It is too fast for me," she murmurs offering Lillian a blessing for when they engage the mirrored foe. Aside from that she takes a careful breath, a hand picking at the rents in her cloths from daggers and trident.

R10T19: Brother Jaume takes stock of the room he's in ... the first person to have done so. This room is furnished with a large table, a few comfortable chairs, and a standing mirror. The room appears reasonably clean compared to the rest of the fort. A fireplace sits cold in the corner, and a pile of books and folios is spread across the table.

Up the stairs from the archives (area D10), this room provides a comfortable place to read. The chairs are well stuffed and the large table allows someone to spread out numerous documents and books for research. The stack of books on the table shows that someone was doing exactly that before the fort was compromised. The eastern door to this room opens onto the fort’s battlements (area D13).

R10T12: Kris is bored, and does a quick search of the spot she is in (green 'X' denotes searched square) - checking furniture, walls, and floor - but doesn't find anything of interest.

R10T9: "Vessex, kill her!" says an alarmed Lillian, realizing that she is now in a bad spot compared to the enemy. Figuring that the enemy is enjoying some type of magic to be dominating the battle this time, she casts a spell. Winter sees powerful arcane magic wash over the Mirror-Lady with no effect. "Either she has no magic on her, or my dispel attempt wasn't powerful enough to get rid of anything."

R10T8.5: Vessex buzzes forth as directed. It fails to avoid getting a painful poke in the thorax for 15 + staggered ... painful enough Vessex misses its sting.

R10T8: Mirror-Lady (FH1) stabs Vessex for 9, and as the wasp falls, the Mirror-Lady's continued attacks completely open up Vessex. First, Lillian lost her sister at this place; and now her familiar as well. The Mirror-Lady steps down a few stairs, taunting Lillian with her swords.

R10T7: Ms. Wrentz hears the battle down the stairs, sighs, and is gone from sight as she heads south along the roof.

R10T6: St. Dorn's voice is heard shouting from below, "Come down! I am going to stay at the door down here to block her escape!"

R10T19: Brother Jaume moves to the mirror and smashes it with a meaty fist. He grunts with satisfaction before calling out, “Retreat up the stairs and use ranged attacks instead!”

R10T12: Kris gives a check of the other side of the couch, wall, and floor.

R10T9: Lillian takes another extract and calls out, "Yeah, no. Most of us aren't really primed for that; the stairs are too crowded; and we want to close her in. She self-heals, so letting her scamper off and heal doesn't help. Come down so we can pin her with Dorn at the door."

She then steps farther down the stairs while drawing her rapier and stepping right up to the foe.

R10T8-6: Winter, you see the Mirror Lady fake out Lillian and then stab her in the left thigh for 13. St. Dorn's voice is heard calling on Torag to help him smite this second evil creature this day. Winter sees St. Dorn's hammer strike the Mirror Lady in the left shoulder from below for 16.

R11T19: Brother Jaume moves down the stairs as far as he can and shouts, “The King in Yellow will no longer hold sway in this place!” The enraged clonk casts a spell and a fist sized chunk of rock is created and flies at his enemy, but she uses a sweeping "X" pattern to shatter the rock before it ever gets close to her.

R11T12: Kris tries to fly past Brother Jaume, but the stairwell at that point is too cramped to pass (as stated by the GM, oh, so many times already). Still, she does see the Mirror-Lady at the lower landing before a smaller set of stairs turns to the south into the room below. Unfortunately, with everything in front of her, it is too distracting and she misses.

R11T9: Despite seeing a split-second into the future, the mirror-lady blocks Lillian's attack.

R11T8: The mirror-lady (FH1), despite an enspelled killer above her, focuses on the creature below and trips St. Dorn before then failing to launch directly past him, and instead adjusting to leap over the railing's corner. As she does so, Lillian stabs the mirror-lady in the right hand for 4 as St. Dorn swings wildly. She then rushes south out of the door of the room.

R11T7: The loud clack of a hand crossbow firing is heard with a loud cry of pain.

R11T6: St. Dorn stands, steps over to the Mirror-Lady and Winter sees him crack her in the leg with his hammer, dropping her.

R1T7: Brother Jaume takes a quick beat to analyze his opponent, then advises, “There is an aquatic creature here with claws. He is backed by another fish-man. Do what I do: hit and move!”

The burly friar strikes the creature in front, hitting it in the center of mass for 15, and its entire form wiggles and shakes and Brother Jaume has icky gray foam on his hand even as he sees the punch shape of his fist slowly begin filling in with the unsettling, semi-liquid nature of the lead foe. Brother Jaume then turns to go downstairs, ducking an AOO from the creature, and makes it the bottom of the stairs behind St. Dorn.

R1T6: Ms. Wrentz hunkers down where she is, looking for a surprise shot should a foe come out.

R1T5: Lillian drops her whip as she moves up the stairs and draws her rapier, and then stabs. "Got a tiny chunk of it," she says. "It's a doppeldrek - a shapechanging ooze. You can't stun it, take advantage of weak spots you see, or even create your own weak spots. It is mindless, but controlled by the fish-man somehow."

