    Right.

Divine spellcaster is always a divine spellcaster, never a Arcane Spellcaster.

It's BoVD: were you expecting good wording?

They even forgot that there are evil deities, and that Violet Rain would be perfect for stopping the designs of Nerull or Hextor.

Evil Weather automatically disqualify to Alternative Source Spell or South Magician feat while in effect.

Wouldn't work. you're an arcane caster, but also a divine caster.

'divine spellcasters have no access to spells'. You're a divine spellcaster. Ergo: no spells. The text makes no distinction between divine and arcane spells, it just says 'no spells'.

Maybe getting a spel as a (su) ability would work? Dweomerkeeper is out though, as it requires a spell to fuel the (su) casting.

    Wow: ninja'd BAD.

No, that's not what it could possibly mean.

Divine spellcasters must remain divine spellcasters, else they would become immune to the effect. You'd get a quantum superposition of spellcaster | non-spellcaster, and the ability to cast spells would be indeterminate.

That's clearly not what the rule could do, else it would be worthless.

Therefore, what the rule does is exactly what it says: if you are a divine spellcaster, you lose all access to spells. You do not stop being a divine spellcaster.

You has no acess to spells. So, you also cant use Supernatural Spell.

Basically. Arm's length, really. I think the only thing I'd personally ever use from it are the Kythons, but a lot of what a player would want out of it is broken (Ur-Priest, sacrifice rules, and people keep trying to get Disciple of Dispater to stack with keen weapons).

    - Alternate rules like Vile damage
    - Spells like Mindrape and Vile Spear
    - Feats like Violate Spell and Dark Speech
    - Corrupt Spells (e.g. Lahm's Finger Darts)
    - Liquid Pain
    - A bunch of PrCs which I re-wrote to be decent
    - Nipple Clamps of Exquisite Pain

... so really quite a lot of the book, just nowhere near all of the book, and certainly not without careful examination of each included piece.

I'd like to emphasize again that Evil Weather[Violet Rain] is a personal spell, so "don't cast it on yourself" is the baseline avoidance technique. The only way I know to increase range from personal is via Spellguard 4 + Magic of the Land + a spontaneous reach enhancement to touch spells.

Everything else is speculation about the use of the spell under a house rule where range is increased to match the area.
    ExFighter: Immunity to Wizard
Stutter Caster: Eliminate all spell defenses (SR, Save, AC).
The Clockwork Wizard: All spells in no time.
    Piercing Immunities: Uncounterable Counters.
Planar Soldiers of Mystra: Invincibility from planar traits.
A Core Only Fighter 20 that kills things

It might be thematically nice. But is it balanced? There must be a reason they didnt remake it for 3.5 right? I am always kind of wary of 3.0 material, there is a reason they updated the system right?

Do we have a quote for that? Because i think that the 3.5 DMG says that 3.0 material may need minor tweaks. That puts interpretation of all 3.0 material in the DMs hands.

They forget that constantly, in many rulebooks.

They also often forget that nature is neutral.

So basically the problem here is that there is apparently no way to protect from Violet Rain except for being someplace else or not a Divine spellcaster.

but not because violet rain is so good, mostly because the rules concerning it are very badly written.

My house rule for Violet Rain is:

"Within the area, prayers do not reach the gods. Divine casters cannot prepare new spells, unless the divine caster worships an Arch-Fiend."

You can not use this house rule ... There is already a similar supernatural abilitie. Just use Shapechange to Zargon (Elder Evil pg 149) to access Divine Enervation.

Divine Enervation (Su) All divine spellcasters lose the ability
To regain spells as long as they remain within 100 miles
Thousands of Zargon. This interdiction does not interfere
    With spellcasting.

    Malefic Properties
Antimagic Field dont protect against it. The Enemie use Greater Spell Resistence (39 Natural SR +Caster Level)

You can create a combo with Divine Enervation + Violet Rain.

If he wants to create house rule that only exists monks, he can. LOL. But, there is a similar supernatural effect, so it is not necessary to house rule Violet Rain.

You can't Shapechange into a unique creature. It would be quite difficult to argue that any of the Elder Evils are anything but unique creatures. (Not that I don't expect somebody to try, somehow.)
