an infestaton of cockroaches. However, after centuries of hibernation, the "Old God" has begun to stir, and those in its proximity are drawn into the Old God's waking nightmare.

The Time Patrol and Red Planet Army fighting it out is something that'll have to wait till 23 & co are away from Mars.

The mad cultists and the lone Wuxia Kai sound like things which could feature in the Martial Arts tournament. Or the cultist could maybe kidnap the old man's daughter, thinking she will give birth to reincarnation of their plant god, forcing Lucifer to save the day.

Yeah, I'm really sorry about that. I guess ... well, confession time, I've kind of hit a bit of a rough patch since Thanksgiving. Things went a bit south with my family, and I still haven't fully recovered from that. That, coupled with my running out of my antidepressants for a couple of days, has basically had me burying my head in Pokemon Moon, shiny-hunting* and watching GT Live while things get back in order. (Well, that and Pokemon Moon is just so good, but that alone wouldn't do it.) So it kinda slipped my mind, my apologies. I'll try to get a post in as soon as I can.

*Yes, I did find a shiny, but it wasn't while shiny-hunting. It was a random Gumshoos I found early-game, and I practically freaked out when I saw it.

Ah, understandable, those all sound harsh, and I've been playing a lot of Pokemon Moon as well. Its one of the better entries in pokemon for sure. Ah, understandable, those all sound harsh, and I've been playing a lot of Pokemon Moon as well.

It doesn't help that one of my friends is running a D&D game that features suicide as a major plot point, and that just triggers my depression all over again and I really should just leave but I like the rest of the game so much and I want to play with my friends. >_<

It's one of the better entries in pokemon for sure. It has a good amount of range from silliness to seriousness that makes it stand out. and Leech Life is actually a good move now! Leech Life. While Mimikyu is actually a very good choice to use in battle rather than just being completely adorable.

YES. I'm hunting/breeding for a perfect-IV Mimikyu now to use competitively. I can't decide between Z-Splash Mimikyu or Wide Lens Swords Dance Mimikyu. And the story was pretty great, although it got a bit too real at times. Did you fight all of the Eeveelution Trainers? And that scene with the lady and her Machamp at the first graveyard....

......and how is Android 22, Masala supposed to hear about any of that when they are in Ackon Cahuak: the top of a south-american mountain range that Yama went to be secretive, or 23 who is ON MARS? Like we're not asking about the hook itself, but how our characters are supposed to hear about this hook at all given our current situation?

......whatever, I can just use this to test if my Wuxia Shin-jin is a good character to include or not. Masala seems too silly for this, while Yankar....he is incredibly fantastic at punching things, but incredibly bad at anything else, so....not a good person to solve a mystery. I could use Shanakan instead but the only way I could see him knowing about this is if he got a fate warning about it. or I could have the four robots made by Lord Gero stop by (Teacher, Butler Maid, and Defender the First to be specific) as well...so many options....

(its actually pretty easy to get away with a lot of subtle stuff in DB, simply because all you have to do is hide your Ki and not output too much energy while your doing stuff. If the Kai's weren't around to warn Goku and Vegeta that Beerus was coming, Beerus would've arrived and everyone on the planet would've been screwed simply because no one would've gotten the memo that the purple cat destroys planets when you disrespect him, heck a big part of why Androids were serious threats was because no one knew when they would be coming and could not judge their strength. There is no better way to ensure a plans success in Dragon Ball than to make sure that it can't be sensed by the closest planet busting fighter. Its why any plot where the main characters can do anything about it has them sensing an output of energy)

......well to be honest, I want to try out the shinjin wuxia warrior instead the robots or Shanakan, this seems like the moment to do so, something needs to start happening, so I'm gonna post this up real quick:

He is serene and humble, eating only what he needs and using his powers for when they are needed. He has rejected the title of “god” for the sake of being a humble traveling warrior, he is polite to everyone and shows kindness where he can. He of course has his own opinions on the Kais and how they run things, but at the same time haven’t forgotten what they taught him and thus he works to try and prove that one can influence the world in positive ways without messing it up.

Shin-Jin Tarasai is destined to become the next Northern Supreme Kai. This is just fact, no matter how much he tries to deny it. A young Shin-Jin, he was born only one thousand years ago to finally start replacing the Supreme Kais lost to Majin Buu, along with three others to learn as apprentices from the current Supreme Kai, who was once the East Supreme Kai but is now the Grand Supreme Kai in all but title. Of course, the obvious questions began popping up: Why only sit here and watch? Why not do more to bring justice? All those dangerous thoughts. Of course the answers are the same: because we must be wise, because we cannot interfere in what potentially might change things for the better without our help, because we cannot show favoritism, because we are not Gods of Destruction and thus do not punish those under us. Leave such a job to Beerus, they say.