R3T18: With no more reliable ranged spells, Kris flies somewhat closer, shooting acid at the fish-man. As the burst acid looks like it's going to make dead center on Kris' target, the fish-man does ... something ... that seems to drain him a little, but whatever it was has no effect as he still gets hit in the chest for 4 acid. Kris notices there is a sort of funk or mist surrounding the fish-man now. Nothing that conceals his features, not that thick, but something that was barely noticeable before is not a little more noticeable.

R3T14: Brother Jaume stops delaying and grasps his holy symbol of Erastil in a meaty fist as he prays and gains 13 healing.

R3T11: Winter looks up at the at the narrow stairs, feeling frustrated by the cramped conditions. "Is there space to advance and surround them?" she asks, before following up with an impassioned, "In the name of the Lady of Graves! Strike down those who oppose you and send them to an early invitation with the Lady."

R3T6: Ms. Wrentz stays where she is, ready to shoot.

R3T5: "No!" calls down Lillian over Winter's now continuous performance - which started as an oratical plea before turning into a dramatic monologue often put to opera in Karcau. "The doppeldrek controls the doorway. There are windows, for what good that does folks."

Using the holy insight granted by the saint, Lillian makes another careful thrust against her quarry for 3.

R4T11: Winter looks up the stairs and the narrow entrance, "Accursed beasts... begone from these doors and let us enter" she calls out before continuing "In the lady of Bones' name your time has come and prepare to embrace your fate." Winter calls out as she continues her exhortations to help her allies.

R4T6: Ms. Wrentz does subtle movements like a cat that wiggles its bum before pouncing.

R4T5: Lillian hisses at Brother Jaume, wanting to disobey the fat friar who would take away her vengeance, but finally thinks the better of it. She slams her rapier into the doppeldrek as hard as she can as powered by St. Dorn's blessing for 11 and then darts downstairs as the doppeldrek strikes at her all too late. "If you had given me another three passes, I wouldn't be wasting resources, you jerk," she says to Brother Jaume as he launches up the stairs.

R5T18: Flying to line up again with the door, Kris takes out a stone, but finds that alchemists - in their creation of such helpful objects - don't actually design their alchemical "weapons" with the same ease of form as classical weapons. The only thing that helps her is not the thunderstone but her own perfect flight. She lobs the thunderstone through the doorway against the far inside wall of the donjon and a loud report erupts in the hopes of deafening both creatures.

R5T16: The doppeldrek's foamy body continues to reconnect (FH2). With one pseudo-hand it slaps Brother Jaume's right wrist for 5, though he blocks the other.

R5T15: St. Dorn just gives Brother Jaume the same ability he was giving Lillian, and Brother Jaume feels a wash of benevolence and righteousness.

R6T11: Winter, seeing Jaume stepping into the room cheers them on, "Well done, Brother Jaume! Feel the power of the Gods in your veins!" She continues seeking to inspire the others with dramatic monologue in the meantime.

R7T19: In heavily accented Taldane, the fish-man burbles. "At last, you have come to me!"

A sheen of blackish green effuses out of some bodily openings under his scales to coat not only his claws, but drips from his teeth as well. Spattering on the carpet, this unwholesome fluid sizzles and pops as it eats through a bit of the carpet and wood. He darts low to bite Brother Jaume in the side of his rotund belly for 16 + 6 acid. Brother Jaume ignores the initial sharp pain from some semi-anesthetizing effect, but it was still a brutal bite. A claw rakes across Brother Jaume's chest for another 16 + 6 acid, and down goes the mighty friar. With two slashes in, the fish-man commits to the last to rake the back of Brother Jaume's arms and back for 13 + 5 acid.

R7T18: Brother Jaume is down, and you don't know his condition. It turns out that fish-man was hiding two lights under the bushel ...the ability to speak the lingua fraca, and being far more deadly in melee than expected after his tossing around globs of acid.

Lillian knows the score, though, and she calls out to the group, "He killed Jaume!"

R7T18: Rapier in hand, Kris flies in, using her superior agility to try to take the fish-man down. Her rapier gets past his chain shirt, but not his thick, fishy scales. "You will pay for this!"

"I'm ulat-kini, wench!" he responds with a disturbing, goggle-eyed leer.

R7T15: St. Dorn makes a prayer in dwarven, not spell-speech, then moves up past Lillian and inside to stand protectively over Brother Jaume's body. "Lillian, get everyone to get Brother Jaume's body out of the way."

"Listen, old man--"

"NOW!"

R7T13: Lillian drops her rapier and pushes pulls Brother Jaume's body into the spot where she still stands. She is sweaty from the extreme effort of dragging so large a man a mere five feet.

She has a sense of what might come next and looks down at Winter, "No more room yet inside, Winter, sorry. Take the friar from me, would you? Dorn is cranky."
