Default Goliath Paragon (3 level racial paragon class)

    Goliath Paragon

Hailing from nomadic tribes of hunter gatherers, goliath paragons are powerful warriors well suited to their mountain homes.

Adventures: Most goliath paragons are not adventurers, instead taking on the role of chieftain, or hunter, of leader in their native tribes. Those that do adventure are usually exiles. Some hope to find acceptance into another goliath tribe, or even found their own, through deeds of legend and daring. Those goliath paragons who are not exiles are those who were sent on a mission by their tribe and ended up so fascinated by the outside world they returned to it with wanderlust and a desire to see the wonders of the world in all its varied forms.

Characteristics: Goliath paragons are warriors one and all, powerfully built and heavy of blow. While they may not always match a dedicated warrior in combat they have above average maneuverability, tougher flesh, and know how to make more of their size than other warriors even among their kin.

Alignment: Goliath paragons tend a little less strongly towards Chaos than other goliaths. While they share their kind's wanderlust, they are normally among the most focused on the needs of the tribe as a whole, and its importance over the individual. This also tends to steer them away from Evil although Evil goliath paragons are not unheard of.

Religion: Goliath paragons typically indulge more in the nature worship of goliath druids than the growing pantheonic movement of their clerics. After all goliath paragons eventually learn to see the spirits of the natural world, and they are on occasion encountered in hunting even without such second sight. Those goliath paragons which turn to the gods typically worship the whole pantheon as is the norm for goliaths, but show special favor to Kavaki. Exiled goliath paragons may become champions of Kuliak instead seeing all exiles as their new tribe to be protected at all costs.

Background: Goliath paragons are often marked from birth, though many do not realize it. The spirits of the mountain seem to favor these paragons, they take to hunting, to goliath sports and all aspects of a goliath's life. Those goliath paragons which are exiles suffered a rare misfortune, the breaking of a limb, or a particularly devastating disease, in their life, often the only misfortune they can name to it, or political rivalry gone awry.

Races: Goliath paragons get along with other races about the norm for their goliaths. Some exiles with particularly limited wanderlust find their new homes in dwarven cities, serving as guards and auxiliary soldiers and earning through strength of arms their place in the dwarven city and in so doing aiding their old tribe (and goliaths in general) by fostering a better relationship with the mountain dwelling smiths. With their stubbornness and pride they have poorer relations with giants than most, advocating taking their large weapons by force if they are so desirable, but rather face them in battle to start than find themselves betrayed; many goliath paragons eventually go the route of goliath liberator.

    Game Rule Information:
Goliath Paragons have the following game statistics.
Ability Scores: Goliath paragons value strength above all other ability scores. Constitution allows them to survive longer in combat, but those goliath paragons that choose to take advantage of their bonus greatbow proficiency might find Dexterity a valuable investment. As always Wisdom is valuable for its role in supplementing their poor Will saves, and Intelligence aids in skills. Charisma is of use if a goliath wants to capitalize on the benefits of their Auspicious Marking with other goliaths and blanket bonus on opposed skill checks.
    Alignment: Any.
    Hit Dice: d12.
    Starting Wealth: As barbarian.
    Starting Age: As barbarian.

    Class Skills:
The changeling paragon's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Balance (Dex), Cimb (Str), Craft (Int), Handle Animal (Cha), Intimidate (Cha), Jump (Str), Knowledge (nature) (Int), Listen (Wis), Profession (Wis), Sense Motive (Wis), Spot (Wis), Survival (Wis), and Swim (Str).

The following are all class features of the Goliath Paragon:

Weapon and Armor Proficiencies: Goliath paragons learn the art of weaponry used by their tribe and in the hunt with great ease, taking to them naturally even as they learn the limited armors of their people. Goliath paragons are proficient in simple weapons except crossbows, as well as battleaxes, bolas, goliath greathammers (RoS), greataxes, greatbow (CW, includes composite), greatclubs, greatspears (CW), greatswords, handaxes, kukri, light hammers, longbows (including composite), longswords, mauls (CW), nets, shields (as weapons), short swords, shortbows (including composite), throwing axes, throwing hammers (RoS), and warhammers. They are also proficient in light and medium armor (but not shields).

Auspicious Marking (Ex): You gain the Auspicious Marking feat (RoS, pg 136) as a bonus feat.

Fierce Competitor (Ex): Goliaths are always competing, and a goliath paragon wins more competitions than not. When making an opposed skill check (for example most bluff, spot, or move silently checks) you gain a +2 on the roll. This does not apply to opposed ability checks (i.e. trip, or initiative) only on opposed skill checs.

Mountain Warrior (Ex): You gain the Mountain Warrior (RoS, pg 142) as a bonus feat even if you do not fulfill the prerequisites. It's a junk feat which gives you a circumstantial +1 to hit OR damage if you already have terrain advantage and a circumstantial +1 to AC if you have disadvantage, even thrown together with Auspicious Marking they're pretty worthless.

Assault Leap (Ex): Goliaths grow up leaping from cliff-face to cliff the other side of a ravine and other such leaps where they cannot get a good run. A goliath paragon is adept in these sudden standing leaps, moving in a single sudden burst. Beginning at 2nd level a goliath paragon may make a Jump check and leap ½ the distance of a normal long jump as a swift action, gaining a bonus to AC against attacks made against them during this movement equal to ½ their ranks in Jump. This is tiring, however; a goliath paragon suffers nonlethal damage when they use this ability equal to the number of times they’ve used it since they last had at least 1 full hour of rest, and if a goliath paragon uses it twice in 1 minute they become fatigued. A goliath paragon that is fatigued may not use this ability.

