Default My God Knows What Power Is... [Base Class]

    Priest of the Weave
What is the Weave? Whom governs it? And more importantly, who truly controls the flow of magic? Nobody knows the answer to the latter two, but there are deities that are slowly exerting more control over the multiplanes through the Weaves. This has led to the rise of those whom champion the cause of the Weave, and have devoted themselves to the service of one of these deities. The Gods have recognized their service, and have gifted them with the power to cast spells in their name.

Spellcasting: A Priest of the Weave prepares spells the same way a Cleric does, by communing with their God and requisitioning the spells they would like for the day. Charisma determines spells per day, Intelligence applies to DC. They do not get bonus spells per day from a high Charisma or Intelligence score; the spells per day above are fixed. Channeling magic in this way, to reach through the Weave to their deity, is exceptionally draining, and as such, the Priest of the Weave must spend 8 hours sleeping. If the Priest's race does not sleep, they still must spend 8 hours in a restful state before they may prepare spells again. Spellcasting is considered Arcane and thus subject to arcane spell failure.

Spells Known: A Priest of the Weave potentially knows every spell on the Sorcerer/Wizard list. However, they have to petition their God in order to prepare their spells.

    Study of the Weave:
At first level, a Priest of the Weave may select one element (from the Wu Jen's list) to be associated with. They may never cast spells directly opposed to this element, but they gain an extra spell slot with which to prepare spells, but it must be from that element. (i.e., if Wood is selected, the Priest may not cast any spells of the Metal element and vice versa).

    Wands and Scrolls:
A Priest of the Weave shuns what they consider a "weakness," which is storing spells and using them from scrolls and wands. They prefer to rely on the strength of their God, and their Gods respect that. If a Priest of the Weave ever uses a wand or scroll, they lose all class abilities and spells known for 24 hours, at which point they may petition their God again for more spells, after succeeding a succesful Diplomacy check (DC 10 + (Class Levelx2)).

    Petition the Gods:
Starting at 5th level, a Priest of the Weave may petition their God for extra spells. By spending five minutes in quiet contemplation to commune with their gods, they may switch out a spell they know for another from their God's repertoire. The spell removed and the spell prepared must be of the same level.

They may do this a number of times per day equal to the highest level of spell they can cast. Each spell level of the spell they swap out counts as one "use". Therefore, a Priest of the Weave that can cast 9th level spells may swap out 9 level 1 spells, 2 level 2 spells and five level 1 spells, 3 level 3 spells, 2 level 4 spells and one level 1 spell, 1 level 5 spell and 1 level 4 spell, or any combination thereof, as long as the total spell levels do not exceed their highest level spell level, which in this case is 9.

Edit: Changed class skills, added a few restrictions, spells per day will be lowered in a few hours.

Now if you don't mind, I am somewhat preoccupied telling the laws of physics to shut up and sit down.
I cast irresistable phantasmal killer as a 4th level spell. No save, just die.

At first glance it looks like a buffed up wizard specialist.

(Only that he uses cha to gain spells, and already has a bonus spell for every level factured in)

The question that comes to mind, does he cast those spells as arcane or divine?
(And if divine, why not using WIS as attribute like all other worshippers do)

if he would be a divine caster with the wizards spell list, that could be an interesting option.

He is slightly more powerfull, but can't get his hands on as many fitting items.
(wands and scrolls with his spells tend to be arcane)

I will agree that Cha casting is out of place here. That's normally left to spontaneous casters, this class has to prepare spells, which means it's either Int (for arcane) or Wis (for divine).

    He's a Wu Jen/Shugenja/Wizard/Cleric!

Need to know Arcane/Divine spellcasting, as was said. I would reccomend Divine, as it's fitting with the requirements (he seems to get spells from gods, too).

Only problem is, if he's divine, he's a wizard in Full Plate (have to take the right proficiencys, of course). Super Wizard may be a fitting title.

Oh, and he needs way more class skills, or 2+Int skll points. As is, he's maxed for most class skills easily (all the importants ones plus some crafts.)

As is, I think his spell selection, amount of spells, and preparation makes him overpowered.
If there's a rule, there's someone out there trying to figure out how to get around it just to piss off his DM.

Give it arcane power, and spontaneous casting. Leave the spell swapping, but make it only for a temporary duration, say 4-24 hours. So a PotW, can exchange his Wish for Time Stop, but only four hours, after which he can't cast Wish until after he's had eight hours of rest.

The Weave? A wizard-based class? Sounds like somebody played Loom recently. Although these really aren't anything like the Weavers.
The road goes ever on and on,
Down from the door where it began,
Now far ahead the road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can--
    Pursuing it with eager feet,
Meeting those who travel on the way,
Where many paths and errands meet,
And whither then, I cannot say.

Actually, it's drawn from the FR "Weave" that seperates raw magic from destroying the world, which is held in place by Mystra (unless something's changed drastically in the FR world which I am unaware of). The name is just flavor, which should be changed to fit the campaign setting.

To answer questions (will be editing):

The casting is Arcane, but a Priest of the Weave would spurn Wands and Scrolls (preferring to wield the magic from their Gods directly - it's fluff, but it prohibits a few breakable things).

CHA + INT casting: Technically, their petitioning the Gods for their spells is more like bargaining, hence the Charisma. Intellect is for actually understanding the spells without study.

Also, they technically don't prepare spells; that is, they don't have spellbooks. They are gifted Arcane power from those Gods whom hold some amount of sway over magic (that is, have it in their portfolio) and channel the spells like a Cleric, but cast them (technically) as a Sorcerer, with the option to change their spells known after 8 hours of rest.

Yes. It's overpowered. Considering dropping their spells/day to Wizard, subtract two per level and add a domain-esque spell, should bring it _somewhat_ into balance.
