Specialist Wizard Base Classes
ok so complete mage brought us the war mage, i would consider this a very specialized invoker. Complete Horror brought us the Dead Necromancer which did the same for necromancy. I would also argue that the beguiler is a combo illusionist/enchanter. i was just wondering if anyone had home brewed or seen any of the other school specialists done into base classes. I have ideas for the diviner and conjurer, but the transmuter and abjurer i think would be very difficult to pull off. Anyways, just curious if anyone had seen anything like the 3 classes i mentioned

Re: Specialist Wizard Base Classes
Well, the Warmage is covers some of the Conjuration spells, just not the Summoning ones. It does handle the damage ones, though.
A Divining Sorcerer wouldn't be all that fun to play.. There's not all that many times with Knowledge inflicts harm in the immediate, which is encountered alot in D&D.
Abjuration'd be total defense, really. It's be full support.
Same thing with Transmutation. It holds a few spells you could use to your advantage, but it'd be mostly support.
Problem is, the class kinda needs to be able to stand on their own. The above ideas are kinda all Support, so they don't really work. Yeah, you could play them, but you're almost forced into support, which can cause problems, especially if you want to take some glory sometimes. If there's a rule, there's someone out there trying to figure out how to get around it just to piss off his DM.
Spoiler- The Jack-signal. Thanks Jokes!

Re: Specialist Wizard Base Classes
Personally I think abjuration is the best school to specialize in, but you are kind of limited.
An uberabjurer would probably only be worthwhile if you were in a mage heavy game, because they are essentially anti spellcasting batteries. Think a few slots dedicated to the various dispel magics and maybe improved counterspelling as a bonus feat somewhere along the line.
I think it'd be fun, but like I said, tanking other spellcasters would essentially be your thing and not a whole lot else.
Unless you like spending all day buffing your party members and making them a whole lot sweeter than you while you hang back and lob the few assault spells that you have.
