Re: Cabin in the Wood [OOC Thread]
The assist negates the disadvantage, so you got a 10.
Remember for the future you can choose to roll 2d10 instead of 1d20 for skills and tools you are proficient with.

Re: Cabin in the Wood [OOC Thread]
Sariel's Natural Explorer will actually allow the group to ignore the difficult terrain issues because both grasslands and forest are her Natural Explorer terrains, but I will leave that to Black Socks to RP.
I will need a constitution saving throw from everyone as you travel through the rapidly intensifying storm, as even with the ranger's help, it is hours to the edge of the forest. You need a 12 to not take a level of exhaustion.

Re: Cabin in the Wood [OOC Thread]
Ah. So, then, would you be OK with doing a rejection scene between Sariel and Jenara? It could be a good source of angst later on for Sariel....

Re: Cabin in the Wood [OOC Thread]
No shelter until you get to the forest. Just lots of grass and a large open plain. IC update will be later tonight (I have a Monday tabletop right after work).
You get to the forest edge without further incident, so feel free to RP (you have a few hours before you get there).Last edited by Pope Scarface; 2016-09-12 at 05:16 PM.

Re: Cabin in the Wood [OOC Thread]
Going to add an exhaustion list to the 1st post when I get back from work today so it is easier to keep track. At level 1 exhaustion, you have disadvantage on ability checks (not attacks or saves).

Re: Cabin in the Wood [OOC Thread]
I've been working out some things for PbP. The way I'll be working initiative is that I average the party initiative bonus +10, as I did with the first fight. Each PC with advantage on initiative adds +1 to the average, and each PC with disadvantage adds -1 to the average.
Still working on what to do with portents and inspiration, but the current encounter in theory should be roleplaying, not combat.
Thoughts on Bardic Inspiration / Cutting Words to make it more PbP friendly:
Bardic Inspiration: As a bonus action, you grant an inspiration die (which you roll with your post) to an ally's attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws for one turn. You can maintain this as a concentration effect for up to ten minutes.
Cutting Words: As a bonus action, you subtract an inspiration die (which you roll with your post) from an enemy's attack rolls, ability checks, and damage rolls for one turn. You can maintain this as a concentration effect for up to ten minutes.
Combat Inspiration: As a bonus action, you grant an inspiration die (which you roll with your post) to an ally's weapon damage and armor class for one turn. You can maintain this as a concentration effect for up to ten minutes.
Same for Portent:
Portent can only be used on rolls actively made by the diviner (so not rolls made by the ST on the behalf of the diviner), or on rolls the diviner forces another creature to roll with his action. This is a downgrade, so to make up for it, portent rolls can be refreshed as a short rest instead of a long rest, as long as some kind of divination ritual is performed (reading tea leaves, tarot, dice, etc.). You can choose to refresh, or not, any number of unused portent rolls you wish.
These are not houserules yet; I am soliciting input first.Last edited by Pope Scarface; 2016-09-13 at 08:55 PM.

Re: Cabin in the Wood [OOC Thread]
Maintaining the Inspirations as a concentration effect is too much, I think. What about if they cast a spell that requires concentration? Concentration is one of the major balancing features for spells in this edition and making inspiration work like that severely nerfs it.
Cutting Words uses a Reaction and ruling it into a bonus action conflicts with the intent of the feature.
For Portent, that's an interesting take on it. But if I were you, I'd be more worried that I can manipulate 2 rolls per short rest. That seems too strong, at first glance.
You know, a simple solution to all of the above is, if everyone is cool with it, the DM can roll purely offline and per round we can announce if we want to mess with said offline rolls. As long as you narrate what the actions taken were (and the effect of the actions after everyone gets to post their actions during the round) we can make intelligent meaningful decisions on which roll to mess with. As long as not everyone says they want to nerf a roll at once haha