The Kais job, is to Create. To Preserve. To Guide. To Watch. Yet Tarasai feels empty. He feels guilty that all he can do is watch. What powerless existence is to just and watch civilization go by while atrocities occur, sipping tea, not doing anything to make it better themselves? What sad excuse is this "wisdom" to not interfere? Was too much caution and wisdom simply cowardice in disguise? He was too humble to think he had all the answers. So he respectfully bowed to the Supreme Kai and said "I must apologize, Sensei. I am giving up the way of the Kais, the way of godhood. I must search for answers myself, go a journey and see where it takes me. I will walk, lowly and humble through the universe saving it one village at a time to search for my answers. I hope you can forgive me." The Supreme Kai thought about this for a moment knowing that all Kais were destined from the day they were born to fulfill the role of Kai, then allowed him to leave.

Thus does Shin-Jin Tarasai don a normal flowing white qipao, unadorned. Thus does he only use his matter materialization to conjure only rice and water. Thus does he only use his Instantaneous Movement to go from one planet to the other once he is done walking across it. Thus does he fight evil one step at a time, hoping to find his answer by living humbly among mortals

Fighting Style Of the Kais:
His stance and fighting style are very formal, practiced and elegant. He is trained in the ways of the Kais, and thus emphasizes taking down your opponent with minimum use of force, ki efficiency, spirituality, tranquility in battle, defensive moves, and most of all, grace. He has various physical strikes to take down his foes non-lethally.

Superb Ki Control:
Has finely tuned senses for detecting ki and suppressing his own divine ki so that other gods cannot detect it, as well being able to charge and recover his ki very fast. Furthermore his attacks are so well disciplined and controlled that he doesn't destroy the environment around him when he fights or powers up, and can regulate his ki to fight evenly with people less powerful than him. He barely has any battle aura.

Healing Technique:
He can heal other organic beings, does not extend to cyborgs or androids.

Matter Materialization Of the Kais:
As a Shin-Jin and thus one of the Gods of Creation, he has a natural talent for creating things which he can do effortlessly, unlike other races this ability can eventually grow into the power to create new planets and even the beginnings of life.

Kiai:
Tarasai rarely uses Ki Blasts. Instead he uses Kiai as his normal ranged attacks, basically shockwaves generated by pulsing ki through the air. Because of his great ki-control he can fine tune these shockwaves to attack in creative and deadly ways:
-Shockwave Palm: A basic technique, he basically does a jedi force push at his foe
-Shockwave Sphere: a defensive technique where sends out a shockwave in 360 degrees to send his foes flying away from him and deflect ki blast attacks.
-Distance Fist: He focuses his Kiai to basically use his melee attacks from a distance.
-Explosive Glare: His eyes flash for a moment before an explosion of Kiai erupts near his foe out of nowhere, with no other indication that an attack is happening.

Telepathy:
Is well-versed in long range telepathic communication and basic mental combat.

Telekinesis:
mostly useful for carrying things around and such, in combat he only uses it to try and grab his opponent in thin air to take them down non-lethally, or to trip them so that he can gain the upper hand.

Flight:
he flies quite gracefully.

Instantaneous Movement:
How he gets around. Is basically the Kai's much better version of Instant Transmission.

Flowing River Dragon Fireworks:
His only ki blast attack, he shapes his ki into a big blue serpent-like dragon that gracefully lashes out at his foe like flowing water then explodes into a shower of smaller ki blasts that then explode as well, much like fireworks. He uses this attack as a last resort. Even then, he has enough ki control that the explosions barely damage the environment.

It really is just a cue for anyone who'd be opposed to a man being shot with a crossbow stepping up. Like, say, a wandering wuxia warrior, or a duo of time patrollers looking for Lucifer's son.

Hey guys, how do feel about this for a long term goal after Hailing:

Since the timeline is becoming Universe 13, that means its going exist right alongside the other 12 Universes. This means that since Zeno is going to make a multiversal tournament of all Universes, that Universe 13 will have to be one of them. And I'm thinking that Zeno will probably be annoyed and confused if U13 Beerus and Supreme Kai are the same gods as their U7 counterparts- and that if we don't change them within the 500 years, he will destroy them along with Universe 13 for being the same and thus confusing when the multiversal tournament comes. So to save U13 when that comes, simply show up with replacements that differentiate them.

This gives a good reason to both interact with and change certain canon characters in a logical manner, climb to Super levels of heights and work this all into the wider universe of Dragon Ball. While still make U13 a distinct universe from the rest, because it requires Zeno think it different enough for him not to be annoyed by it being a duplicate of U7. Meaning to preserve the timeline, we'd actually have to make it different enough to be its own thing in the tournament.
