Yeah, this lore drop really exposes how utterly alien the Stormfallen are. Even the most precocious human toddlers are, well, toddlers. Those of First Falling grow up extraordinarily quickly, but they also have to take in an inhuman amount of knowledge. They also seem to have psychic abilities, as implied in #211. If Mel is aware of everything her inferiors are doing, that means that she knows what the party is taking about. The second panel of #213 has a servant eye the group. Through her, Mel might be doing so, too.

Cat mentions how ridiculously bright these Stormfallen are. It's possible that the Glass Eye (#16) was built by one of First Falling, and then no one had the sheer intelligence and interest to continue to develop them. Therefore, there exists only one telescope in this world. This suggests that there are other one-off inventions around the world, built by Stormfallen that then burnt out.

...And now I'm wondering if any of the Stormfallen are seeking to extend their lifespans. And how far some of them would go.

Maybe that's who the special handcuffs are for!

I'm more intrigued about their emotional intelligence and their lived experience. Three years is an extremely short times to learn how to adult. Kind of puts our last antagonist of First Falling in a different light.

Are you talking about Vis? He was of second falling, right? I thought only Mel was of first.

In any case, I think you and I are intrigued by the same things! Cat and Vis are young and childish and seem to lack serious emotional control and wisdom—just like humans. Mel is, like, three years old and seems to have a lot of control over herself and over others. If there's really such a divide between the first rankers and the others, I imagine that Mel wouldn't be throwing tantrums like Vis when things don't go her way. And indeed, her first flashback appearance showed her disturbingly calm.