Assault Rush (Ex): Goliaths are used to battles on mountain slopes, moving up and down them in fights with relative ease. Beginning at 2nd level a goliath paragon may charge even if their speed is reduced for moving uphill (but not for other reasons such as other types of difficult terrain), this does not allow a goliath paragon to charge when their speed is slowed due to flying upwards.

Thickened Hide (Ex): Goliath skin is thicker and tougher than most humanoids, and that of a goliath paragon is almost the same as their feral cousins (and that of a feral gargan goliath paragon can be used to make hide armor). Beginning at 2nd level a goliath paragon gains a +2 natural armor bonus to AC or their existing natural armor increases by +2.

Grand as the Mountain (Ex): A goliath paragon is not necessarily larger than other goliaths, but it's hard to believe that looking at them as they learn to make the most of their size. Beginning at 3rd level a goliath paragon may choose to take up space as normal for their size or as a creature 1 size category larger, and may change as a free action once per turn. If a goliath paragon is taking up space as a creature 1 size larger creatures may pass through their square (or not) as if the goliath was one size category larger. For all purposes other than space a goliath paragon is always treated as both their size and one size category larger in whatever ways are most favorable; for example they can wield medium sized two-handed weapons as one-handed weapons at no penalty, they have reach as a tall large creature (10 ft) but no size penalty to attack and AC, and so forth. A goliath paragon's natural weapons deal damage as if they were one size category larger, they may count as large size for the purposes of prerequisites, and so forth. This ability supersedes Powerful Build, but if a Goliath Paragon would lose Powerful Build for some reason (for example wild shape or polymorph, or Bestow Curse) they instead lose this ability and apply the advantages of Powerful Build replacing all instances of Large with the size one category above their current size. The benefits of this ability stack with the effects of powers, abilities, and spells that change the subject’s size category, but not with Powerful Build. A Goliath Barbarian's Mountain Rage ability interacts in a special manner with this ability, just as it does not stack with Powerful Build despite Powerful Build specifying it stacks with size changing effects if a Goliath Paragon uses Mountain Rage they become fully one size category larger with the benefits of Powerful Build added on top of it, but lose the benefits of this ability (similar to if they used polymorph and had lost Powerful Build).

Markings of the Hero (Ex): A goliath paragon's skin markings signify them as something truly special, shifting to present a myriad array of skills and talents. Beginning at 3rd level twice per day you can roll two d20s when making any d20 roll and use either of the two results. In addition if you have a feat with Auspicious Marking as a prerequisite and a limited number of used per day you gain 2 additional uses of that feat. This applies once for each such feat you possess (if you possess multiple) and is applied to ones you gain after this ability.

Spirit-Seeker's Eyes (Su): A goliath is in tune with the world of spirits, their pantheistic views and nature worship bringing them closer to these entities than more deity focused races. This closeness allows goliath paragons to catch glimpses of the world of spirits which men might never know. Beginning at 3rd level a goliath paragon can see ethereal creatures and invisible spirits (incorporeal creatures, fey, elementals, spirit subtype creatures, spirit folk and telthors, creatures in astral form, some creatures created by spells), even those invisible with the Superior Invisibility spell. They can distinguish such creatures from normally visible creatures, and discern whether they are ethereal or merely invisible. In addition they can see invisible non-spirits but not nearly as clearly. To do so they must make a Spot check against the creature's Hide check and the creature gains a +10 bonus on this Hide check due to invisibility (but any penalties that would apply such as a -20 for sniping, or penalties for moving their full speed apply) and even then the creature is considered to have concealment.

Does "Grand as the Mountain" stack with size increasing spells and effects(like Enlarge Person) and does it grant Reach? Or is it just for spacing for things like flanking and stopping an opponent passing.

    Your friendly neighbourhood sniperman.
    My controversial opinions:
    • I like blue souls.
    • Alignment isn't terrible.

My Homebrew: Feng Shui; Magic in Zones, Plus others I'm not particularly proud of rn.

It stacks (hence outside of the specific examples the use of 'your size and one larger' instead of 'medium and large' otherwise it'd be a nerf on Powerful Build though since powerful build amends that it stacks at the end I should. As for reach it's one of the specified examples of things you gain (whether you choose to go with 5-ft or 10-ft space). Will go add the stacking clarification.

Edit: Adding the stacking clarification made me realize that Goliath Barbarian substitution levels thought Powerful Build didn't stack with size changes, or specified in it that it didn't... the intent seems to be that it's cranking Powerful Build up and therefore supersedes powerful build where Enlarge Person would not but the wording sucks. So added a bit about Mountain Rage so that mountain rage makes you Large with Powerful Build (instead of Large-Huge like Enlarge Person) to keep it functioning comparably to how it already functioned.

Two quick things I noticed -

    1. They have a +3 BAB at level 2.
    2. Assault Rush is listed at 2nd level on the table, but 3rd level in the text..

I may actually take some time to look at the abilities themselves later, but I'm kinda out of it right now.

The first one of those typos I blame on my keyboard because it stuck like 6 times while swapping the numbers in the table.

The second I blame on... I have no idea (table was right it's supposed to be 2nd).

Seems like you nailed this one.
I might cook something into my overhaul project from this some day, if it's ok by you.
