I see what you mean-- Snowlady's got a branded forehead too. I guess she must be a former criminal too. Though the nature of her crime must be different because her mark is different than Ardelie's and she evidently still has her tongue.

The tongue was to keep her from telling the truth. I doubt it is a normal part of the judicial process.

The holidays have left me little time to work comfortably, so no comic this week.

Some art to fill the transition:

I love it. Makes the world more alien.

Also, Pellan wearing what's basically insect wool is kinda hillarious.

    I think it's actually stone - they're called slateshells.

Weight aside, stone armor would probably be way harder to repair than metal.

I wonder what people actually do with slateshell?

Mix it with other material to imbue it with the slateshell's anti-magic properties?

    Build prisons for mages?

Magic resistance alone makes it pretty useful as a material.

Would powdered slateshell mixed with steel(or other metals) still retain its protective qualities?

Depends a lot on how magic works in this setting - though not being able to just blast through the walls is probably a start.

The font changed about 7 comics ago. I haven't really been noticing it up until now, but on this latest set something about the lower-case "T"s really threw me off. I kept thinking all the characters were drunk and slurring their words.
