To be fair, I don't think Pellan's ever said anything about their gender. And Cat did mention that Pellan is a girl's name, so wouldn't be too shocked if Pellan actually turns out to be a girl and nobody guessed because they didn't have enough ranks in Heal.

My guess was that this person is treating Pellan as neither male nor female but third/other: undead abomination. Anti-undead bigotry (if that's the right word) plus bureaucratic correctness.

Eh, I think if it was the "undead abomination” thing again the captain would just use it, like Vis did.
Sure, Smurf-face was antagonizing Cat and company- not that he's entirely wrong about her choice in that regard -but it still feels like a odd thing to be polite about.

Not knowing whether P is a boy skeleton or a girl skeleton* seems more likely I think.

*And now I'm remembering that absolutely glorious exchange in Kingdom of the Wicked about Skulduggery's skin-condition and naked skeletons.
